We will be selling Buddy Poppies 10th and 11th November and as always need volunteers. Buddy Poppy has served to remind the American people of our veteran s brave and dedicated service to our great nation. The Buddy Poppy campaign allows our post to receive donations for our Veterans Relief Fund which is used solely to provide direct assistance to local area veterans and their families in times of need. 2 Our Post held a Flag Retirement Ceremony October 8th. A popular way to retire a worn-out American Flag is by burning it. A national flag that is worn beyond repair may be burned in a fire. The ceremony should be conducted with dignity and respect and the flag burned completely to ashes. The 137 Retired Flags were dedicated to deceased veterans. Thanks to all who participated in this moving event. Spread the word, Our Post will be holding an American Red Cross Blood Drive November 11th A Hall 10am - 2 pm Open to the public. There will be a Veterans Day Service at Quantico Cemetery 1100 hrs November 11th for all those who wish to attend. Mark your calendars for Marine Corps Birthday November 17th 1800 hrs. 3 VFW AUXILIARY Greetings Auxiliary Members, It feels that Fall has passed and Winter looms upon us with this onset of cold weather. Just a few reminders of upcoming events. Children s Halloween Party, October 27th from 1-3pm. We still are in need of volunteers from 11am - 4 pm, to assist with set-up, baked goods, and assistance during the party. 4 MILITARY ORDER OF THE PURPLE HEART Patriots: Our short meeting started at the Marine Museum greeting veterans from World War II, Korea and Vietnam on the Honor Bus at We moved back to the Post for a short meeting where we discussed our upcoming mid year State meeting. We will meet at the VFW on Saturday, November 3rd at 0830 and carpool to Stafford to hook up with our Patriots in the south to carpool on to Richmond for the meeting. We will return to the Post at approximately On Veterans Day, we will participate in services at Quantico VA Cemetery that begins at 1100 and back to the Post after services for the Open House at the Post. A reminder that the USMC Birthday Ball is on the 17th at 1830 in A & B Hall at the Post. There is a great dinner provided by the Post and a band will be playing in the canteen after dinner. There are no tickets needed, we take donations at the door. All are invited. The Marine Birthday Ball committee will be conducting a fundraiser Guppy Tournament at the Post on the 10th at Please come out and play and who knows, you might win some money. Also, those prettier than a speckled pup Christmas Trees arrive on the 24th and help is needed to unload the truck that morning and selling them later. We expect the truck to arrive at 0900 but call the Post before coming to get an updated time for the truck arrival. Our next Chapter Meeting is on Saturday, November 17th. We need to continue to be proactive in helping our wounded Veterans and their families!! Our Chapter s mission is to serve our combat wounded veterans and their families. November 22nd Thanksgiving Day Traditional turkey meal served and brunch starting at 10 am and going on till 2 pm. Cost $16.95 adults and $9.95 children. NEW YEARS EVE TICKETS ON SALE NOW Once again we will have the Nite Life band Erin and Doreen cooking up extra surprise s for the meal and understand the decorations will be something special. Cost this year for individual tickets same as last year $75.00 per person. Table of 10 will cost $ if purchased by the 25th of November. Get them early remember last year we had to turn people away who waited until December to call. Just a heads up I have booked the HUB CAPS for May 11th. Been 3 years since we had them here. Jeannie from the Hub Caps worked out a great price for us and because this is there 50th Anniversary she wanted us to be part of it. More info the closer we get to the date. 6 HONOR BOUND VFW, HonorBound Foundation Team Up to Help More Veterans Grant will help provide new laptops and tablets to VFW service officers KANSAS CITY, Mo. (October 2, 2018) HonorBound Foundation has awarded the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the U.S. a $55,263 grant to help offset a larger initiative that will begin equipping VFW Service Officers with new laptops and tablets so that they can more efficiently and effectively help more veterans to file disability claims with the Department of Veterans Affairs. The VFW has nearly 2,000 VA-accredited service officers across America and abroad. In 2017, more than a half-million veterans represented by the VFW received $7.7 billion in benefits from the VA, to include $1.2 billion in new benefit awards. VFW Service Officers are stationed at every VA Regional Office and on two dozen military installations to help transitioning service members to complete and file their claims, but despite being seemingly everywhere, there are still veterans residing elsewhere who are in need of the professional - and free - services the VFW provides to all eligible veterans, regardless of whether they are VFW members or not. And that s where reliable Internet connectivity is the key, not just because VA is building a paperless claims process, but because being able to effectively serve veterans where they reside requires instant Internet access. The HonorBound Foundation grant will go far to jumpstarting the larger $300,000 VFW initiative, which is ensure all service officers have the ability to provide the same service to all veterans anytime, anywhere. The key player in all of this has been the veteran service officer, said HonorBound Foundation Executive Director Phil Kraft. Having served as a VFW Post commander for 15 years, and in various VFW District and National offices and appointments, it seemed a logical match to find a way to simplify the job of the veteran service officer, as well as to thank them for their tireless efforts. The VFW is in business to help as many veterans and their families as possible, and part of our success relies on technology, said VFW National Commander B.J. Lawrence. We re thankful for the HonorBound Foundation s generosity, which will help ensure our professional advocates can process more VA claims wherever and whenever needed.
