CAREAWARE ROOMLINK
What is RoomLink? Digital sign that replaces the paper signs and notices used in other areas to communicate to caregivers about patients needs. The device is right outside the patient s room. Easily view safety information, such allergies and precautions (fall risk, NPO status, and so on) here. RoomLink will be used on EMMC s Penobscot Pavilion inpatient units.
RoomLink Device Basics When a patient is registered to a bed, white lights on the sides of the corresponding RoomLink device will come on.
Introduction to RoomLink Please be sure to always check the device before entering a patient room. This is important, as other visual cues (such as the isolation carts and paper signs) will not be present.

Summary If you have any questions about what an icon means, please ask the nursing staff. Please visit the EMHS Clinical Informatics EMMC Modernization Technology Project Support Page for the most up-to-date information and reference materials.
CAREAWARE MYSTATION
What is mystation? mystation is an information, education, and entertainment tool on the patient s TV! When a patient is registered to a hospital room, mystation will update with his/her information. Patients can watch TV, surf the internet, play games using the pillow speaker and/or wireless keyboard in their rooms.
What is mystation? They can also look at information from the electronic medical record and watch education videos assigned to them by the nursing staff. mystation will be used on the new adult units in the Penobscot Pavilion.
RESPONDER 5 NURSE CALL SYSTEM
What is Responder 5? Complete, easy-to-use system that ties together the electronic medical record, staffing assignments, patient call and alarm system, and certain wireless devices. Calls from a patient can be relayed directly to the nurse's wireless device in real time. Best of all, this nurse call system is quiet - which promotes a healing stress free environment.
ROOM COMPONENTS

PILLOW SPEAKER
BED ALARMS
DUAL ENHANCED PATIENT STATION
BATHROOM PULL STATIONS

Things to Know Emergency alarms (including the bathroom pull cord) will be sent out to all nursing staff via their mobile devices. Use care when servicing rooms to avoid activating emergency alarms.
Things to Know The pillow speakers used on the adult units cannot be used in NICU, and vice versa. The beds and pillow speakers in Penobscot Pavilion cannot be used in the rest of the hospital and vice versa.
RN in Room The top Dome Light will display solid PURPLE.
NT in Room The second Dome Light will display in solid GREEN.

Non-Emergency Calls Non-Emergency calls will go to the nursing station console, as well as, the most appropriate nursing staff member. For example, a PAIN button call (on 6Cardiac) goes directly to the patient s nurse.
Non-Emergency Calls If the nurse/nurse tech is unable to handle a call/alert, it will proceed to another person according to call type. There are different colors and configurations for each call/alert type. Please follow the link in the next part of this course to view, download and/or print a flyer outlining how these will work.
CAREAWARE CONNECT
What is CareAware Connect? Nursing staff in the Penobscot Pavilion will carry special mobile devices that tie into the nurse call, physiologic monitoring, and electronic medical record systems. The phones will have two applications on them. CareAware Connect: Communication (calling, texting) Alerts (nurse call, physiologic monitor) Connect Inpatient: Assigned patients Parts of the electronic medical record Care Team
What is CareAware Connect? Both applications use an android mobile device over hospital WIFI. (They will not work outside the hospital.) The CarePhone mobile devices will be used by nurses and nursing support staff in EMMC s Penobscot Pavilion. Certain providers will also have the opportunity to install an application on their personal devices. This app allows them to secure text with nursing staff. You may hear this referred to as a BYOD or Bring Your Own Device application.
Care & Storage The CarePhones will be stored in special charging cabinets on the nursing units. The CarePhones can be cleaned with bleach or hydrogen peroxide wipes.
Thank you! This concludes this elearning module. As always, please contact the IS HelpDesk with any questions, issues, or concerns. This elearning module was created by: Kelli Magoon, MSN, RN CI Specialist - Senior
