Benning, GA, 1985 TEACHING COURSES TAUGHT US 1100, University Seminar, 2017-current University Seminar is a course designed to help meet transitional needs of new Texas State University students. The course encourages reflection upon the value and nature of a university education, as well as helping students to develop strategies for life-long learning. Course content includes class discussion, student participation, and involvement in the university community. CSS 1201, College Success Seminar, The College Success Seminar provides students with techniques, resources, and information necessary to improve their success in college. The seminar is designed to increase students persistence and success in college by providing them with the academic, personal, and life management tools needed to function effectively within an academic setting. NCB 0700, Integrated Reading & Writing, This course offers students an alternative to traditional developmental classes through the Non- Course Based Program in the areas of reading and writing. This fundamental class teaches life and academic skills through individualized instruction in a small group setting. The course helps to refine basic skills in preparation for college level courses. EDP 1350, Effective Learning, The purpose of EDP 1350, Effective Learning, is to enable students to develop effective academic behaviors for college success. The course included a balance between theoretical underpinnings and the experiential application of learning strategies. The focus of the course is on (a) research and theory in the psychology of learning, cognition, and motivation; (b) factors that influence learning; and (c) application of learning strategies. Command Sergeant Major Course, The Command Sergeant Majors Course prepares selected leaders for the executive level of leadership within a battalion. The curriculum prepares the student for leading and managing the training of several hundred soldiers; growing and developing subordinate leaders; proving proper
4 and practical advice to the commander and staff officers; providing developmental counseling and instilling the heritage and traditions of our Nation and the United States Army. Basic Combat Training Course, Basic training is a training course that transforms civilians into soldiers. Over the course of eight weeks, Army recruits learn about the seven-core Army values, how to work together as a team, and what it takes to succeed as a soldier in the U.S. Army. Individuals undergo rigorous physical training to prepare their bodies and their minds for the eventual physical and mental strain of combat. Basic Training is designed to be highly intense and challenging. The challenge comes as much from the difficulty of physical training as it does from the required quick psychological adjustment to an unfamiliar way of life. Pre-Ranger Course, The Pre-Ranger Course consists of 14 days of arduous training. The first week is designed to mirror the first week of Ranger School. The second week is designed to coach, teach, and mentor students during the patrol phase of the course. The purpose of the course is to prepare soldiers to succeed at the US Army Ranger School. Pre-Ranger accomplishes this by assessing the soldiers' physical and mental capabilities, training the soldiers on Troop Leading Procedures, Combat Orders and Reconnaissance/Combat patrols to the same standards conducted at the US Army Ranger School.
