The course will cover all major wildlife diseases with a particular focus on pathogens that can cross-infect humans. The reason for this course is to distinguish the population health requirements for the BSN (pre-licensure) and RN-BSN (post-licensure) degrees and to reduce the number of credit hours for this course required for the BSN degree. The reduction of credit hours in this course will align the curriculum with the 2013 American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) public health recommendations and competencies identifying that population health be taught throughout the curriculum rather than in isolation in one course. In addition, these changes align the BSN program courses with the 2008 AACN Essentials of Baccalaureate Education for Professional Nursing Practice and its accreditation standards. 2.
