3 As Manager of Labs for Wellington Health Care Alliance, I witness amazing work done in our labs. This year the lab at Louise Marshall Hospital (LMH) needs several upgrades. The Foundation added these projects to its annual equipment list and now seeks community support so we can maintain an efficient lab at our local hospital. The Ontario government provides funding for operating costs to hospitals; however little funding is designated for new equipment. Generous donations from our community for equipment is essential. My wish this Christmas is that you consider supporting the equipment projects for our lab as described in this Wish Book. 4 Reagent Freezer A Reagent Freezer costs $13,000. Karen Regan explains the efficient storage of various lab products kept in the freezer. More space and consistent temperature is essential.
5 A reagent freezer is an essential part of our lab at Louise Marshall Hospital. Karen Regan, Medical Lab Technologist Laboratory freezers are required equipment used to store testing reagents, quality control material and frozen plasma, a product transfused to patients during a massive transfusion or to a bleeding patient with abnormal coagulation. The freezer is high performance with built in remote alarms to detect any fluctuations in temperature that could compromise the integrity of stored material. This freezer just arrived so funding is needed.
6 Blood Bank System A Blood Bank System costs $25,000. Brenda Holliday shows a sample which is part of the blood bank at Louise Marshall Hospital.
7 Managing blood supply is a primary lab function. It is essential to our hospital. Brenda Holliday, Lab Manager WHCA Blood bank systems are used for critical tests that identify a patient s blood group, screen for antibodies that may have developed and ensure that blood that is being transfused is compatible for the patient. automated reader to replace manual interpretation and interfaced results with the laboratory information system to eliminate the possibility of transcription errors.
