Employment Trends SE England - July 2013
Contents 1Did you know...? (introduction)...p.3 2County/City ranking...p.4 3 Jobs per jobseeker...p.5 4Focus on Guildford...p.6 5ocus on Brighton & Hove...p.6 6 Metadata and sources...p.7 7About JobisJob white papers...p.8 8Annex: Data tables (Excel spreadsheets)...att. 2...
Did you know...?...reading has 250% times more job opportunities than other towns/ cities in the region....guildford offers a wealth of professional job opportunities....brighton and Hove s strongest sector is IT and telecommunications....surrey has a job opening for each jobseeker....the Isle of Wight has six times fewer employment opportunities than other counties in SE England. 3...
County/city ranking New job offers each week per 1,000 residents County Rank Surrey, seat of regional governmental activity, ranks highest. East Sussex, home to largest city Brighton and Hove, is lowest on the mainland, with the Isle of Wight falling considerably behind all other counties. 1. Surrey 2. Berkshire 3. Oxfordshire 4. Buckinghamshire 5. Hampshire 6. West Sussex 7. Kent 8. East Sussex 9. Isle of Wight City Rank Of the ten largest settlements, Reading comes top by a long way. Surprisingly, other large cities such as Guildford and Brighton and Hove come far behind. 1. Reading (25) 2. Oxford (10) 3. Guildford (9) 4. Southampton (8) 5. Milton Keynes (8) 6. Portsmouth (5) 7. Brighton&Hove (4) 8. Winchester (3) 9. Chichester (3) 10. Canterbury (1) 4...
Jobseekers per job Number of jobseekers going after each opening Isle of Wight (40) East Sussex (6) Kent (6) West Sussex (3) Hampshire (3) Buckinghamshire (3) Berkshire (2) Oxfordshire (1) Surrey (1) The most striking aspect of this data is the difference between the Isle of Wight, which has over six times more jobseekers going after each job advert, and the mainland. Within the mainland, Surrey, Governmental capital of the region, has the greatest proportion of openings, with a job available for every jobseeker. Oxfordshire is similarly prosperous, and the rest of the counties in the South East of England also have very low unemployment rates when compared to quantities of job opportunities available. 5...
Focus on Guildford Top sectors 1. IT - telecommunications (23%) 2. Sales (12%) 3. Finance (10%) Top job titles 1. Development manager 2. Sales executive 3. Project manager Administrative capital of the region Guildford clearly has a very strong IT/ telecommunications sector - not surprising, with top businesses like Electronic Arts and Ericsson having chosen to make the city their home. Sales and Finance are also relatively strong. In reflection of this, various white-collar professions are listed as the city s top job titles. F ocus on Brighton & Hove Top sectors 1. IT - telecommunications (21%) 2. Sales (15%) 3. Health (6%) Top job titles 1. Sales executive 2. Business analyst 3. Cleaner The hub of the West Midlands Despite being known for a dearth of creative jobs, the top sectors in Brighton and Hove are actually IT/telecommunications, Sales and Health. Top job titles recommend a strong sales sector, as well as a greater diversity of working roles than Guildford. 6...
Metadata Results have been collected from the JobisJob databases from the last year - Q to Q A total sample size of 16,000,000 job offers has been used to compile this report. Population sizes have been taken from the 2011 national census. Populations of cities have been taken as the population of the relevant local authority. The number of jobseekers is defined by the UK claimant count, May 2013 edition. Bear in mind that City rank ranks the eight largest cities in the region (along with Reading and Milton Keynes), rather than the cities with the greatest quantity of job offers. Figures within this report have been rounded up in many cases. For exact figures, please request data tables. 7...
JobisJob white papers JobisJob is a job aggregator. This means we collect offers from all the major job boards in the UK market and collate them within our pages. We currently feature around one million job offers on our website, from a total of some fifty million which have passed through our hands over the last five years. As such, we feel we are excellently positioned to provide this kind of information about the market. Furthermore, our stringent quality control policy means results of our findings are unlikely to be severely contaminated by spam offers or offers which have been repeated or misplaced. We are currently rated as one of the top ten UK job websites by Hitwise, and many of the job boards who are our clients also feature in top positions.
