December 17, 2018 MAIN MENU * This Week s Announcements * Stevenson News and Information * Junior News and Information * This Week s Events * Teacher Talk * Sophomore News and Information * Senior News and Information * District News and Information This Week s Announcements Dear Titan Families, Last week we had our first sweep using the canine units. I commend our students for their cooperation during the operation. As expected, the sweep did not find anything of significant concern anywhere on the grounds. While the sweep did have several false positives, there are several reasons why that can occur and do not reflect any wrongdoing on the owners of the lockers or vehicles involved. This first sweep was announced and served more of a training for the canine units. In the future, the sweeps will be unannounced, and the procedures involved may vary depending on the situation. Even with these sweeps, the key to Stevenson being a great place to learn and work is the continued efforts of our outstanding students and staff who work together every day to keep our building safe. Attention Seniors-The final semester matters! Every year we have seniors that put their scholarships and college acceptance in jeopardy by allowing grades to fall or by taking a less than academic rigorous schedule. Colleges require us to send the final transcript with an updated GPA (yes, we update the GPA after final semester grades are in despite some of the rumors out there). If you allow your grades to slip or you do not take the same level of rigor, a college may pull your acceptance and/or our scholarship.
2 UCS Scholarship opportunity for Seniors UCS graduating seniors are invited to apply for the 2019 Superintendent s Scholarship awards program. The scholarships are funded with proceeds from the Utica Community Schools Foundation for Educational Excellence s annual Evening of Excellence. Students are required to submit a copy of their high school transcript as well as receive one recommendation from a teacher, school counselor, administrator or non-family member. The individual making the recommendation will need to submit an online appraisal. In addition to the Superintendent s Scholarship, there is one optional scholarship opportunity within the application the Brett Klenow Scholarship. The online application is available at: or on the UCS home page under Students in the mid-menu on the center of the page. The deadline to submit the completed application and appraisal is 11:59 p.m. on Monday, January 7, College Board Scholarship Opportunities The College Board is committing $25 million in scholarships over the next five years, beginning with the class of Students earn chances at scholarships by completing key actions along the path to college. Over the course of two days 1500 students and their directors gather for the Festival to see multiple shows, choose from over 200 different workshops, compete in their choice of 18 different theatre specific Individual Events, audition for scholarships from colleges & universities and mingle with industry professionals. Overall, students and educators from across the state can share together in their common love for the theatre arts in an extremely exciting weekend. The festival also allows adults the chance to network with other theatre teachers, attend workshops of their own, and gain valuable practical information on how to improve theatre at their own schools. Troupe 33 earned 16 Excellent and 2 Superior ratings in Individual Events ranging from solo & duet singing, group dances, solo & duet acting, playwright, as well as Technical department presentations. Several of our seniors auditioned for college scholarships and were collectively offered a total of $327,500! Congratulations to McKenzie Cook, Sarah Cybulski, Mason Gaida, Jordan House, and Alexis Patton on your scholarship offers!
3 Cheer teams are winners in competition and in giving! This week has been busy for the Titan Cheer Family! On Thursday, we hosted the MAC Crossover competition. Both JV and Varsity celebrated 1st place wins! Such a great way to start the season. A special thank you to Mr. Smith and everyone who helped make this competition amazing! In addition, the Titan Cheer Family has adopted a Macomb County family for Christmas. Our cheer family has collected over 70 gifts and gift cards to bring a smile to their faces!
