1 Maya S. Suresh, M.D. Dr. Maya S. Suresh is the Interim Chairman, Professor of Anesthesiology, Baylor College of Medicine, and the Division Chief of Obstetric and Gynecologic Anesthesiology at Ben Taub General Hospital. She is a graduate of Gandhi Medical College, Osmania University, Hyderabad, India. Dr. Suresh completed an anesthesiology residency at Medical College of Virginia, an Obstetric Anesthesia Fellowship and completed Pediatric anesthesia subspecialty training at Boston Lying-In Hospital and Boston Children s Hospital respectively. She has served as an examiner for the American Board of Anesthesiologists. She initiated and started a fellowship program in obstetric anesthesia in 1994 and received Texas State Board approval. She serves on the Board of Directors and the Education Committee of the Society of Airway Management and the Texas Society of Anesthesiologists Economics Committee. Dr. Suresh served as the Director of Obstetric Anesthesia at the University of Texas Medical Branch, Galveston, Texas from Dr. Suresh received an award for Eleven Years of Outstanding Resident Education. In 1991, Dr. Suresh joined the Department of Anesthesia, Baylor College of Medicine, as the Director and Service Chief of Obstetric Anesthesia, and has been with Baylor and Harris County Hospital District for the past 16 years. She continues to lead a stable division which comprises of seven soon to be eight fellowship trained and board certified anesthesiologists. The residents have consistently ranked obstetric anesthesia at the top for their education experience. Dr. Suresh has been the Program Director for the Continuing Medical Education course Texas Anesthesia Conference for Obstetrics since 1991, and the Difficult Airway Management since Dr. Suresh is a national and international speaker and she is also well published. She has received the Golden Apple Awards for excellence in teaching in obstetric anesthesia. She has received awards for excellence in research. In January of 2006 she received, The Most Distinguished Anesthesiologist Award presented by the Association of Perioperative Registered Nurses of Greater Houston. Also in 2006, Dr. Suresh was the recipient of the Mentor Award given by the Baylor College of Medicine anesthesiology residents. Dr. Suresh has received the following Honors and Awards: Second Prize for Poster Presentation at the SOAP Annual Meeting 1989 SOAP abstract was selected as One of the Top Ten Papers in 1990 Eleven Years of Outstanding Resident Education awarded by the University of Texas Medical Branch Anesthesia residents, James F. Arens, M.D., Chairman, 1991 Gertie F. Marx Award for Excellence in Obstetrical Research at the SOAP Annual Meeting 1994
