2 Sudan is the biggest country in Africa. It is 2,505,800 sq km. Sudan has boarders with 9 countries (7,687 km), There are more than 10 rivers in the Sudan including the Nile (the longest river in the world). In the east of this country Gedaref digital city organization Gedaref digital city organization (GDCO) is a nongovernmental and nonprofit organization in Gedaref Sudan it is part of the Telecentre movement where ICT is used for community development. (GDCO) was established in partnership with the Digital City of Eindhoven (DSE) in Netherlands, DSE donated 750 computers and more than ten projects were established using ICT for community development and utilizing the public private partnership (PPT) and of these projects are the e-agriculture, Sudan national Telecentre academy (SuNTA), e-education and include the excluded

6 Sudan national Telecentre academy SuNTA In June 2008,, GDCO hosted the 5th east African Telecentre leaders forum in partnership with Ugabytes and its partners GDCO paid all the local costs (hotels,,, food,,, local transport,, laundry,,, mobile Sim cards) 27 international participants from 17 countries attended the forum. On the 11th June Sudan national Telecentre academy (SuNTA) was declared as the first national Telecentre academy in Africa and the Middle East and it is the 13th in the world. In august 2008 and at the Telecentre forum in e-india 2008 the vice chancellor of Indaira Gandhi national Open University (IGNOU), telecentre.org, Gedaref state minister of education, CSDMS and GDCO chairman launched the website of SuNTA. GDCO attend the meeting in Barcelona Spain.
7 The objectives of SuNTA 1- utilization of ICT for community development. 2- Improve the quality of training to enhance capacity building of Telecentre mangers, operators and the community leaders, providing them with quality skills and certification and manage more than 1500 governmental school and community Telecentres. 3- Staff exchange, sharing experiences, and knowledge and best practices with the global Telecentre network 4- bridging the digital divide (gab) especially within disabled to include (integrate) them 5- strong partnership to support existing Telecentre and establish new ones and seeking financial and technical support for the sustainability of Telecentres 6- Co-ordination between working group in ICT.
8 The e-agriculture project It is a public private partnership for community development. its objectives are 1- agriculture development through ICT 2- enhance capacity building and improve the quality of training of the agricultural sector 3- development of national and global crop marketing online to help the farmers sell their products 4- increasing crop yield and decreasing cost of crop production 5- exchange of Knowledge and best practices between farmers to establish strong partnership to improve agricultural practices 6- Achieving the 8th millennium developments goals (8MDGs). 7- Investment in the ICT sector and make the Telecentres sustainable.
9 implementation 1establishment of 7 Telecentres (GMAC,, Farmer union,, rural areas). 2- training and capacity building 3- Setting a database for GMAC 4- Determining the geographical coordinates GPS of the farms which lead to natural resource electronic (digital) map of Gedaref state 5- Designing a web portal for the crops prices 6- Under designed agro-mobile service in partnership with Drishtee organization is in process.
10 Achievements 1- GDCO build a huge database for GMAC farmers which help in quick transaction (more than farmers ) 2- Developed electronic (digital) map using the geographical coordinates of the farms. 3- A lot of information about the quality and quantity of crops are available through a web portal of crop markets 4- the agro-mobile information system which will provide 6 e-services in partnership with Drishtee 5- Achieve the 8th MDGs, Sharing experiences and best practices 6- Reduction in the cost of agricultural planning and determining the geographical coordinates (demarcation) 7- Farmers will get many added value e-services (telemedicine, eeducation. Internet cafes,), and very soon the sick people can be treated over the net 8-Training and capacity building 9- ICT for disaster control

12 Bridging digital divide The e-education and include the excluded projects are a public private partnership for community development. Disable individuals are still excluded from many areas of life including information technologies (IT) so ICT training is an important key qualification and the Standard ICT trainings are insufficient for the handicapped implementation and achievements 1- With the help of DSE and GDCO donated more than 150 PCs to train the disabled (disabled union, al-amal school for deaf, NGOs for disabled) 2- GDCO provides them with free computers (60 computers) to keep at home, practicing and communicating with their friends and families and maintaining or changing them if it is broken and also GDCO trains the disabled for free
13 3training deaf and dump as trainers TOT 4- Integration & inclusion of the disabled in the community through these Telecentres, and through many national and international conferences 5- Paying the cost of the internet for the disabled in the commercial internet café to demonstrate to the community how easy to access the net. 6- GDCO provided Brail printer, brail holly Quran and early deaf discovery instrument, 7- The Sudan celebrates the World information and Telecommunications Day May 17, 2008 at GDCO and 70 deaf students graduated. 8- GDCO promote the inclusion of the disability dimension in many conferences and GDCO
14 9- DCO established 2 computers laboratory (100 PCs) with the help of DSE in the faculty of computers science and 20 PCs for the community college in Gedaref University. 10- GDCO donated two units fully equipped with computers 20 square meters each as an e-library to Gedaref University. 11- GDCO trained 30 teachers for free (out of 120 teachers) to mange and operates the school NTC Telecentres to train the students in the morning an community in afternoon 12- Speeding a partnership between Gedaref and Fontys University through DSE 13- Establishing permanent computer labs in the deaf schools (Amal schools n Gedaref and Khartoum) handicapped 14- Establishing a telecentre (15 PCs ) for training the graduated students with the graduate supporting fund and more than 400 were trained
