Done Slips and trips Staff and visitors may be injured if they trip over objects or slip on spillages. General good housekeeping. areas well lit, including stairs. No trailing leads or cables. Ask everyone to sit down at a table to elevate the risk of someone running into them while they are drinking. If people are known to be likely to spill their drink this will be identified as identified on the application form, drinks will be offered at a cooler temperature. Staff or volunteers in the kitchen will be made aware of the risks of steam/burns. Volunteers and staff in the kitchen will be asked to wear long sleeves. Ensure volunteers are reminded to keep safe in the kitchen. Ensure hot water signs are on display. Discuss with church if we can put stickers on items.. Ask visitors to stay out of the kitchen as drinks will be bought into the activity area. Burns and scolds notice displayed in the kitchen by the door into the hall. Aprons to be provided in the kitchen and all staff and volunteers need to wear one.

2 Eating and drinking Staff volunteers and visitors may get ill after consuming food and drink if contaminated with bacteria. Staff and volunteers keep food preparation areas clean. Follow good hygiene practices in hand washing. Remind volunteers of best practices in hand washing and food safety. Coloured food boards available. Make sure they have the right equipment and space to prepare food and drink and eliminate risk of cross contamination. Aprons to be provided in the kitchen. Bins must be emptied after use. Cleaning materials available. PPI is provided and volunteers need to ensure they inform sue Hudson when they are running low in order to restock this in good time. People with colds or illness must not enter the kitchen. Gas appliances. Staff volunteers or visitors could suffer injury or death if there is an explosion. Also if the appliance is not checked regularly they could inhale carbon monoxide which is hazardous to health. Check to see if a gas appliance is in use and switch it off prior to group starting. Check with hall provider and ensure any such equipment is turned off after use. or her delegate to double check this on entering the premises. 3 Electrical Staff volunteers and visitors could be injured or die as a result of electric shock. Check with hall provider what checks take place. Ensure location of fuse box is identified and ensure access is clear at all times. Advice volunteers to check equipment is safe to use before use. Report concerns immediately via the telephone or to the church office. Make sure volunteers know how to switch off electricity in an emergency. The fuse box is in the main hall, in the cupboard next to the first window, inside the cupboard is a door and behind the door is a fuse box. Turn off the red switch. Fill in on site accident form kept in the kitchen and a bee yourself accident form. National grid emergency telephone number Temperature Staff and volunteers may suffer ill health in hot conditions. If it gets hot open windows. Encourage staff volunteers and visitors to take breaks. Remind volunteers and visitors to drink water. Ensure people are aware they are responsible for the person they are supporting comfort and to make sure they drink, take breaks and check they are comfortable. Adults who require support Adults who need support may be at greater risk of injury harm or hazards identified in this risk assessment. Any adults attending who require extra support need to bring their Support worker/parent with them (at no extra cost). Act on any identified or increased risk. The carer is responsible for supervising the adult they are supporting all times. Our volunteers are C.R.B checked and have 2 references.

4 Contact with chemicals hazardous to health Volunteers and visitors may suffer skin damage through contact with cleaning products, by direct contact, while the product is in water or through mists which may cause breathing problems. Gloves to be worn by anyone using these materials. Cleaning equipment provided which promotes safety. Milder alternative products to be used. Staff and volunteers to be reminded how to use products safely. Where possible avoid using these products while adults who need supervision are in the room and if you need to do so advice their carer to observe their safety. Be aware that these products should be out of reach with the exception of soap. Coshh forms to be obtained and kept in case of emergency. Items stored under the sink in the kitchen. Soap and air freshener is stored in the bathroom. Manual handling Volunteers may suffer injury or pain from carrying or lifting objects. Ensure enough volunteers are available to help with any moving and handling task. Arrange moving and handling training for all volunteers. Ensure volunteers are fit to move tables Volunteers to inform of any problems, illness or pain.. Fire Volunteers and visitors may suffer from injury or death through smoke in halation or burns. Ensure hall is equipped with suitable fire extinguisher in kitchen and in the hall. Map of building shows all locations of extinguishers, fire exits. Push button alarms in place. Keep area safe from potential hazards. Identify fire exits and keep clear Continually check for any hazards. Ensure Volunteers and visitors know what action to take if there is a fire. Fire action signs are in place. Fire emergency evacuation policy in place. Fire alarms and checks done every Tuesday, you can find a record of this in the church office. Church are prepared to set off alarms so we can do a fire drill upon request.

5 Violence or threatening behavior Volunteers or visitors may suffer from abuse. Volunteers and visitors avoid confrontation Review C.R.B checks every 2 years Volunteers and visitors to report any incidence to Susan Hudson or in an emergency social services (tel ) or the police. Volunteers train in sova. Choking Volunteers of visitors might choke on food/items they put in their mouth Service users are supported by their support worker/ Carer, who need to ensure they are safe while eating and drinking at all times. To get a regular volunteer to train in save a life. Any problems with food to be identified in the application process and if problems with food or drink are identified the service user will be asked to bring their own food or if we provide food we will ensure it meets the individuals requirements. Volunteers will be aware of what to do in an emergency. Service users who may pick items up and eat them will need to have a carer with them to ensure they do not consume items that are dangerous.
