Our team consists of 4 GP partners, 6 associate GP s, two registrars and 4 practice nurses. We offer a full general practice service and run specialist clinics for children, pregnant women, diabetes, asthma sufferers and for patients needing minor surgery. Croydon Clinical Commissioning Group (Croydon CCG) on can be contacted for any services we do not offer. At Keston Medical Practice we aim to treat all our patients promptly, courteously and in complete confidence. We feel it is important you know who you are speaking to, so our receptionist staff wear a name badge and identify themselves on the telephone. Keston is a training practice. This means junior doctors wanting to enter into general practice spend up to a year with us in order to gain experience they need to become General Practitioners. As a training practice, your medical records may be used for educational purposes. This leaflet is for both existing patients and for patients considering registering with us. It explains about our services, how to access them and some general information about how our surgery operates. If you live in our practice area and would like to register, please complete one of our registration forms that are available from our reception. You will be allocated a named GP and be notified who this will be. However, you will be registering with the practice rather than an individual GP. Help for Carers formerly known as Crossroads Care Croydon Help for Carers was established in 1980 as a not for profit company. They provide relief from the stresses experienced by people who look after someone with a care need caused by disability, illness or age and need some home based support. Formerly known as Crossroads, they became Help for Carers on 31 March They provide a home-based respite service for the carers of older people, adults and children with physical or learning disabilities including palliative care. This service operates across the London Boroughs of Lambeth, Croydon, Merton, Sutton and Wandsworth. They offer a customised homecare (respite) service for people able to self-fund. In Croydon they offer carers events, advice, signposting, advocacy and a carers assessment service.. We have copies of Carers News and support literature which can be made available to you. You may also be entitled to additional medical services. Carers Trust Crossroads Care and The Princess Royal Trust for Carers have merged to form the leading carers charity Carers Trust. Carers Trust is a major new charity for, with and about carers. They work to improve support, services and recognition for anyone living with the challenges of caring, unpaid, for a family member or friend who is ill, frail, disabled or has mental health or addiction problems. Before you do, remember that you can treat many minor ailments such as colds, coughs and indigestion by keeping a well-stocked medicine cabinet at home. We suggest you keep the following: Paracetamol and aspirin (children under 16 and people with asthma should not take aspirin) Mild laxatives Anti-diarrhoea medicines Rehydration mixture Indigestion remedy (antacids) Travel sickness tablets Sunscreen SPF15 or higher Sunburn treatment (calamine) Tweezers and sharp scissors A thermometer A selection of plasters, non- absorbent cotton wool, elastic bandages and dressings. Remember Keep the medicine chest in a secure, locked place out of reach of small children. Always read the instructions and use the suggested dose Watch expiry dates don t keep or use medicines past their use by date. Many of the most serious diseases can be prevented by healthy lifestyle without the need for drugs. Please read the guidance below and if necessary ask the nurse or doctor for help and advice. Appointments are available throughout the week with specific GP s. Midwife clinic times and places can be obtained from our reception. Child health and immunisation Tuesday 2pm-4.00pm All new babies are invited for regular check-ups from eight weeks old. Minor surgery Incisions and Cryotherapy Minor operations can be done in our treatment room. Please discuss this with your doctor who will then arrange for you to be given an Led by our nursing team, these appointments are offered for advice and general health check-ups to patients diagnosed with diabetes. Led by Dr Syed. Asthma Asthma sufferers will be offered appointments for advice and support with our Nurses who specialise in asthma care. Travel Vaccinations This service is run by our nurse and is offered by appointment only. A travel form must be completed and these are available form our reception or can be downloaded from our website. These should be completed 6-8 weeks prior to travel. Diet A healthy diet not only helps to regulate weight but can reduce cholesterol and help prevent heart attacks. Exercise Regular exercise helps prevent heart disease as well as reducing weight and making you feel better. If you are overweight or out of shape ask for advice before starting vigorous exercise. Blood Pressure High blood pressure can in the long term increase the risk of heart attacks and strokes. Reducing blood pressure can reduce the risks. Treatment does not always require tablets. All adults should have their blood pressure checked every five years. Smoking Why give up? Over 100,000 people die each year in the UK from smoking-related diseases. Each cigarette you smoke can shorten your life by an average of five and a half minutes. Babies of smokers are, on average, 200 grammes smaller than those of non-smokers. How to give up Stopping smoking is all about motivation. Without the real desire to give up you ll be unable to succeed. You must want to give up rather than just feel you should give up. Set a date a week or so in the future when you intend to stop. Tell all your friends, relations and work colleagues that you are giving up on that day and ask for their support and encouragement. If at all possible, find someone to give up with you. When the big day comes, plan it carefully with plenty to keep you occupied. Avoid situations where the desire to smoke will be strongest, such as whilst drinking. Finally, put away the money you would have spent on cigarettes each day, to save up for some special treat as a reward. If you ve tried and failed but are still keen to give up, seek help from your doctor.

However, if you feel we have not dealt with the issues you have raised as you would wish, you can write to the Complaints Manager at NHS Croydon (address on the left). We take seriously any threatening, abusive or violent behaviour against any of our staff or patients. If a patient is violent or abusive, they will be warned to stop their behaviour. If they persist, we may exercise our right to take action to have them removed, immediately if necessary, from our list of patients.
