Introduction Transfusion medicine, relatively new branch of medicine, has evolved rapidly in recent years thanks to: improvement in knowledge on spread of infections transmissible by blood transfusion (TTI), notably HIV; Hepatitis viruses; New transfusion techniques and pratices; Awareness of risks associated with transfusion.
Introduction(continued) In spite of these advances, teaching curricula and training in this field are still underdeveloped in Africa.
Introduction(continued) In DRC, the findings are: Absence of a structured program in transfusion medicine in the curricula of medical schools and in institutes of higher education and universities; Diversity and increased number of partners for technical support in education; Teaching program and contents more theoretical than practical; Few teaching materials; Unqualified supervisors and trainers
Problem of the teaching curriculum in transfusion medicine Faced with this situation, the question was to find out : «What are the contents of the teaching provided in the country in Blood safety or in Transfusion medicine?»
Objectives General: To contribute to the improvement in the quality of blood transfusion practice in DRC Specific To analyse the contents of training and teaching materials in transfusion medicine To harmonise the contents of teaching in transfusion medicine in DRC.
Materials and method Type of study : Descriptive Period : October to November Method: 10 training and teaching materials in transfusion medicine were analysed. Parameters : Contents of the training, Duration of the training, Targets of the training, Qualification awarded following the training

Results Of 10 teaching materials examined: 7 have similar contents, 3 have different contents, by : Their volume of contents to teach, The time allocated for their teaching, Their methodology and type of teaching. No complete and structured content was found in the curriculum of medical, secondary, higher or university education

Discussion From the above it emerges that: The diversity of training materials and teaching programs do not promote transfusion practice; Knowledge and practices in the subject are fragmentary and heterogenous; Risks of transfusion-related adverse events would therefore be increased; Staff trained under these conditions are not qualified and not competent to ensure blood safety or to offer quality services.
Conclusion Everything needs to be defined: the pedagogic objectives the place of blood transfusion safety in the curricula of medical studies ( IEM; ISTM, faculty of Medicine) the need for a structured program for teaching of interns; residents, The continuous training of staff who are already employed; It is indispensable and urgent to introduce the teaching of transfusion medicine in the programs of universities providing courses in Medicine
Conclusion (continued) Discussion should take place on the teaching of immunohaematology. It would be imperative at the country level to harmonise the contents of training materials and of the programs to reduce variation in the teaching contents, to think of developing a single content for transfusion medicine.
