2 2 of 14 6/5/2018, 6:18 PM scholarship recipients, including the school that they will be attending: Erin Shaw (H.C. The motto of Girl Scouts is "to serve God and my country, to help people all times and to live by the Girl Scout Law". Completing her Bronze and Silver Awards, she had the opportunity to collect and donate food for local homeless shelters and create over 200 homemade art and activity booklets for patients at the Alfred L. Dupont Hospital for Children. She is very involved in the church community as well at St. Luke Parish where she completed over 50 hours of service to achieve the Presidential Award and worked as the Head Coordinator for the food pantry where she helped donate over 200 pounds of food. Currently enrolled in Polytech's Commercial Art and Design program and a member of the National Art Honor Society, she plans to attend Virginia Commonwealth University in the fall to pursue her goal as a graphic designer. Kayla Whitlock (HCRHS Student): Every summer Kayla travels with her church to assist impoverished members of the community; specifically, those with disabilities who need handicap accessible homes. As a captain of the cross country and track teams, she shares her passion for running through serving as a trainer for the Hunterdon County Track and Field Special Olympics. She is a peer mentor, member of Connect Club, and has volunteered with the Trenton Area Soup Kitchen and Relay for Life. Currently, she volunteers at the Cancer Support Center of Central Jersey where she helps those who have lost loved ones to cancer. This student is a servant leader who will pursue a career as a speech pathologist with the intention of helping those with disabilities. Kayla will be attending the University of Maryland in the fall. Katarina Stephanik (HCRHS Student): Katarina spends over one hundred hours each year volunteering at the Hunterdon Medical Center where she delivers flowers to patients and assists visitors. Excelling academically, she is a member of five honor societies and received praise referrals for exemplifying the H.C.R.H.S. Pillars of Characters. She is committed to educating others as a Sunday school teacher at her church and a member of the Teen Prevention and Education Program, which helps students with healthy decisionmaking. She is a member of the Field Hockey Team, Girls Scouts, Connect Club, and serves as the president of the Doctors of Tomorrow Club. With career aspirations in the medical field, Katarina is committed to the service of others. Katarina will be attending The College of New Jersey. Panayiois "Peter" Kousoulas (HCRHS Student): Every major holiday, Peter can be found assisting local food pantries through delivering and serving those who are less fortunate. As a president of his youth group, he has worked with numerous other local charities to help serve the community. He is a member of four honor societies and served as the Co-President of the French Honor Society where he led the organization's first fundraiser. As a co-captain of the Cross-Country team, he mentored younger runners and assisted them in achieving personal records. With an intended major of mechanical engineering, Peter seeks to use his career to improve the lives of others. Peter will be

PEDALS FOR PROGRESS Bicycle, Sewing Machine & Sports Equipment Collection Saturday, June 16, 2018 Time: 9am to 12noon Flemington Presbyterian Church 10 East Main Street - Flemington, NJ Joe Ziegler hopes that you can join us for another Collection at the Flemington Presbyterian Church. Items to be collected include Used Bicycles (adult and child), Used Sewing Machines (in working condition) and Sports Equipment (soccer balls, baseball gloves, etc. that can fit in the shipping containers between the bikes). The collection is sponsored by the Flemington Presbyterian Church and the Rotary Club of Flemington. Click Here to view the event flyer. Please help do your part to put unused bikes to good use in the developing world.

5 5 of 14 6/5/2018, 6:18 PM Requirements: - Bikes should be rust free. - Bikes with flat tires in need of some repair are accepted. - No children's trikes. - "Bikes for parts" are not accepted. - Portable sewing machines shall be in working condition. A $10 minimum cash donation is required with each bike or sewing machine. All material and monetary donations are tax deductible. A receipt will be provided on site. The required cash donation helps to offset the cost to ship the bikes to the developing countries. The bikes collected will be sent to Nicaragua, Ghana, Albania, and Kosovo. Pedals for Progress, also known as P4P, collects 5000 to 7000 bicycles annually and transfers this material wealth to those more needy. Thus rescuing bicycles destined for America's landfills and delivering them to societies where they are badly needed and highly valued. To date, more than 150,462 bicycles, 3,735 used sewing machines and $10.8 million in new spare parts have been shipped to partner charities in 38 developing countries. In these countries, the bikes are reconditioned by partner agencies and distributed at low cost to poor working adults. These bikes provide them with reliable transportation for commuting to work, transporting produce to market, or accessing health care and other services. Steady employment for these adults is vital to the development and success for these economies. It costs $40 to collect, process, ship, rebuild and distribute each bicycle. The required $10 donation helps to offset the shipping costs. P4P is a 501(c)(3) corporation and a registered charity in the states of NJ, PA, NY, CT, IA & VT. Brochures explaining this innovative program will be available at the collection site. P4P also seeks donations of wrenches for our oversees shops. For detailed information about our overseas projects and a current schedule of bicycle collection, visit the P4P website at If you miss this collection date, you can locate other bike collections through the Pedals for Progress website: Please Consider Supporting YOUR FLEMINGTON ROTARY FOUNDATION The Flemington Rotary Foundation was established in 2017 and was organized for the charitable and educational purposes of the Rotary Club of Flemington, NJ.
