White Postdoctoral Fellowship Program o United Nations University Institute of Advanced Study of Sustainability Opportunities Internal to the UA Confluencenter Graduate Fellowships Confluencenter Graduate Fellowships support both innovative and creative research by funding exploratory work and/or projects generated by students in the arts, humanities, or social sciences. Since these fellowships are limited one-time awards, applicants should propose activities that can be completed during one academic year. All projects must be finished before June 30, Citizenship: Unrestricted Deadline: February 19, 2016 Website: Tinker Field Research Grants The Center for Latin American Studies is pleased to announce the 2016 Tinker Grant competition for summer fieldwork in Latin America for Master's and PhD students. The Tinker Foundation supports travel expenses for master s and pre-dissertation fieldwork in Spanish/Portuguese-speaking Latin American or Caribbean countries during Summer 2016 (May through August). Approximately 20 grants will be awarded. Citizenship: Unrestricted Deadline: March 11, 2016 Website: UA Grad Slam Grad Slam is a campus-wide competition for the best 3-minute talk about student research and discovery. All disciplines are encouraged to participate. Presenters will be evaluated on their ability to convey in a compelling fashion the value of their research or creative work to a nonspecialist audience within the 3-minute time limit. Awards from $1000 to $3000. Citizenship: Unrestricted Deadline: February 13 Website: UA/NASA Space Grant Graduate Fellowships The UA/NASA Space Grant Program and nominating departments provide six graduate fellowships per year to exceptional graduate students interested in promoting the understanding of space-related research to the public and who are studying in space sciences/engineering,
3 public policy, earth sciences, science education, and global change-related fields. The fellowship, co-sponsored by UA/NASA Space Grant and the applicant's nominating Department, includes a stipend of $16,000 for one or two years, both in- and out-of-state fee/tuition waivers, student health insurance, and $750/year for travel to professional meetings. Space Grant fellows are required to complete an educational outreach project as part of their fellowship. Citizenship: U.S.A. Deadline: February 29, 2016 Website: General Opportunities Aga Khan Foundation for International Students Students from Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Syria, Egypt, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Mozambique, Madagascar, France, Portugal, UK, USA and Canada may be eligible for funding from the Aga Khan Foundation. A limited number of scholarships are provided each year to outstanding students from developing countries with no other means of financing their studies. Scholarships are awarded on a 50% grant, 50% loan basis through a competitive application process once a year in June or July. The Foundation gives priority to requests for Master's level courses but is also willing to consider applications for PhD programs, when doctoral degrees are necessary for the career objectives of the student. Citizenship: Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Syria, Egypt, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Mozambique, Madagascar, France, Portugal, UK, USA and Canada Deadline: Around March 31 (see website) Link: Atlas Corps The Atlas Corps Fellowship is a 6 to 18 month professional fellowship offered three times a year for professionals from around the world. Fellows serve full-time at Host Organizations located either in the United States or Latin America working on issues that complement their expertise. Fellows develop their leadership skills while sharing best practices and supplement daily knowledge with theoretical topics presented in the Atlas Corps Global Leadership Lab. Citizenship: Open Website: International Foundation for Ethical (non-animal) Research Fellowship Program The purpose of IFER s Fellowship Program is to provide financial incentives to graduate students in science that encourage them at the earliest stages of their career to integrate innovation and discovery with ethics and respect for animals. Fellowships are awarded to those candidates whose program of study shows the greatest potential to replace the use of animals in science. Graduate Fellowships to develop alternatives to the use of animals in research, testing and education are open to students enrolled in Master s and Ph.D. programs in the sciences, and human or veterinary medicine. Fellowships will also be considered for graduate students in other fields, such as education, psychology, humanities, journalism, and the law, for projects that show promise to increase public awareness or to promote changes in the legal system or public policy regarding the use of animals in research, testing, and education. 4 Deadline: April 29, 2016 Website: Organization of American States Rowe Fund Interest Free Loans The Rowe Fund is an educational loan program of the Organization of American States (OAS) that helps citizens from Latin America and Caribbean OAS Member States finance their studies or research in accredited universities across the United States by awarding interest-free loans of up to $15,000 dollars. By financing a portion of their studies in the United States, the Rowe Fund helps students complete their education while at the same time fostering cultural diversity, friendship, and communication among the people of the Americas. Citizenship: Must be a citizen of an OAS Member State (see website) Deadline: rolling Website: Norway-American Association The purpose of the scholarships is to provide financial support for Americans to study in Norway. By supporting post-graduate study or research in areas of mutual importance to Norway and the United States we hope to bring the two countries closer. By awarding scholarships to American students or researchers, knowledge and understanding will increase, and it will strengthen the ties of friendship between the two countries. Fellowships are offered to Americans and Norwegians for a year of graduate, post-doctoral, or professional study/research. Citizenship: USA Deadline: April 1, 2016 Website: Property and Environmental Research Center Fellowships PERC's fellowships for graduate students and law students offer the ideal opportunity for those who are interested in researching issues related to natural resources and the environment. Graduate fellows spend three months at PERC in Bozeman, Montana, researching and writing a paper under the supervision of a PERC senior fellow. While at PERC, fellows are required to present two workshops to outline, report on, and summarize their research findings. A paper of publishable quality is the expected result. We are a leading international center for research in the history of American science and technology and its European roots, as well as early American history and culture. 5 Artist in Residence Program - University of Victoria Centre for Studies in Religion and Society The artist-in-residence program seeks to create mutually beneficial lines of exchange between scholars and artists who share an interest in themes at the intersection of religion and society. The residency will enrich the scholarly atmosphere of the center by promoting engagement with the creative arts, and will assist artists to share and develop their practice within a university environment. The fellowship is available to artists working in visual arts (painting, drawing, photography), film and video, literary arts (fiction, poetry, drama), performing arts (dance, music, theatre), design or new media, whose creative work can be reasonably conducted in a university office. Canadian and international professional artists, new artists and MFA students are encouraged to apply. Fellowships are granted for a minimum four-month and a maximum twelve-month term, beginning September Deadline: April 18, 2016 Website: Charles Redd Center for Western Studies various fellowships and awards The mission of the Charles Redd Center for Western Studies is to promote the study of the Intermountain West by sponsoring research, publication, teaching, and public programs in a variety of academic disciplines including history, geography, sociology, anthropology, politics, economics, literature, art, folklore, range science, forestry, biology, and popular culture. The center offers a variety of awards, fellowships, and grants. These include funding for research in women s history, for study in special collections, and summer awards for graduate students. Citizenship: open to international students Deadline: March 15 Website: Institute for Humane Studies PhD Scholarships Each year IHS awards 50 PhD Scholarships to applicants intending careers in higher education or other academic pursuits whose work advances the principles of individual liberty and economic freedom. Preference is given to applicants doing work in the humanities and social sciences, particularly economics, history, philosophy, and political science. Applicants for the IHS PhD Scholarship must demonstrate research interest in the area of individual and economic freedom and its impact on societies and culture as well as a strong overall academic record. Deadline: March 1, 2016 Website: Lemmermann Foundation Scholarship Award The Lemmermann Foundation offers scholarships in the classical studies and humanities to master's and doctoral students. Topic of research must be related to Rome and the Roman culture of any period, from the Pre-Roman period to the present day time. Applicants must provide evidence for their need to study and carry out research in Rome. Citizenship: must be enrolled in a recognized university program and have a basic knowledge of the Italian language
6 Deadline: March 15, 2016 Website: National Trust for Historic Preservation - Mildred Colodny Diversity Scholarship Program This program provides financial assistance and experiential learning opportunities to individuals preparing for careers in historic preservation. The purpose of the Colodny Scholarship is to increase the diversity of people pursuing degrees and careers in historic preservation in the United States. The National Trust is seeking culturally diverse applicants whose commitment to historic preservation will be strengthened by obtaining a graduate degree in preservation, who will benefit from the internship and mentorship opportunities provided by the Trust, and who ultimately will contribute valuable, diverse perspectives to -- and become leaders in -- the field of preservation. Award includes up to $15,000 towards graduate school tuition; a paid summer internship with the National Trust following the student's first year of study; and support of the student's attendance at a National Preservation Conference or other National Trust training opportunity. Eligible fields include graduate programs in History, Architecture, American Studies, Urban Planning, Museum Studies, etc., with a primary emphasis on Historic Preservation. Citizenship: must be eligible to work in the U.S. Deadline: February 28, 2016 Website: Tucson Pima Arts Council New Works Artist Project Grant Support is available to individual artists for projects to create art that meets the highest standards of excellence across a diverse spectrum of artistic disciplines within Tucson and Pima County. Activities must include the creation of new artwork and should employ innovative forms of art making and design. The New Works Grant will rotate artistic disciplines each year. The upcoming New Works grant opportunity supports individual artists working in fields of Visual Arts, Literature (includes narrative, poetry, playwriting), Interdisciplinary, New Media, Film/Video. Deadline: March 2016 Website: Ucross Foundation Artist in Residence Program Artists, writers and composers from around the United States and the world, in all stages of their professional careers, are invited to apply to work on individual or collaborative projects. Applications are also welcome from those writing about the arts, and from individuals working in the natural sciences. Deadline: March 1 and October 1 Website: Women s Studio Workshop Internships
7 The Women s Studio Workshop provides the following opportunities: studio internships, art administration internship, summer internship, and ceramics internship. Since 1983, Women s Studio Workshop s Internship Program has been providing young artists with the opportunity to learn first-hand how women can manage productive, successful careers as professional artists. WSW interns learn techniques for developing their work, build various computer and studiobased skills, and are introduced to methods of gaining funding and exhibition opportunities. Interns also learn about the management of a renowned arts organization. Citizenship: unspecified Deadline: varied Link: Opportunities in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math American Geological Society (AGS) Summer/Fall Semester Internship in Public Policy AGI seeks outstanding geoscience students with a strong interest in federal science policy for a semester-long internship in geoscience and public policy in the Government Affairs Program. Representing the geoscience community in Washington, DC, the program actively works with Congress and federal agencies to foster sound public policy in areas that affect geoscientists, including water, energy, and mineral resources; geologic hazards; environmental protection; and federal funding for geoscience research and education. Interns will gain a first-hand understanding of the legislative process and the operation of executive branch agencies. Citizenship: U.S. citizen Deadline: March 15 and April 15 Website: American Water Resources Association Richard A. Herbert Memorial Scholarship In 1980, AWRA established the Endowment-Memorial Fund to be used for the enhancement of education in water resources. The fund has since been renamed the Richard A. Herbert Memorial Educational Fund to honor Richard A. Herbert -- a champion for water resources education -- who passed away in At least one $2,000 scholarship will also be awarded to a full-time graduate student enrolled in a program relating to water resources for the academic year. The scholarship will be awarded to the student most qualified by academic performance. Measures of academic performance include the cumulative grade point average, relevance of the student's curriculum to water resources, and leadership in extracurricular activities related to water resources. Deadline: April 22, 2016 Website: Argonne National Laboratory Thesis-Part Appointments Thesis-Parts Appointments support qualified graduate students who wish to visit Argonne for periods from a few days to a few months, so that they may utilize special Laboratory facilities. Financial support, consisting of travel, housing, and a per diem payment, may be provided to help defray the cost of visiting Argonne. Student is required to have a health insurance policy in force while at Argonne. Deadline: open
8 Website: Arizona Hydrological Society Scholarships AHS will award three $2,000 scholarships for the academic year. The purpose of the award is to encourage full-time students in hydrology, hydrogeology, or other water resources related field at an Arizona university or college to excel in their area of study. Any junior, senior, or graduate student who fits into this category is qualified to apply. Deadline: April 30, 2016 Website: Idaho National Laboratory (INL) Graduate Internships Graduate internships are awarded to qualified master s and doctoral degree candidates in science, mathematics, engineering, and technology or other relevant areas. INL offers a unique opportunity to learn, collaborate, innovate and conduct research with top researchers and professionals in the following areas: Nuclear Energy, Energy and Environment, and National and Homeland Security. Graduate internships can last from eight weeks to three years and may be awarded any time through the year. Graduate pay varies depending on whether the internship is based at a college or university or at INL. Deadline: See website Website: Society of Automotive Engineers Doctoral Scholars Forgivable Loan Program The purpose of the SAE Doctoral Scholars Program is to provide funding to assist and encourage promising engineering graduate students to pursue careers in teaching at the college level. The program is designed to help alleviate the increasing shortage of engineering college faculty by attracting qualified citizens of North America (United States, Canada, and Mexico) who are interested in pursuing teaching careers, through the promise of financial assistance during their doctoral study program. Citizenship: citizen of North America (Canada, U.S., Mexico) Deadline: February 15 Website: Southern Arizona Environmental Management Society Scholarships To encourage students planning to work on solutions to environmental problems each spring SAEMS awards scholarships to students pursuing a career in an environmental field. Awards take into account a combination of merit and need, and will be accepted for tuition/fees, books/materials, and/or research/travel/training/project funding for amounts between $500 to $4,000 per student ($10,000 in scholarship awards available). Honorable Mention interviewees are also provided a SAEMS membership to encourage their continued academic and professional growth through interaction with other environmental professionals. 9 World Wildlife Fund Russell E. Train Fellowships for International Students Russell E. Train Fellowships support individuals pursuing a master s or doctoral degree in conservation. Each year, WWF supports committed conservationists from target countries to receive financial support for their studies and field research. Applicants can apply to attend any university around the world and must return to their home countries to work in conservation for at least two years after completing their degree. Deadline: March 1, 2016 Citizenship: Varies by position (see website) Website: Postdoctoral Positions American Council of Learned Societies Public Fellows This program aims to expand the role of doctoral education in the United States by demonstrating that the capacities developed in the advanced study of the humanities have wide application, both within and beyond the academy. The ACLS Public Fellows program allows PhDs to gain valuable, career-building experience in fields such as public policy, development, conservation, arts and culture, and digital media. This year, the program will place up to 21 recent PhDs from the humanities and humanistic social sciences in two-year staff positions at partnering organizations in government and the nonprofit sector. Fellows will participate in the substantive work of these organizations and receive professional mentoring. Fellows receive a stipend of $65,000 per year, with individual health insurance and up to $3,000 to be used toward professional development activities over the course of the fellowship term. Eligibility: U.S. Citizen or permanent resident Deadline: March 24, 2016 Website: Gilder Lehrman Center Postdoctoral Fellowships for the Study of Slavery, Resistance, and Abolition The Gilder Lehrman Center for the Study of Slavery, Resistance, and Abolition at Yale University Center seeks to promote a better understanding of all aspects of the institution of slavery from the earliest times to the present. We especially welcome proposals that will utilize the special collections of the Yale University Libraries or other research collections of the New England area, and explicitly engage issues of slavery, resistance, abolition, and their legacies. Scholars from all disciplines are encouraged to apply. One and four month fellowships are available. Deadline: February 15, 2016 Website: National Aeronautics & Space Administration (NASA) Postdoctoral Fellowship Fellowships offer postdoctoral research opportunities in earth science, heliophysics, planetary science, astrophysics, space bioscience, aeronautics and engineering, human exploration and space operations, and astrobiology. Fellows participate in NASA mission-related activities as guests at NASA Centers, Headquarters, and other NASA-approved sites. Each Fellowship is tied to a specific research opportunity located at a NASA Center. The fellow must relocate to the
10 Center for the duration of the fellowship. In the case of virtual Centers such as the NASA Astrobiology Institute, the fellow must relocate to the university location of the advisor listed on the research opportunity. The fellowships are for 1-3 years. Citizenship: U.S. citizenship, Lawful Permanent Resident (LPR) status, or the Exchange Visitor J-1 Visa (research scholar only) before beginning the fellowship. Deadline: March 1, 2016 Website: Resources for the Future Gilbert F. White Postdoctoral Fellowship Program Resources for the Future (RFF) will offer resident fellowships in honor of Gilbert F. White, retired chairman of the RFF board of directors, distinguished geographer, and statesman of science. The fellowships are intended for researchers who have a doctorate degree and wish to devote a year to scholarly work in areas related to natural resources, energy, or the environment. Social scientists as well as natural scientists interested in policy-relevant interdisciplinary research are encouraged to apply. Since fellows will interact closely with RFF staff members, selection criteria will include the nature of the applicant's proposed research program and how it fits with RFF work in progress. Citizenship: unrestricted Deadline: February 19, 2016 Website: United Nations University Institute of Advanced Study of Sustainability UNU offers PhD and Postdoctoral Fellowships to provide young scholars and policymakers, especially from the developing world, with a multidisciplinary context within which to pursue advanced research and training that are of professional interest to the successful applicant and of direct relevance to the research agenda of their selected UNU-IAS or UNU Centre for Policy Research (UNU-CPR) programme. The Fellowship Programmes provide the successful applicant with a unique opportunity to develop and advance their research under the supervision of a UNU-IAS or UNU-CPR faculty member and contribute to the overall research agenda of the Institute; widen their research interests and professional networks by working in the international and multi-disciplinary context of UNU-IAS and UNU-CPR, and with their wider network of Japanese universities and research institutes, as well as international collaborators; become exposed to the workings of international and multilateral policy processes and the broader UN system; and link with other UNU-IAS and UNU-CPR PhD and Postdoctoral Fellows.
