IMPORTANT: The following scholarships are ONLY for tuition, books, tools, and supplies, or Bates Childcare, and cannot be used for living expenses. Scholarships are not available to Technical High School or High School 21+ students. If your tuition and books, tools, and supplies are paid 100% by an outside agency such as BFET, Worker Retraining, WorkFirst, VA funding, etc. you will not want to apply for a scholarship. However, if your tuition is not fully funded, you receive financial aid in the form of student loans, or are a self-pay student, we encourage you to apply! Summer Quarter Scholarship Descriptions and Criteria Associated Student Government (ASG) Scholarship Amount Awarded: $750 Ten scholarships Full- or half-time career-training students. Associated Student Government (ASG) Childcare Scholarship maximum Three scholarships Use of Scholarship: This scholarship is for payment to the Bates childcare facility for the quarter in which the award is received. Full- or half-time students with child(ren) in Bates childcare. Page 1 of 9

2 Boiler Symposium Endowed Scholarship Amount Awarded: $475 Full- or half-time career-training students in the facilities maintenance engineering program. Bruce Brennan Memorial Scholarship Amount Awarded: $750 Two scholarships Full-or half-time students enrolled in a career-training program. Culinary Arts Promotion Association (CAPA) Scholarship Use of Scholarship: Tuition, books and supplies, including uniforms Full-or half-time career-training students in the culinary arts program. Dayton E. Finnegan Scholarship Amount Awarded: $1000 Use of Scholarship: Tools and supplies ONLY Full-time career-training students in the sheet metal program. Preference will be given to students with financial need. Gene Haas Scholarship Full-or half-time students enrolled in the machinist or CNC machinist programs. Clyde Hupp Scholarship Full- or half-time students enrolled in a career-training program. Lakewood First Lions Club Scholarship Full-time career-training students in the sheet metal program. Mt. Rainier Region VCCA Auto Scholarship Full-or half-time career-training students enrolled in the auto body rebuilding and refinishing program. Page 2 of 9

3 Muckleshoot Scholarship for Native Americans Amount Awarded: $1000 Two scholarships Use of Scholarship: Tuition ONLY Native American students enrolled in a career-training program. Rottler Manufacturing Scholarship Amount Awarded: $1,000 Three scholarships Full-or half-time career-training students in the CNC machinist, machinist or mechanical engineering programs. Henry T. Schatz Endowed Scholarship Amount Awarded: $1,500 Seven scholarships Use of Scholarship: Tuition, books, tools and supplies Full-or half-time career-training students enrolled in one of the following programs: CNC machinist, welding, sheet metal, facilities maintenance, manufacturing engineering, industrial electronics and robotics technician, electrical engineering, electronics engineering, and machinist. Zach Stewart Endowed Scholarship Amount Awarded: $1,250 Use of Scholarship: Tuition, books, tools and supplies Full-time career-training students enrolled in one of the following programs: Architectural woodworking/cabinet making technology, carpentry, electrical construction, electrical engineering technician, facilities maintenance engineer, HVAC/R, industrial electronics and robotics technician, machinist, mechanical engineering, and sheet metal technology. First preference will be given to students in HVAC/R, students must demonstrate merit, financial need may be considered. Washington Dental Service Foundation Scholarship Amount Awarded: $1000 Full-or half-time career-training students in the dental assisting program. Important Notes The foundation and its governing board reserve the right to amend awards at its discretion. Scholarships are not available to Technical High School or High School 21+ students. Priority will be given to tuition payment. Only those books and supplies listed on the program list are permitted for purchase, unless pre-approved by the foundation. Scholarship funds cannot be used as reimbursement for items purchased prior to the award date. Scholarships cannot be used for living expenses. Scholarships must be used in the quarter awarded. Receiving a foundation scholarship may affect your financial aid. If you would like additional information, please contact the financial aid office directly at Page 3 of 9

4 When accepting a foundation scholarship you agree that: 1. Funds will only be used to further your education at Bates Technical College. 2. You understand that you must notify the Bates Foundation office of any changes in your educational plan. Changes may affect your scholarship award. 3. You authorize the Bates Foundation to have access to your student records as needed and potentially use the information included in your application for promotional purposes. 4. You will write a thank you note to the donor. 5. You will make your best effort to attend the spring Scholarship Luncheon. Welcome to the AwardSpring scholarship application process! IMPORTANT: This application DOES NOT support INTERNET EXPLORER. You can use Chrome, Safari, and Firefox as your browser. Visit to start the application process. Please upload a Word document stating that information. You will also answer five essay questions in this section. When you have completed all sections, click the Submit Application button that is highlighted in yellow. The button will not highlight if any of the tabs indicate that you are still In Progress. In the next section you will see all the scholarships you are eligible for, based on the information you entered. You still need to complete one more step to submit your application.
