1 Medical Resources for Nevadans in Need Annual Report CARE Chest is a Northern Nevada non-profit agency serving individuals in need by providing medical resources, free of charge.

2 A Letter From Our Board President Through the generosity of our community, CARE Chest served more people in 2017 than in any year in our history. As access to healthcare in Northern Nevada continues to change, CARE Chest remains a vital resource for local families. Whether facing an unexpected diagnosis, a disability, or taking on the task of caring for a loved one, CARE Chest offers all of its clients a warm welcome and the medical equipment, supplies, and resources that they need. In 2017, we distributed 22,295 items to 13,727 clients. Our Durable Medical Equipment program is still our largest, putting equipment into the hands of more than 4,000 local families last year. As the demand for our programs has increased, community donations of medical equipment and supplies have risen and allowed us to meet this demand. Over the last years, we have also seen significant growth in our Medical Nutrition and Diabetic Supplies programs. We added a full-time Wellness Coordinator, expanding the staffing of our Wellness Education program and increasing client interaction about these opportunities. Compared to 2016, we more than doubled the number of clients attending wellness classes at CARE Chest. We also began participating as a referring partner in the Prescription Pantry program which provides our clients access to condition-specific food from the Food Bank of Northern Nevada. After 26 years of service as Executive Director of CARE Chest, Patti Meals announced her retirement. Patti has guided the organization from serving just over 300 clients in her first year to over 13,000 in Patti s commitment to our mission and her strong relationships in the community have allowed CARE Chest to truly blossom. 4 CARE When it is Most Needed Denise Ciccotti is diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, an unpredictable, often disabling disease of the central nervous system that disrupts the flow of information within the brain, and between the brain and body. While treatments are advancing, it is currently considered a chronic, progressive disorder that gets increasingly debilitating with time. Denise first came to CARE Chest in 2016 to obtain mobility equipment to make her wheelchair more comfortable. A few months later, we were able to help provide her with supplies to make her bathroom safer and easier to use. She has turned to CARE Chest seven times in the last few years. As her disease progresses, she rests assured knowing that CARE Chest will be there to help her with each change along the way. From new wheelchairs to four-wheeled walkers, bathing safety equipment and sanitary supplies, CARE Chest has managed to provide support and warmth to Denise when she most needs it.

5 Jackie Read: A Legacy with CARE Chest CARE Chest would like to remember Jackie Read, a long-time supporter, volunteer, employee, and donor to CARE Chest. While Jackie passed on in 2017, she left a lasting legacy at CARE Chest through her estate gift to the organization. She volunteered with CARE Chest for more than 15 years, well into her seventies. Jackie s final gift will help nearly a hundred local families, and her legacy will live on within the CARE Chest family.
