1 Scholarships GENERAL INFORMATION The following is a list of currently available scholarships at Southeastern Louisiana University. (Please note that scholarship availability and selection criteria listed on the following pages are subject to change at any time.) To obtain additional information about scholarships, contact the Assistant Director of Scholarship Services by writing to Southeastern Louisiana University, Office of Scholarship Services, SLU 10768, Hammond, Louisiana or by calling SELU (7358) or (985) ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIPS Beginning Freshman Academic Scholarships: Any beginning freshman admitted to Southeastern with a 24 or higher ACT scores and a minimum 3.00 high school grade point average qualifies for a scholarship at Southeastern. Although there is no longer a formal deadline, students are strongly encouraged to apply early. For more information, students may visit our web site at or call the Office of Scholarship Services at (985) Early Graduates Summer Incentive Scholarship: Award of $ for the summer semester to juniors and seniors with the ability to graduate within 30 credit hours. This award is for one summer only and the recipient must carry a minimum of 6 hours. Contact Scholarship Services, SLU 10768, Hammond, LA or call (985) for an application and additional information. This scholarship is awarded on a funds-available basis. EXCEL: Award of $ per semester for 8 semesters to Beginning Freshmen. Recipients must have a minimum high school GPA of 2.5 and be nominated by their principal and/or guidance counselor. To retain one of these scholarships, a recipient must show demonstrated leadership, citizenship, and community service from high school, participate in a Leadership class during the first semester at Southeastern, maintain a 2.5 GPA each semester, and maintain full-time status at the University. After 4 semesters, recipients may reapply and must show demonstrated leadership at Southeastern to be considered for an additional award. For more information, feel free to contact the Office of Leadership Development/Student Activities at (985) Non-Resident Fee Waiver Scholarship: The Board of Supervisors has authorized each college and university to identify and award non-resident fee waiver scholarships to academically talented students among out-of-state applicants to the university. The fee waiver is a privilege that is not necessarily awarded to every qualified student. To qualify, the student must submit to the institution a letter of application for the waiver and meet standards listed under the Waiver of Non-Resident Fees. Southeastern Assistance Grants: Award of $ per semester for 4 semesters to students who show expressed need, motivation, and have at least a 3.0 GPA and 20 ACT (for beginning freshman) or 3.0 GPA (continuing and transfer students). Contact Scholarship Services, SLU 10768, Hammond, LA or call (985) for additional information. This scholarship is awarded on a funds-available basis. A student s scholarship total will be considered in the awarding process. Southeastern Merit Award: Award of $1,000 per semester for eight semesters to entering freshman documenting status as a National Merit Semi-Finalist or Finalist. To retain one of these scholarships, a recipient must maintain full-time status in the University and a minimum 3.0 GPA each semester. Southeastern s Non-traditional Scholarship: Award of $ per semester for 8 semesters to undergraduate non-traditional student (25 or older) with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 who is enrolled a minimum of 6 hours. STATE SUPPORTED SCHOLARSHIPS The Louisiana Office of Student Financial Assistance (LOSFA) administers various state and federal post secondary scholarship and grant programs. The information listed below is a brief list of some of the scholarships offered by the state of Louisiana. This is not a complete list of all state supported scholarships in Louisiana. The criterion for each scholarship listed below has been condensed. Additional information and applications may be obtained by writing to the Louisiana Office of Student Financial Assistance (LOSFA), Post Office Box 91202, Baton Rouge, Louisiana or by calling (985) or toll free LOSFA s primary scholarship program is the Louisiana Tuition Opportunity Program for Students (TOPS). This program replaces both the Tuition Assistance Plan (TAP) and the Louisiana Honors Scholarship effective July 1, To be eligible, students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) each academic year (contact LOSFA for deadline dates); must have at least a score of 20 on the ACT and a minimum 2.5 GPA; must be a Louisiana resident (domiciled in Louisiana); and must have graduated from a Louisiana high school no earlier than May of Certain high school core curriculum requirements as designated by LOSFA must also be met. Students completing a home study program approved by BESE may also qualify with a minimum ACT score of 23. A complete detailed accounting of the qualifications is available in the TOPS brochure that can be obtained by calling the Financial Aid Office at Southeastern (985) or by contacting LOSFA at Ext High School Counselors should also have eligibility and application information for TOPS. Louisiana Rehabilitation Services: This is a joint Federal-State Agency that provides assistance to students who are physically or mentally handicapped in order to help them to become gainfully employed. Assistance in college training

2 can be provided as part of the student s rehabilitation. Any student who feels he has an employment handicap should call (985) in Hammond or or write to: Louisiana Rehabilitation Services, 130 Robin Hood Drive, Hammond, Louisiana FEE WAIVER SCHOLARSHIPS Dependent Fee Waiver: Spouses and children of Faculty and Staff members who are currently employed and who have completed five years of full-time employment as of the last day of regular registration for the semester of enrollment may attend Southeastern Louisiana University. Waiver amounts are awarded to undergraduate students only with respect to hours registered. Generally, children who qualify will be limited to those who are eligible dependents for tax purposes during the calendar year in which the fee exemption is issued. Faculty/Staff Fee Waiver: Faculty and Staff members who are currently employed and have completed two years of continuous full-time employment by the last day of regular registration for the semester in which enrollment is requested are eligible for a fee waiver. Waiver amounts are awarded with respect to hours registered. Graduate Assistantships: A limited number of Graduate Assistantships are available to qualified graduate students and to students enrolled in the Alternate Certification Program. Assistantships are awarded at the discretion of the individual department heads, and assignments are made according to the needs of the University. Qualified graduate students may also be eligible for a limited number of graduate teaching fellowships. Graduate Assistants are appointed in accordance with the University of Louisiana System, Department of Civil Service, and SLU policies. Applications and information about the requirements and the availability of Assistantships and fellowships are available in the Office of the Dean of Graduate School. National Guard Exemption: Award amount covers $950 of total tuition for a full-time student in Fall and Spring semesters, and the base tuition amount for the Summer session. When a student becomes a member of the Louisiana Army or Air National Guard, the guard member completes a Unit STEP Request at his/her unit prior to the application deadline. For more information, contact the your unit. Senior Citizen Fee Waiver: Students who are 60 years of age or older (proof of date of birth is required) and are a resident of Louisiana are not charged General Fees for 3 credit hours nor an ID fee. Other registration fees and special fees will not be waived under this policy nor will individuals enrolled under this waiver be granted reductions in cost for materials and supplies required at the University Bookstore. This fee waiver will be limited to three credit hours only. In order to receive this waiver, first-time students must apply for the waiver in the Controller s Office. Southeastern Scholars Program: High school students with an ACT composite score 24 and permission of their principal. Eligible students receive a scholarship for tuition fees for up to six hours of enrollment. THE DIVISION OF STUDENT AFFAIRS SCHOLARSHIPS Bradley Lane Brummel Endowed Kappa Alpha: In order to be eligible to apply for this scholarship students must be undergraduate members in good standing of Kappa Alpha Fraternity and meet the following criteria: minimum of 30 hours earned, 2.5 or higher cumulative GPA, full-time status, and financial need. To maintain this award, the recipient must have a cumulative 2.5 or higher GPA and full time student status. William Hodding Carter Award: The William Hodding Carter Award valued at $ is awarded annually during the Spring Division of Student Affairs Awards Banquet to a junior of high academic standing (usually in the top 1% of the class) who has exhibited outstanding university and community service. The scholarship is provided by Mrs. William Hodding Carter, Jr. of Greenville, Mississippi, in honor of the late Mr. Carter s father, who was a member of the original Board of Trustees of the University. Selection of the award is made by a committee appointed by the Assistant Dean of Student Development. Zada Ellen Cheatwood-Quin Scholarship: This scholarship will be awarded to the person selected to serve as Student Government Association (SGA) President. The recipient will receive financial support during the academic year they serve as SGA President. Samuel L. Genco Scholarship: The scholarship which has a total value of $ is awarded each fall and spring semester by the Recreational Sports and Wellness Department in memory of Sammy Genco, a graduate of Southeastern Louisiana University, a student employee in the Recreational Sports and Wellness Department, an active participant in intramural activities and the first president of Southeastern s Extramural Club. Applicants must be a senior for the semester applying for, must have worked for the Department for at least a year, must have participated in at least two events or areas of the Recreation Sports and Wellness program the preceding year and must have a 2.4 or higher cumulative GPA. Applications may be obtained from the Recreational Sports and Wellness Department. David Wolfie Philippe Memorial Scholarship: Gamma Beta Phi Honor and Service Society has named this scholarship in honor of David Wolfie Philippe who was a severely handicapped honor student and an active member of Gamma Beta Phi. The scholarship provides financial assistance for a needy student who has demonstrated the ability to overcome physical hardships and still excel scholastically. The scholarship is awarded to Gamma Beta Phi members and first priority is given to handicapped students. (Recipient must be a full time student.) Applications are available in the office of the advisor of Gamma Beta Phi Honor and Service Society in the Student Union, Room 110. Student Government Association Freshman Leadership: Students applying for this scholarship award must have: full-time student status, a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0, completed the Freshman Leadership Seminar, completed of 30 hours of service, and completed 15 hours of service to SGA. COLLEGE OF ARTS, HUMANITIES, AND SOCIAL SCIENCES SCHOLARSHIPS George Bedsole Criminal Justice Endowed Scholarship: The student must be majoring in Criminal Justice with a minimum 3.00 high school or college grade point average. The student must also be enrolled full-time and be a graduate of any high school in Tangipahoa, St. Helena, and Livingston parishes.

3 Vonnie Borden Memorial Scholarship Fund: One scholarship awarded to a Communication major. To qualify a minimum 3.0 high school GPA, a minimum ACT score of 21, and maintaining a minimum college GPA of 3.0 and satisfactory participation in co-curricular/scholarly departmental activities, e.g., theater, forensics, etc. are required. Applications may be obtained by writing to the Department Head of Communication, SLU 451, Hammond, LA The scholarship amount is determined by the amount of the trust earnings. John Coumes Memorial Award: An award of up to $ is given annually to a student from a 200- or 300-level English literature class with a passion for literature to support purposeful study and/or travel. Students must be recommended by a teacher. Applicants will be required to submit a piece of writing which explains how they would spend their award monies in the pursuit of their passion for literature. Application forms are available in the Department of English. Erna Deigmayr Endowed Scholarship for the Study of French: The student must have an overall college grade point average of 3.00 and be majoring in French. The student must also have taken a minimum of four semesters for French. Student must also be participating in a French Study Abroad Program. Helen Entrikin Art Scholarship: Students applying for this scholarship will be selected based on the following factors: quality of creative work, GPA, service to the department, service to the community, and financial need. Applicants must be juniors or seniors. Retention of award is based on maintenance of above stated criteria. Michael Fanning Scholarship: An award of $ is paid to an undergraduate student majoring in English, English Education, Journalism, or Liberal Arts Studies. The candidate must have at least a 3.5 GPA, be a full-time student during the fall semester in which the stipend is paid, have completed at least 30 hours at Southeastern, and be eligible to graduate within one school year. Application forms are available in the Department of English. Holly and Smith, Architects, Inc. Excellence in Visual Arts and Music: Graduates of high schools in Tangipahoa, St. Tammany and West Feliciana Parishes are eligible to apply for this award provided they meet the following criteria: minimum high school GPA of 3.0 and major in visual arts or music. The recipient will be required to continue to major in visual arts or music while maintaining at least a 2.75 cumulative GPA in order to retain this scholarship. Also, any recipient who majors in visual arts must leave a piece of his/her art at Southeastern Louisiana University and any recipient who majors in music must perform a concert during his/her senior year. Frances Hook Scholarship Fund: This award program is designed to encourage students on all levels of their creative development. Therefore we have various price levels. In some areas, students may receive supplementary art instruction outside of the school. Applicant must be a college undergraduate, under 24 years of age. Application deadline is March 1 of each year. Applicant should contact the Financial Aid Office or write to the Frances Hook Scholarship Fund, 1910 W. Country Road B, Roseville, MN Dr. Roy E. Hyde Award: Dr. Roy E. Hyde, retired Professor Emeritus of Sociology, made this award possible. Dr. Hyde was formerly Head of the Social Science Department and is Dean Emeritus of Liberal Arts. The award is given each year to the outstanding senior in sociology. It consists of a plaque for the recipient and a permanent listing of the recipient s name on a plaque in the departmental office. Factors used in the selection process include academic average and competence in sociology. Applications may be obtained from the Head of the Department of Sociology. E.P. and Mildred Kuhn Excellence in Liberal Arts: In order to be eligible to apply for this scholarship students must meet the following criteria: minimum high school GPA of 2.5, reside in Ponchatoula and major in liberal arts. This is a renewable scholarship. Lacy Ann Livingston Endowed Scholarship in the Visual Arts: The University Scholarship Committee will select a recipient who is of good moral character and a full-time Art major with an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher, or an incoming freshman planning to major in art with a high school GPA of 3.25 or higher. The student may keep this scholarship for eight semesters provided he or she maintains a 3.0 overall GPA and all the above criteria. The scholarship amount is determined by the amount of the endowment earnings. Students can apply through the office of Financial Aid. Catha Lambert Endowment: One award to a resident of the 6th District majoring in Music. Student must have financial need and be enrolled full-time and have a GPA of 2.7 or better and be classified as a Junior or Senior. The scholarship amount is determined by the amount of the trust earnings Louisiana Police Jury Association Scholarship: One award in the amount of $250 is given each year. Person or organization providing the assistance: The Louisiana Police Jury Association. Student eligibility requirements: (1) Recipient must be entering or have already begun his or her senior year majoring in Government or Education specializing in Government or Social Studies; (2) must be a resident of Louisiana and a graduate of a Louisiana high school; (3) be of good moral character; (4) must maintain a scholastic average worthy of such an award. Procedure for making application: No application is necessary, as the student is nominated by the Head of the Department of History and Government, the Dean of the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences, and the President of the University. Terell Foots McCrory Scholarship in Communication (Radio): Students must be majoring in Communication and working in radio. Preference is given to the student workers of KSLU. Current students must have a minimum 2.5 cumulative grade point average, however, beginning freshman are required to have a minimum 3.00 grade point average and be enrolled full time. Johnnie McGary, Jr. Memorial Debate Scholarship: Scholarship in the amount of $250 per semester. Person or organization providing the assistance: Twenty-First District Judicial Bar Association. Applicants must display excellence in debating and maintain a minimum grade point average of Interested persons should contact the Director of Forensics, Department of Communication and Theater. The deadline for applying is June 1. Recipients are selected on the basis of competence in debating. Ralph McGill Scholarship: The Ralph McGill Scholarship Fund, a memorial to the late publisher of The Atlanta Constitution, offers scholarships to those students who have completed at least two years of college and who have demonstrated an abiding interest in the news and editorial phase of newspapering. Scholarships are limited to those young men and women whose roots lie in the South. Applicants must convince the awards committee that they firmly intend to pursue a career in daily or weekly newspapering and that their aptitudes are such that they are likely to become leaders in this field. A 3.0 grade point average will be required to maintain the scholarship. Applications may be obtained from the Ralph McGill Scholarship Fund, Box 4689, Atlanta, GA A 500-word letter must accompany each application giving reasons for seeking a Ralph McGill Scholarship. Applications must also be accompanied by a letter of

4 recommendation from a college authority. Awards will be in an amount not to exceed $1,500 for the school year. Awards for the upcoming scholastic year will be for the third or fourth year of college. Deadline for applications is May 1. Music Scholarships: Southeastern Louisiana University offers financial recognition in the form of performance grants (in varying amounts based on the student s performance, talent, and scholarship), to highly motivated students of music who have the potential for success. The selected students must maintain full-time status throughout the semester and contribute successfully to prescribed activities of the Department of Music and Dramatic Arts. Each award is made for one semester and may be renewed by the head of the department. Interested students may inquire at the Music Department, (985) Mary C. Nelson Scholarship: Available to music majors who are full time students. Applicants must have a minimum high school cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher and demonstrate financial need. Graduates may be recipients of this award with a minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.0. Ralph R. Pottle Honor Scholarship: Number of awards: One scholarship in the amount of $500, payable at the end of the recipient s freshman year. Person or organization providing the assistance: The family of Dr. Ralph R. Pottle. To be considered for this award, student must be full-time freshman majoring in music. Procedures for making application: Students need not apply; the selection is made by the faculty of the Department of Music and Dramatic Arts. This award is made to the outstanding freshman music major at the end of the freshman year. Recipients are selected on the basis of musicianship, scholarship, leadership, and contribution to the Department of Music and Dramatic Arts. The scholarship is presented by Ralph R. Pottle, Jr. and Fern Pottle Atkinson in honor of their father, Dr. Ralph R. Pottle, organizer of the Department of Fine Arts and Department Head until The scholarship amount is determined by the amount of the trust earnings. Frederick William Reimers Memorial Endowed Scholarship in Cultural Resource Management: The Director of Special Development Activities, the Chair of the Visual Arts Department, the Chair of the College of Business, the Advisor of the Cultural Resource Management Program, and a member of the Reimers or Schneider families will select a recipient majoring in Cultural Resource Management. This full-time student must have achieved a 3.25 or higher high school GPA and must be of moral character that exemplifies the spirit and intent of Frederick William Reimers. The student must submit a written statement and include a letter of recommendation along with the scholarship application form. If more than one student meets the above criteria, up to five scholarships may be awarded each semester. The student may keep this scholarship for eight semesters provided he or she meets all the above criteria and maintains a 3.0 overall GPA. Students can apply through the office of Financial Aid. Hans Schneider Excellence in Music Endowed Scholarship: Number of awards: One. Amount of award: Based on the earnings from the endowment. The student must be enrolled full-time at Southeastern, have graduated from high school or the international equivalent with a 3.0 or better GPA. Graduate students may be recipients of this scholarship with an overall undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or better. The undergraduate student should be active in high school extracurricular activities, be talented in and have a passion for instrumental piano, or vocal music with potential for a distinguished career in the field of music. The student must have the musical talent to bring credit and honor to the memory of Hans Schneider and the Southeastern Louisiana University Department of Music. Marietta Schneider Excellence in Music: The selection criteria are as follows: undergraduate GPA of 2.5 or higher or graduate GPA of 3.0 or higher, full-time student status, major in Music, accept the Code of Ethics of the National Association of Schools of Music, and have a talent and passion for instrumental, piano, or vocal music with a potential for a distinguished career in the field of music. This award is renewable as long as above stated criteria is maintained. Thomas Sharp Memorial Endowed Scholarship in Music: The University Scholarship Committee will select a recipient who is a full-time graduate or undergraduate student majoring in Music who has an overall GPA of 2.5 or above (beginning freshman: high school GPA of 2.75 or above.) The scholarship amount is determined by the amount of the endowment earnings. Social Work & Sociology Club Scholarships: Four merit scholarships are to be awarded annually, if possible, to qualified Social Work & Sociology Club members, contingent upon availability of funds. Criteria for qualification and application forms may be obtained from club officers, the departmental office, or by writing the Social Work & Sociology Club, SLU 919, Hammond, LA Thompson-Hollister Scholarship in Visual Arts: Students must be majoring in Visual Arts or an incoming freshman planning to major in Visual Arts. The student must also have a minimum 3.00 cumulative high school or college grade point average, good moral character and enrolled full time. Harry S. Truman Scholarship: Fifty-three awards are given nationwide. Awards are made to students in their junior year who demonstrate a firm commitment to public service and who are preparing for a career in government. They must have a grade point average of at least 3.0 and be in the upper quartile of their class. They must also show potential for leadership in public service. The award covers tuition, fees, books, room and board and can be extended to cover graduate students. Students are nominated by a Faculty Committee from the Department of History and Government and approved by the President of the University. One recipient is chosen from each state on the basis of results of competitive testing and interviewing. D. Vickers Creative Writing Award. An award of $75.00 is made at the Annual Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences Honors Convocation to a superior creative writing student. The student is chosen by the creative writing faculty in the Department of English. D. Vickers Memorial Honors Scholarship: An award of $500 per semester for one academic year, given to a fulltime student who is registered for at least one Honors course and has an outstanding record of academic achievement (with at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA). Recipients must be recommended by the Honors Coordinator. The scholarship amount is determined by the amount of the trust earnings. COLLEGE OF BUSINESS SCHOLARSHIPS Accounting Faculty and Alumni Scholarship: The current and former Department of Accounting faculty members and Accounting-Program alumni of Southeastern Louisiana University have established this scholarship to assist a deserving accounting major. Applicants should meet the following criteria: minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA, ACT score of at

5 least 20, and participation in extracurricular activities. Retention criteria: minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA and recommendation of the Departmental Scholarship Committee. Althouse s Kwik Kopy Printing Scholarship: Students majoring in business are eligible to compete for this award if they have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 and are full time students. Retention of this scholarship is based on the maintenance of a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 and full time student status. AmSouth Scholarship in Business: Student must be majoring in Business with an interest in banking. The student must also be a graduating senior from Tangipahoa of the east half of Livingston parish and ranked in the upper half of the graduating class. Association of Government Accountants: Louisiana residents who are United States Citizens are eligible to apply for this scholarship award. The established criteria for those eligible to apply are as follows: cumulative GPA of 2.5 or above, 12 or more accounting course hours completed, and be a full time student entering his/her junior year. Alexander J. Berey Endowed Scholarship in Business: Student must be majoring in business, with a minimum 3.00 grade point average. The student must exhibit financial need, a graduate of Livingston or Tangipahoa parish high school and be enrolled full-time. Dallas Leroy and Helen D. Calmes Memorial Scholarship: Number of awards: Two. Amount of award: $400 per student per semester. The scholarship is awarded to a student in the College of Business majoring in Marketing. The student must maintain a 3.0 GPA. Wilbert J. Campbell, Jr. Memorial Scholarship: Number of awards: one scholarship in the amount of $250, awarded fall semester only. The scholarship is awarded in honor of Mr. Wilbert J. Campbell, Jr. Student eligibility requirements: full time student majoring in General Business with a concentration in Industrial Technology. Minimum 3.0 GPA. Preference will be given to a Tangipahoa Parish resident. Charles Emery Cate Excellence in Business Scholarship: Applicants for this scholarship award must meet the following criteria: business major, cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher on all college coursework, completion of at least 30 hours of academic coursework at Southeastern, and active participation in University extracurricular activities. Retention is based upon the maintenance of the above listed criteria. Citizens National Bank Scholarship: This scholarship will be awarded to a graduating high school senior, ranking in the upper half of his/her graduating class, who is planning to major in business and has an interest in banking. The recipient will be selected from a high school in Tangipahoa Parish or the eastern portion of Livingston Parish. Retention is based on the maintenance of a cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher. Walter Drott Scholarship: Number of awards: One scholarship per semester, in the amount of $250. Person or organization providing the assistance: The sister of Mr. Drott, in his memory. Student eligibility requirements: High academic performance by a student majoring in the Department of Industrial Technology. Application should be made to the Head of the Department of Industrial Technology. Recipients are to be selected on the basis of high academic standing and good character. Richard and Mercedes Durham Scholarship: In order to apply for this award students must meet the following criteria: cumulative high school GPA of 3.0 or higher, intended major must be business, register as a full time student, demonstrate financial need, and be of good moral character. This scholarship will be granted for a maximum term of 8 semesters if the recipient maintains a 2.5 cumulative GPA. Byard Edwards MBA Scholarship: Applicants for this scholarship are required to meet the following criteria: must be accepted into the MBA program at Southeastern Louisiana University, enrolled in graduate level coursework only, have a minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.25, and be a resident of the Florida Parishes. This award will be granted for a term of 4 semesters as long as the student maintains a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher. Faculty Appreciation Scholarship in Economics: Students must be majoring in General Business with a concentration in Economics as of the fall semester beginning the scholarship award period. The student must also have completed at least 12 credit hours of Economics courses at Southeastern. Additional criteria is the student must be enrolled full-time and have a minimum 3.00 cumulative grade point average. First Guaranty Bank Assistantship: Assistantships are awarded at the present time. It is anticipated that the number will increase, as funds are available. Applicants must (1) be residents of Tangipahoa Parish; (2) majoring in business; and (3) have at least a 2.5 overall average. Applicants should complete an application from which can be secured from the Dean of the College of Business. Recipients are selected on the basis of their ability to perform work required for the Assistantship, with consideration given to the applicants needs, qualifications, and availability to work when needed. The total amount of the award is determined by the amount of earnings from an established trust fund. R. Norval Garrett Scholarship: The scholarship has a total value of $1, and is awarded to one student annually by the Hammond Kiwanis Club in memory of Dr. R. Norval Garrett, a charter member of the Hammond Kiwanis Club and former Dean, College of Business. Applicants must be majoring in a business curriculum, have attained junior (60 hours) standing, and have a cumulative grade point average of 3.00 or better. Each applicant must submit a type written letter outlining his/her financial need and their involvement with the university community. The applicant must be a member of two campus organizations or one campus and one community organization (other than religious affiliations). The applicant must attach a letter of recommendation from a professor and from the department head of the academic department in which the applicant is majoring. Hill-Krause Business Endowed Scholarship: Applicants for this scholarship must be business majors who have demonstrated academic excellence and have evidence of financial need. This award may be renewed at the discretion of the selection committee. Hood Automotive Endowed Scholarship in Business: Persons applying for this award must meet the following criteria: business major, full time student status and good moral character. Beginning freshmen must have a cumulative high school GPA 3.0 or higher. Continuing students must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher on all coursework completed. The Hood Automotive Scholarship will be awarded for up to 8 semesters provided the recipient continues to major in business and maintains of cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. Institute of Managerial Accountants (IMA) Scholarship: The Baton Rouge chapter of IMA provides funding for this scholarship to assist a deserving accounting major. Applicants should meet the following criteria: interest in career in managerial accounting, one semester remaining before graduation (excluding summer semester), and be active student member of Southeastern s chapter of IMA.

6 Joe and Kay Iverstine Memorial Scholarship: The scholarship is awarded to a student with junior or senior Business major. Recipients must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and not be receiving any other scholarships from College of Business, Board of Trustees, or TH Harris Foundation. The number of scholarships and amount of each is determined by the amount of trust earnings or by the individuals providing the scholarship. Elaine Belcher Latino Scholarship: Number of awards: One. Amount of scholarship: $500 per semester. The student must be a female majoring in Business with a junior standing. The student must maintain a 3.25 GPA and be active in University extracurricular activities. The College of Business can be contacted for applications. Charles Wesley Merritt Scholarship: Three types of scholarships are awarded: Recruiting Freshmen, Graduating Seniors, and International study. The student must be enrolled as a full-time student majoring in Business on the graduate or undergraduate level. An undergraduate student must have an overall grade point average of at least 3.0 and a graduate student must have an overall grade point average of at least 3.5. Students should apply to the Dean of the College of Business. The amount of each scholarship varies and is contingent upon available funds determined specifically by the amount of earning from the Trust Fund. The College of Business Scholarship Committee selects the recipient from the list of applicants. Additional requirements may apply to each individual category. Neill Family Company Scholarship: The selection criteria are as follows: minimum high school GPA of 3.5 or higher, graduate of a Florida Parishes high school, and major in computer science. Award will be renewed for up to 8 semesters if recipient continues to major in computer science and maintains a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. Northshore Chapter, Society of Louisiana CPAs Scholarship: The Northshore Chapter of the Louisiana Society of CPAs provides funding for this scholarship to assist a deserving accounting major. Applicants should meet the following criteria; full-time accounting major, minimum 3.0 GPA, demonstrate financial need in written letter of application, and preferably (not required) be a resident of St. Tammany, Washington, Tangipahoa, or St. Helena parishes. Retention criteria: continue to meet the criteria outlined above. Charles and Patricia O Drobinak: Juniors and seniors, with at least one semester of coursework remaining before graduation, may apply for this award provided they meet the following criteria: an accounting major, 3.25 GPA in college coursework, and active participation in University extracurricular activities. Jules Prokop Endowed Presidential-Level Scholarship in Accounting: The criteria for this award follows: accounting major, minimum high school cumulative GPA of 3.2 or minimum collegiate GPA of 2.75 and a minimum ACT score of 22. This award will be granted for up to 8 semesters as long as the recipient maintains a cumulative GPA of 2.75 or above. Paul Reeves Scholarship: The student must be enrolled full-time in the College of Business majoring in Finance. A 3.25 GPA must be maintained. The scholarship amount is determined by the amount of the trust earnings. Richard and Glory Sharp Scholarship: Number of awards: Three. Student must represent Southeastern Louisiana University in intercollegiate sports and be majoring in the College of Business. The scholarship amount is determined by the amount of the trust earnings. Addie Lela Thompson Smith Memorial Scholarship: Number of awards: One. Amount of award: $1000 per semester. The student must be a graduating senior from Kentwood High School who intends to major in accounting at Southeastern. The recipient must continue to major in accounting and must maintain a GPA of 2.5 or better. Southeastern Louisiana University Student Scholarship Fund: Number of awards: Approximately three per year. The exact amount of the scholarship will vary and will be based on the earnings of the fund. Applicants must be undergraduate students majoring in the College of Business. They must have a 3.5 cumulative and major average and must have completed 45 semester hours of credit. Applications will be solicited during the spring semester. The College of Business Scholarship Committee will select the recipients from eligible applicants. Julien A. and Doris Evelyn Waller Tillery Endowment Scholarship: Number of awards: One. Amount of award: Based on funds available from interest. The students must be enrolled full time at Southeastern Louisiana University, have evidence of financial need, be a beginning freshman majoring in business with a 3.0 or higher high school GPA, and be of the highest moral character and behavior. Applications may be obtained from the College of Business. Audrey and Nicholas Tournillon Endowed Presidential Level Scholarship: Applicants for this scholarship are required to meet the following criteria: married student, enrolled in the MBA program with a concentration in finance and/or economics, and have achieved a 2.7 or higher cumulative GPA on undergraduate coursework. Award will be given for up to 4 semesters as long as the recipient makes satisfactory progress toward graduation. Thomas A. Utsey, Jr. Memorial Scholarship: Number of awards: One scholarship each year, awarded semiannually; the total amount to be 80% of the accrued interest on an established fund in honor of Mr. Thomas A. Utsey, Jr. Student eligibility requirements: full-time student in Industrial Technology, 2.5 or better overall grade point average, and financial need. Preference will be given to a student pursuing a private pilot s license or the upgrading of a license. Application should be made to the Head of the Department of Industrial Technology in the spring. Sarah Dosher Waters Endowed Scholarship: Applicants should meet the following criteria: minimum 2.5 GPA and Accounting major. Wegmann Dazet & Company Accounting Scholarship: The Wegmann Dazet & Co. Professional Corporation of CPAs provides funding for this scholarship to provide financial support for an outstanding accounting major. Applicants should meet the following criteria: accounting major, junior or senior standing (preferably junior or first semester senior), minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA in Accounting and overall. Preference to students that have an interest in pursuing a career in the public-accounting profession, that participate in extracurricular activities, and that demonstrate financial need. COLLEGE OF EDUCATION AND HUMAN DEVELOPMENT SCHOLARSHIPS Enos F. Jake Bailey Scholarship: In memory of Enos F. Bailey Sr. and Bailey Hughes. Awarded to a full time student who graduated from a high school in Tangipahoa Parish and is majoring in Education. The student must have a 2.5 GPA or better. Bickham Inc.-Edgar Cayce Foundation Research Award: Students majoring in counseling education will be able to compete for this award. The award will be based on the evaluation of research papers written in a counseling class. The authors of the three highest scoring papers will receive scholarships.

7 Noel and Essie Bickham Endowed Scholarship in Education: In order to be eligible to apply for this award, students must be education majors who meet the following criteria: full-time student status, demonstrate financial need, and have graduated from high school in good standing. To maintain this scholarship, students must continue to major in education, remain full-time, and maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher. W. L. Billups Scholarship: Person or organization providing assistance: The Department of Special Education. These scholarships are presented to junior and senior students majoring in Special Education (preferably with an emphasis on Retardation). Criteria for selection of recipients of scholarships: Recipients shall be Louisiana residents selected by the Head of the Department of Special Education and/or a faculty committee appointed by the Department Head, based upon the highest scholastic achievement of a 3.0 or better average. The scholarship amount is determined by the amount of the trust earnings. Minnie Bond Scholarship: Number of awards: One award is given in the amount of $100. Person or organization providing the assistance: Beta Gamma Chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society. Student must be a junior from Livingston Parish majoring in Education. Recipients are chosen by the Beta Gamma Chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society. Bill and Katherine Clark Scholarship in Education: Number of awards: One. Scholarship is awarded in the spring to a graduate of either Bishop Sullivan or St. Thomas Aquinas High Schools. Student must be an entering freshman for the following fall semester and majoring in Education. Students may apply at their high school s guidance counselor s office. Final award is made by the College of Education. College of Education Senior Scholarship: Two awards per year, exact amount will vary based on interest earned by the scholarship fund. Approximate annual value of scholarship is $400. Applicants must be undergraduate majors in the College of Education with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 and must have earned 90 hours (30 of which must have been earned at Southeastern) by the end of the semester in which application for the scholarship is being made. Applications will be solicited during the spring semester. The College of Education Scholarship Committee will select the recipients from eligible applicants. Procedures for making application and application forms are available from the Dean s office, College of Education, Cate Teacher Education Center. Alice R. Douglas Memorial Scholarship: Number of awards: One. Amount of Award: $500 per semester. The scholarship is funded to a student enrolled full-time with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5. The student must be a resident of East Baton Rouge Parish. Paul Douglas Scholarship: Amount of award $2,500 per semester. Applicants must be Education majors who are graduates of a Louisiana public or approved private high school. Applicants must have a 3.0 GPA for the last seven semesters in high school, graduate in the top 10% of their high school class and have an ACT Composite score of 22 or a 3.2 on a 4.0 scale in college. This scholarship is set up as a loan with principal and interest forgiven if the recipient teaches full-time in a public or other non-profit institution. Applicants should contact Office of Student Financial Assistance, P. O. Box 91202, Baton Rouge, LA Application deadline: March 1 for fall and December 1 for spring. Ginger Fortenberry Ford, Homemaker, Scholarship: Number of awards: One. The student must be majoring in Family and Consumer Science with priority given to a student choosing the concentration area of Vocational Family and Consumer Science Education. The scholarship is provided through a bequest from Judge Leon Ford, III and his family in memory of his wife. The award will go to a beginning freshman on the basis of economic need, U.S. citizen and Louisiana or Mississippi resident, GPA of 2.5 or higher, participation in high school activities, good character, no record of disciplinary problems and the student must be eligible for admission to SLU. Application for the scholarship must be submitted to the Family and Consumer Sciences faculty through the applicant s high school principal by April 1. The application shall consist of a high school transcript and letters from the student, the principal and one high school teacher. The scholarship amount is determined by the amount of the trust earnings. Joyce Helms Memorial Scholarship: Number of awards: One in the amount of $500 per semester for eight semesters. Person or organization providing the assistance: Family and friends of the late Joyce Helms. Student eligibility requirements: (1) must be a freshman majoring in Special Education; (2) must maintain an overall grade point average of 2.5 or better each semester; (3) must be enrolled as a full-time student. Student must have (1) economic need; (2) good moral character; (3) at least average grades on high school work. A committee composed of the Head of the Department of Special Education and two faculty members will review all applications. Application should be made to the Head of the Department of Special Education. The Myra C. Lillard Scholarship in Family and Consumer Sciences: Number of awards: Three each year. The scholarship is provided through a bequest from Mr. Purser Lillard, in memory of his wife. Student eligibility requirements: Award 1: junior family and consumer sciences major with highest grade point average. Award 2: junior family and consumer sciences major with second highest grade point average. Award 3: sophomore family and consumer sciences major with highest grade point average. In addition to the academic requirements, recipients must not be on disciplinary probation. Procedures for making application: No applications are necessary as awards are based on grade point average. Recipients are selected in accordance with the eligibility criteria. If two students have the same grade point average, the student who, in the opinion of the Family and Consumer Sciences faculty, has the greater leadership ability and professional potential will be awarded the scholarship. The amounts for each of the annual awards are determined by the interest received on the trust fund. Meriel s Legacy Scholarship: The Meriel s Legacy Scholarship is a $1,000 per semester award presented to a minority student majoring in elementary education at Southeastern Louisiana University, with a demonstrated interest in developmental or educational psychology. To apply, the student must be a minority student majoring in Elementary Education with at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA, be a full-time student with at least 30 hours completed in the program, having completed at least 3 hours beyond the core curriculum in developmental or educational psychology. Submit application form with the following: copy of transcript, copy of most recent IRS income tax return to demonstrate financial need (may outweigh GPA), three letters of recommendation, a short (1-2 typed pages) essay on the topic: How does an understanding of child development impact teaching practices? The recipient of the scholarship may retain the scholarship through graduation if the student continues to meet the selection criteria and maintains a 3.0 GPA. Applications are available in the office of the Department of Teacher Education (SLU 749, Hammond, LA 70402). The deadline for the application to be received by the Department of Teacher Education is April 1.

8 Minority Male Scholars in Education: Amount of award $1,000 per semester. Applicants must be minority male education majors who are graduates of a Louisiana public or approved private high school. High school graduates must have a minimum ACT score of 22 or a minimum ACT score of 20 with a GPA of at least 3.0. College applicants must have a minimum college GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. The scholarship is set up as a loan with principal and interest forgiven if recipient teaches full-time in a public or other non-profit institution. Deborah Rae Morris Endowed Scholarship in Special Education: Number of awards: One scholarship in the amount of $550 per semester. This scholarship was established by Dr. Elizabeth D. Evans and her husband, Dr. William T. House, in memory of her sister and devoted parents, Ray and Rowena Morris. Student must be enrolled full-time in Special Education and have a minimum cumulative GPA of Junior standing is preferred, but not required. Applications may be obtained in the Special Education Department. Tangipahoa Parish Retired Teachers Association Scholarship: Number of awards: One grant in the amount of $150. Person or organization providing the assistance: Tangipahoa Parish Retired Teachers Association. Recipients must be one of the top five juniors in the College of Education. The award will be used during the Fall registration of the Senior year. Recipients will be selected by a committee composed of the Dean of the College of Education, the head of the Teachers Training program, one additional faculty member from the College of Education, and two members of the Tangipahoa Parish Retired Teachers Association. Applicants should contact the Dean of the College of Education. Tangipahoa Parish Teachers Credit Union: Number of awards: Two. Amount of award: $500 per semester. This scholarship is funded by the Tangipahoa Parish Teachers Credit Union. The student must be an education major. COLLEGE OF NURSING AND HEALTH SCIENCES SCHOLARSHIPS Melissa Claire Acosta Memorial Scholarship: Applicants must be in good standing and show financial need. Applicant must be a resident of Tangipahoa parish who is a junior or senior majoring in Nursing. Student must also have a high academic average and financial need. Students may apply by writing a letter to the Dean of the School of Nursing requesting that they be considered for a scholarship. This scholarship is awarded through the Department of Communication Sciences & Disorders to a graduate student majoring in the field of speech-lanauage pathology with a minimum GPA of 3.0 and classified as a full-time student.
