3 Position Details and Minimum Qualifications Parks and Facilities Park Weeder: Employed May to August. Paying $11.25/hr, 40 hours/week. Typical duties: Include but are not limited to Weeding all Town flower beds, tree circles, and some flower bed planting. Must be able to work alone and have a valid class 5 driver s licence. Experience is an asset. Student Labourers: Employed May to August. Paying $11.25/hr, 40 hours/week. Maintenance and operational duties within the scope of the Parks Department and its respective facilities. Typical duties: General maintenance tasks to include but not be limited to: garbage pickup and litter control, general repairs, painting, general labor activities, general carpentry work, the knowledge of operation and use of small equipment i.e.: whipper snipper, push mowers, shovels, traffic control (flag person), grass cutting and other labor related tasks as assigned. Minimum requirements: must possess a valid driver s license; must have regulation approved safety boots; must have been a full time student in the preceding academic year and plan to return to school on a full time basis in the upcoming school year; must be able to do physical outdoor labor work. Two additional students for July and August (normally grade 12 grads going to post-secondary school). Minimum requirements: must have a minimum of a valid class 5 drivers licence, a clear criminal record check, must have regulation approved safety boots. Student will be required to sign a declaration of availability and a student declaration stating that they are a full time student and will be a full time student in the fall. Landscape and maintenance experience are an asset. It is highly recommended that students sign up for the Province of New Brunswick SEED Program. Public Works Student Labourers: Employed May to August. Paying $11.25/hr, 40 hours/week. Maintenance and operational duties within the scope of the Public Works Department and its respective facilities. Tourism Sackville Visitor Information Centre Supervisor: Employed late April to September. Work days, evenings, weekends and holidays. Paying $12.25 per hour, 37.5 hours per week. The VIC Supervisor will lead staff in providing excellent front-line service to visitors. The supervisor is accountable for summer staff supervision and the day-to-day operation of the Sackville Visitor Information Centre and Waterfowl Park tours, under the supervision of the Town of Sackville Tourism Manager. Typical Duties: Daily supervision of the staff at the Visitor Information Centre and Waterfowl Park; coaching, motivating and on-going training of the staff; coordinate a regional familiarization tour for the staff; assist with province-wide and in-town brochure distribution; create work schedules and complete payroll forms on a bi-weekly basis; travel counseling in person, by telephone and ; coordinate visitor information packages in response to inquiries; compile daily and monthly visitor stats; maintain cleanliness of the center; participate in off-site events and activities such as Waterfowl Park Tours, manning Downtown Information Kiosk, etc.; process of cash sales of promotional items sold at the center, e.g. pins, shirts, etc.; maintain literature stock; light labour including: flower plantings, installing signs, garbage pick-up; other duties as requested by the Department of Tourism and Business Development. Minimum requirements: Enthusiasm, friendliness, team work, flexibility, professionalism, experience in a supervisory capacity, experience in problem solving, driver s license, student: a full-time student during the preceding academic year and will be returning to school full-time in the upcoming academic year. Travel Counselor: May to September. Work days, evenings, weekends and holidays. Paying $11.25 per hour, 35 hours per week. The Travel Counsellor, as a font-line staff member, is responsible for creating an excellent first impression for visitors to Sackville. The Counsellor will exhibit strong customer service skills providing visitors with quality, friendly, well-delivered information to meet their needs, using literature and other information available.

4 Typical Duties: Counsel visitors in person, by telephone and ; work well with a team of co-workers, sharing duties and responsibilities; assist with province-wide brochure distribution; assist with in-town brochure distribution; assist the Department of Tourism with special projects when required; coordinate visitor information packages in response to inquiries; assist with daily and monthly visitor stats, maintain cleanliness of the center, participate in off-site events and activities such as Waterfowl Park Tours, manning Sackville display booth, etc.; process of cash sales of promotional items sold at the center, e.g. pins, shirts, etc.; maintain literature stock; assist in the coordination of activities at Canada Day, New Brunswick Day and Wetlands Adventure events; light labour including: flower plantings, installing signs, garbage pick-up; other duties as requested by the Tourism Department. Minimum requirements: Enthusiasm, friendliness, team work, flexibility, student: a full-time student during the preceding academic year and will be returning to school full-time in the upcoming academic year, bilingual (English and French). Sackville Waterfowl Park Guide / Travel Counsellor: May to September or late June to September. Work days, nights, weekends and holidays. Paying $11.25 per hour, 35 hours per week. This position combines two functions with the primary role relating to the Waterfowl Park. The Waterfowl Park Guide provides scheduled and on-demand tours of the park to large and small groups, giving the visitors a satisfying, interesting and educational experience. The Guide is also responsible for signage and research programs. The Travel Counsellor, as a font-line staff member, is responsible for creating an excellent first impression for visitors to Sackville. The Counsellor will exhibit strong customer service skills providing visitors with quality, friendly, well-delivered information to meet their needs, using literature and other information available. Typical Duties: Providing guided tours of the Waterfowl Park visiting schools, bus tours, and visitors. The tour consists of a 1.5 hour walk through the park describing flora and fauna, wetland eco-systems and natural and human heritage of the area. Provide interpretation for visitors to the Wetlands Display at the Information Centre. Install and repair signage in the Park. Litter clean-up in the Park. Maintaining an accurate tour log. Processing Waterfowl Park tour revenues. Photography of tours. Develop and update a daily recent sightings list including updates to the Waterfowl Park section on Possibly develop Park blog. Work well with a team of co-workers, sharing duties and responsibilities. Assist the Department Tourism and Business Development with special projects when required. Assist with daily and monthly visitor stats. Maintain cleanliness of the center. Participate in off-site events and activities such as puppet shows. Process of cash sales of promotional items sold at the center, e.g. pins, shirts, etc. Assist in the coordination of activities at Canada Day and New Brunswick Day events. Light labour including: flower plantings, installing signs, garbage pick-up. Other duties as requested by the TBD Department. Minimum requirements: Enthusiasm; friendly and outgoing nature, team worker; flexibility; student: a full-time student during the preceding academic year and will return to school full-time in the upcoming academic year; strong knowledge of local wetland flora and fauna; bilingualism an asset. Head Waterfowl Park Guide/Travel Counselor: Late April to September, Work days, nights, weekends and holidays Paying $12.25/hr, 35 hours/week. Duties and minimum requirements as described in the Waterfowl Park Guide position above, and in addition: supervision of other Waterfowl Park guides, responsible for insuring that all required on-site (in Park) work is done and maintaining accurate records of work. Also responsible for creating and supervising programs and additional projects and activities to make the best use of the guides time. Tourism Maintenance: Late April to September. Work days, weekends and holidays. Paying $11.25 per hour, 35 hours per week. The Tourism Maintenance staff member will be responsible for maintaining a tidy Visitor Information Centre building, on the interior and exterior. The goal of this staff person s work is to impress on visitors that Sackville Tourism has a clean and well-presented visitor centre, as well as to ensure a comfortable and healthy working environment for staff. Typical Duties: Weekly mowing of the grass on the Visitor Information Centre property; occasionally assist with mowing at public parks; daily cleaning of the building interior including washing floors, vacuuming, dusting; miscellaneous repairs (e.g. ceiling tiles, paint touch-ups), weeding, mulching and fertilizing outdoor plantings; assist with monthly safety inspections of the Visitor Centre; Maintain stock of cleaning supplies; provide assistance to Parks & Recreation staff where needed with labour/repair work conducted in the Waterfowl Park; assist with maintenance/labour on other Town projects where needed. Minimum requirements: Familiarity with maintenance and yard work, especially weeding. Able to work well with and without supervision, follow directions, keep good records of work. Shows initiative. A full-time student during the preceding Recreation, Programs and Events Summer Programme Coordinator: May to September. Work days, evenings, weekends and holidays. Paying $12.25 per hour, 40 hours per week. This position focuses on programme coordination and supervision of three Park Program staff. The Programme Coordinator is responsible for creating and managing programmes that take place at parks in Sackville, including the Bill Johnstone Memorial Park, the Waterfowl Park, other parks and facilities, and Downtown Sackville, and for supervising three other students who will assist with creating and delivering programs. This position is still new, so responsibilities may change. Typical Duties: Creating, coordinating and running activities for various groups (eg. seniors, children) in the Town Parks, and in other facilities and locations in the Town; coordinating events for Canada Day, New Brunswick Day and Wetlands Adventure events; coordinating the Concerts in the Park Series; assisting the RPE Department and other Town departments with special projects when required; work well with a team of co-workers, sharing duties and responsibilities; other duties as requested by the RPE Department. Minimum requirements: Enthusiasm, friendliness, team work, flexibility, programming experience, experience working with children and other groups, student: a full-time student during the preceding academic year and who will return to school full-time in the upcoming academic year.

5 Park Programme Staff: Late June to September. Work days, evenings, weekends and holidays. Paying $11.25 per hour, 35 hours per week. This position focuses on running programs that take place at Parks in Sackville, including the Bill Johnstone Memorial Park, the Waterfowl Park, other parks and facilities, and Downtown Sackville, under the supervision of the Summer Program Coordinator. These positions are new, so responsibilities may change. Typical Duties: Assisting with creating and running activities for various groups (eg. seniors, children) in the Town Parks, and in other facilities and locations in the Town; assist the RPE Department and other Town departments with special projects when required; work well with a team of coworkers, sharing duties and responsibilities; other duties as requested by the RPE Department. Minimum requirements: Enthusiasm, friendliness, team work, flexibility, experience working with children and other groups; student: a full-time student during the preceding Head Lifeguard: June 23 September 1, Work days, evenings, weekends and holidays. Paying $12.25 per hour, 40 hours per week. The Head Lifeguard is responsible for ensuring the safety of patrons at Lillas Fawcett Park by preventing and responding to waterfront emergencies. Responsibility for coordinating the activities of the Lifeguards. This position reports to the Town of Sackville Programs & Events Coordinator. Typical Duties: Provide waterfront safety services; maintain constant surveillance of patrons at Lillas Fawcett Park; acting immediately and appropriately to secure safety of patrons in the event of an emergency; coordinate the day-to-day activities and work schedules of the Lifeguards; coordinate provision of activities and children s programmes, including teaching swimming tips; responsible for the availability and safekeeping of emergency rescue equipment; coordinate the preparation and maintenance of daily activity reports; provide water rescue and first aid care and treatment as required until the arrival of emergency medical services; inform the public of safety issues and ensure that safe waterfront practices are upheld; perform various maintenance duties as directed to maintain a clean and safe facility; present a professional appearance and attitude at all times, and maintain a high standard of customer service; perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned. Minimum requirements: National Lifeguard Service Certificate; knowledge of CPR and First Aid procedures; ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations; leadership skills; reliability and responsibility; flexibility; a strong level of physical fitness; ability to work independently with limited supervision; student: a full-time student during the preceding Lifeguard: June 23 September 1, Work days, evenings, weekends and holidays. Skateboard Park Leader: 8 weeks July to August. Average 20 hours a week. May require evenings and weekends. Paying $11.25/hour. The Sackville Skate Park Leader will work to increase youth participation in skateboarding at the Sackville Skate Park, through designing and offering activities at the park, encouraging new participation through promotion of the park, and maintaining a presence in the park to help create a safe and positive experience for youth at the Sackville Skate Park. Duties: Prepare and organize a summer program of diversified activities suited to a range of skill and interests of Skate Park users; develop and distribute through media, flyers, etc, information on the park and activities planned; ensure that the Skate Park is supervised during prescribed times; promote and ensure a safe environment for recreation at the Skate Park; maintain and provide daily and weekly reports and records, including stats, equipment inspection reports, incident reports, etc.; be properly dressed during the period of employment (staff shirt supplied); facilitate the operation of physical activity or projects when requested; act as an ambassador for the Town of Sackville. Minimum requirements: Some training will be provided to assist the successful candidate in being a park leader, e.g. First Aid, Leadership training. Some level of skateboarding skill is a must, as well as ability to work with and without supervision, leadership skills. Student: a full-time student during the preceding Extreme Bike Park Leader: 8 weeks July to August. Average 20 hours a week. May require evenings and weekends, $11.25/hour. The Sackville Extreme Bike Park Leader will work to increase youth participation in using the Sackville Extreme Bike Skate, through designing and offering activities at the park, encouraging new participation through promotion of the park, and maintaining a presence in the park to help create a safe and positive experience for youth at the Sackville Extreme Bike Park.
