About SOMA SOMA is the initiative of a group of artists who, building on the experiences of the artist run spaces La Panadería and Temistocles 44, have joined forces and created a unique platform within the cultural scene of Mexico City. SOMA consists of four parts: - A program for the professional education of artists - A forum for conferences, discussions and weekly events - A residency program for national and international artists - A summer program for visual artists and curators conducted in English Residency programme and support The residency set up in collaboration with Iaspis is open to Swedish-based professional visual artists and consists of a three-month working period devoted to developing one s own practice. The development of specific projects is not required during the residency. However, the resident will be required to collaborate with SOMA in the review of at least 15 portfolios of art students from SOMA s Academic Program. Also s/he is also expected to participate in SOMA s Public Program that takes place every Wednesday. This program consists in a series of talks or presentations open to the public in which specialists from different disciplines talk about their practice. SOMA is located in the neighbourhood of Col. San Pedro de los Pinos in Mexico City. The Iaspis resident will stay at the SOMA annex located nearby in Col. Escandon, Mexico City. The SOMA annex offers individual living space in the form of a small house with two bedrooms, one bathroom and a kitchen, as well as a personal studio. In addition, the resident has access to all other SOMA building facilities. SOMA offers no production workshops of any kind but, if necessary, SOMA can assist in finding available options to satisfy specific project needs and/or other desired resident activities. SOMA cannot cover any expenses related to such extra workshops.

2 SOMA will use their best efforts to help the resident establish new networks by introducing the resident to curators, critics, artists and other relevant professionals known to them. SOMA will to a reasonable extent be available for the resident throughout the entire stay if the resident has questions or needs help or guidance and will make sure to brief the resident about the local cultural context and share with the resident any need to know information. SOMA reserves the right to invite the resident to participate in its general program for activities such as talks, one-on-one critiques, classes or open studios. This possibility will be discussed in a case-by-case basis and will only take place if both parties reach an agreement. The resident is welcome to stay at SOMA with their partner and/or family. The selected applicant must notify if they wish to make use of this option when confirming their participation. Any additional costs will be paid by the resident. Things to think about before you fill out the form The Visual Arts Fund s delegation for Iaspis will draw up a shortlist of candidates. The management of SOMA will then make the final selection of the grant holder. You apply with your e legitimation (Swedish electronic identification) on or on the appropriate paper form. Applications must be complete. The Swedish Arts Grants Committee will not accept complementary additions. Work samples Your application must include 5 10 work samples of representative works made in the last two years. If you apply digitally, upload your work samples at the end of the application process. For information about which file formats you can use and the dimensions of the work samples, please see If you apply on paper format, your work samples must fit a standing A4 sheet (paper applications with work samples will be scanned and made available in digital format for the examiners). State year of production, title, technique and dimensions for each work. Please remember to write your name and national identification number on your appendices. Please do not append further materials such as catalogues, sketches, etc. Work samples will not be returned. The material will be scanned and made available in digital format for the examiners. Thus, it is important that the work samples fit into a standing A4 sheet. Do not use tape or staples. Conditions I am aware that the Swedish Arts Grants Committee s grants and allowances are for professionally active artists. I will not be an undergraduate student at an artistic college during the grant period. I certify that I am a permanent resident of Sweden and/or have my main artistic activities in Sweden.
