NY-BEST invites students, faculty members, researchers and companies to submit posters describing their recent research in the energy storage field at the NY-BEST Energy Storage Technology Conference. We invite research posters on different batteries and battery types, fuel cells, ultracapacitors, and other energy storage technologies. Posters may address any aspect of the field from basic materials and components research to systems, manufacturing, and reuse. 2 National Endowment for the Humanities Summer Stipends Internal Deadline: August 15, 2016 Funding Level: Summer Stipends provide $6,000 for two consecutive months of full-time research and writing. Synopsis: Summer Stipends support individuals pursuing advanced research that is of value to humanities scholars, general audiences, or both. Recipients usually produce articles, monographs, books, digital materials, archaeological site reports, translations, editions, or other scholarly resources. NEH invites projects related to its new initiative, The Common Good: The Humanities in the Public Square. This initiative seeks to connect the study of the humanities to the current conditions of national life. Many of today s challenges require more than ever the forms of understanding and knowledge represented by the humanities. They require the broadest possible engagement of scholars and the public with the resources of the humanities, including but not limited to the study of language, literature, history, philosophy, comparative religion, and ethics. The study of the humanities can help illuminate the complexity of many contemporary challenges while enriching our understanding of the common good. Eligibility: The Summer Stipends program accepts applications from researchers, teachers, and writers, whether they have an institutional affiliation or not. Applicants with college or university affiliations must, however, be nominated by their institutions. Faculty members teaching full-time at colleges or universities must be nominated by their institutions to apply for a Summer Stipend. Once faculty members are nominated by their institutions, they may submit their applications via Grants.gov. Each college and university in the United States and its jurisdictions may nominate two (2) faculty members. Any faculty member is eligible for nomination. *Only individual applicants are eligible to apply for Summer Stipends. Damon Runyon Cancer Research Foundation Clinical Investigator Award Internal Deadline: September 2, 2016, UR Chosen Internal Nominee Notified by: September 23, 2016 Funding: (funding & duration): $450,000 over 3 years (The Foundation will also retire up to $100,000 of any medical school debt still owed by the awardee.) Synopsis: The Clinical Investigator Award program is specifically intended to provide outstanding young physicians with the resources and training structure essential to becoming successful clinical investigators. The goal is to increase the number of physicians capable of moving seamlessly between the laboratory and the patient s bedside in search of breakthrough treatments. Candidates are required to apply in conjunction with a Mentor who is established in the field of clinical translational cancer research, cancer prevention and/or epidemiology and can provide the critical guidance needed during the period of the award. Preference will be given to research that adheres to the Handshake Rule, meaning that the physician will conduct research studies that directly involve patients.

3 Eligibility Notes: must be a U.S. citizen or permanent legal resident; nominated by his/her institution; have received an MD or MD/PhD degree(s) from an accredited institution, completed his/her subspecialty training and be U.S. board-eligible; hold a valid, active U.S. medical license; apply within the first four (4) years of his/her initial full faculty appointment(cut-off July 2013); commit to spending 80% of their time conducting research. External Funding Department of Energy DOE Early Career Research Program DE-FOA Deadlines: Pre-application: (REQUIRED) September 08, 2016 Encourage/Discourage Date: 10/06/2016 at 5 PM EST; Application Due Date: 11/14/2016 at 5 PM EST Funding: $750,000 over 5 years Synopsis: The purpose of this program is to support the development of individual research programs of outstanding scientists early in their careers and to stimulate research careers in the areas supported by the DOE Office of Science. The Office of Science of the DOE invites grant applications for support under the Early Career Research Program in the following program areas: Advanced Scientific Computing Research (ASCR); Biological and Environmental Research (BER); Basic Energy Sciences (BES); Fusion Energy Sciences (FES); High Energy Physics (HEP); Nuclear Physics (NP). Eligibility: Must be an untenured Assistant Professor on the tenure track or an untenured Associate Professor on the tenure track at a U.S. academic institution as of the deadline for the application. No more than ten (10) years from the PhD. For the present competition, those who received doctorates no earlier than 2006 are eligible. 4 Funding: The Prize amount is $100,000, to be used as the awardee chooses Synopsis: Nominations are being broadly solicited by the Foundation of the NIH. Nomination may be made by any member of an accredited educational and/or scientific institution. There is no limitation on the number of nominations that may be made by a single nominator or institution. No institutional approval is required. In 2017, the Foundation for the National Institutes of Health (FNIH) will present the fifth annual Lurie Prize, an award recognizing outstanding achievement by a promising young scientist in biomedical research. The Prize amount is $100,000, to be used as the awardee chooses. Nominations are requested for outstanding young biomedical investigators, who must be 52 years of age or younger as of January 1, The nomination is not onerous and calls for: 1.The candidate s name, title, institution, birthdate, earned degrees, and contact information (mailing address, telephone number, address). 2.The nominator s name, title, institution, terminal degree(s), and contact information (mailing address, telephone number, address). 3.A 50 word citation of the basis for nomination. 4.A 250 word description of the candidate s contributions. 5.The candidate's curriculum vitae (CV) including no more than 10 citations of publications on which the nomination is based. Environmental Protection Agency Campus RainWorks Challenge Key Dates: Registration: September 1 30, 2016; Deadline for Entries: December 16, 2016 Funding: first place team in each design category will receive a student prize of $2,000 to be divided evenly among the team and a faculty prize of $3,000. The second place team in each category will receive a student prize of $1,000 to be divided evenly among the team and a faculty prize of $2,000. Synopsis: EPA prize competition that asks student teams to design green infrastructure for their campus. Student teams design an innovative green infrastructure project for their campus that effectively manages stormwater runoff while benefitting the campus community and the environment. Two design categories: Master Plan and Demonstration Project and New this year: Include community engagement as part of your project design. * Student teams with faculty sponsors that meet all eligibility requirements in the 2016 Campus RainWorks Challenge Competition Brief.
