6 Legal Focus Qatar Labor Law (14 of 2004) Article 105 Periodical medical check-ups shall be carried out on workers exposed to the dangers of infection with the vocational diseases in all activities of the work at intervals appropriate to the hazards involved with the work (in accordance with the measures to be specified by the competent authorities specifying the types of such check-ups and the intervals in which they shall be carried out).

Any occupational disease that affects any employee at any plant or branch, when diagnosed and approved by the competent medical authority within 3 days of knowing the diagnosis result

8 Legal Focus Resolution of the Minister of Civil Service & Housing Affairs No. 19 of 2005 Article 2 (1) The employer shall perform periodic medical examinations of workers exposed to any of the occupational diseases (every 6 months): Chrome, nickel, carbon monoxide, cyanure acid, chlorine, bromine, ethylene, chloroform, sulfur, cadmium, barium, nitrite, niated navasline, dioxin, lead, arsenic, mercury, antimony, phospor, petroleum, manganese, occupational noise, spasms of hand and arms, varicose veins (legs), cancer of the urinary system, exposure to vibration, all diseases related to radiation / x-rays.

9 Legal Focus Resolution of the Minister of Civil Service & Housing Affairs No. 19 of 2005 Article 2 (2) The employer shall perform periodic medical examinations of workers exposed to any of the occupational diseases (once per year): Chromium, nickel, chlorine, ethylene, lead, arsenic, mercury, antimony, phospor, petroleum, manganese, skin cancer, dermatitis, eye infection due to temperature or light exposure.

10 Legal Focus Resolution of the Minister of Civil Service & Housing Affairs No. 20 of 2005 Article 4 The employer is obliged to inform his workers, prior to commencing the work, of the risks of work that they would exercise, and to enlighten them with all necessary requirements to avoid work accidents and injuries that may affect their health or safety, including the issue of detailed instructions in Arabic and other languages which the workers understand, along with a written commitment proving they have read and understood the said instructions.

11 Legal Focus Resolution of the Minister of Civil Service & Housing Affairs No. 20 of 2005 Article 5 The employer is obliged to supply the workers with protective clothing, tools and personal means such as gloves, caps, suits, boots, masks and other protective instruments; provided they are suitable for the nature of operations and type of risks the workers are subject to, and that the workers are trained to use them, and provision of safety methods to maintain, clean and sterilize them.

12 Legal Focus Resolution of the Minister of Civil Service & Housing Affairs No. 20 of 2005 Article 7 The employer is obliged to use warning signs, instructions and posters at the worksite, that are visible and be clearly seen, as a means of warning of all work risks.

13 Legal Focus Resolution of the Minister of Civil Service & Housing Affairs No. 20 of 2005 Article 8 The employer, or his representative, should set-up and keep, at all worksites, the following registers: A register for work accidents and injuries A register for sick workers with occupational diseases A register for sick workers with normal illnesses A register of primary medical examinations of workers subject to the stated occupational diseases A register of periodic medical examinations of workers subject to the stated occupational diseases

14 Legal Focus Resolution of the Minister of Civil Service & Housing Affairs No. 20 of 2005 Article 19 Special places should be set-up for industrial processes, equipments or instruments which emit or produce upon operation, dust, fumes or harmful gases, separate from the main worksite, and equipped with suitable vacuum and gathering devices.

15 Legal Focus Resolution of the Minister of Civil Service & Housing Affairs No. 20 of 2005 Article 20. The employer is also obliged to take all suitable precautions to protect workers from risks of pressure vessels, and compressed, liquefied and dissolved gases.

16 Legal Focus Resolution of the Minister of Civil Service & Housing Affairs No. 20 of 2005 Article 34 The fundamentals of sound storage should be taken into consideration when storing materials, equipment or instruments, while isolating hazardous materials in special stores, provided that indicative signs are displayed, showing the seriousness of the materials, its handling methods, and safe transportation.

17 Legal Focus Resolution of the Minister of Civil Service & Housing Affairs No. 20 of 2005 Article Commitment should be made towards spaces to be provided between sites containing flammable materials and other sites, determined by competent authorities. 11. Use of safe containers or tanks for storing and handling liquids, with limited amounts, determined by competent authorities, and stored in separate, designated stores.

18 Legal Focus Resolution of the Minister of Civil Service & Housing Affairs No. 20 of 2005 Article 54 The employer is obliged to take necessary precautions to protect the workers and the working environment against the risks of chemical materials, and their interactions, whether they be solid, liquid or gas, taking into consideration not to exceed the authorized limit of their concentration in the work environment.

19 Legal Focus Resolution of the Minister of Civil Service & Housing Affairs No. 20 of 2005 Article 55 Safe means of prevention should be taken to eliminate dust, fumes, gases and vapors and all other harmful materials when produced, and that is, by using vacuuming equipment, developing artificial ventilation systems, or by any other suitable engineering means.

20 Legal Focus Resolution of the Minister of Civil Service & Housing Affairs No. 20 of 2005 Article 56 The employer is obliged to take necessary precautions and measures to protect the workers from exposure to hazardous and deleterious materials, taking into consideration the use of any suitable engineering means to substitute the industrial and harmful raw materials.

21 Legal Focus Resolution of the Minister of Civil Service & Housing Affairs No. 20 of 2005 Article 57 The Labor inspector has the right of looking at commercial and scientific names of all chemicals and raw materials and all ancillaries used in the process, in order to determine the safety levels of hazardous and deleterious materials, and their composites, that are allowed to be present in the workplace.
