5 2. ABOUT GERIC GERIC is a Centre of Excellence for Entrepreneurship Research and Innovation in UMK. In addition to the Global Entrepreneurship Research, the Centre is involved in human capital development through a joint PhDs or split-site PhDs and post doctoral research; entrepreneurship consultancy and training; support to social innovation and entrepreneurship projects as well as educational outreach activities. It also includes organization of public conferences and research publication. The Centre also acts as a think tank on crucial economic and entrepreneurship issues. GERIC brings together world-leading researchers to work in multidisciplinary teams on real-world issues. We are scientist, social scientist and entrepreneur coaches whose work is underpinned by scientific rigor, technological expertise, industry connections and community engagement. We are driven by a shared vision: Great research for entrepreneurship endeavor. 5

16 Tier 1: Icon Projects led by Champion Icon project will be inclusive, large-scale and have significant impact. Projects will be merit selected by the Executive. Icon Projects will be led by the best researchers in the center. They will be developed with performance indicators such as: 1. Multidisciplinary or transdisciplinarity (LRGS, PRGS, TRGS, NRGS); 2. Building partnerships; 3. External funding; 4. Engaging many GERIC researchers; 5. Multiple research outputs; 6. Industry and community engagement; 7. Industry and community profile; 8. Scale, focus and impact; and 9. Quality and quantity of research. 16

17 Tier 2: Key Researchers leading Focused Research Projects Tier-2 research projects are the mainstay of university research and have the following characteristics: 1. Usually the research of our senior members; 2. Well funded (FRGS, ERGS, etc,) 3. Focused on specific topic or area; 4. Undertaken by a small group or an individual with external partners; 5. Produce many quality research outputs; 6. Produce quality research students and support junior research fellows; and 7. May be part of an ongoing research program that last many years. 17

18 Tier 3: Small-scale, pilot or student research Tier-3 research is small scale research, including contract research, consultancies and training services. It has the following characteristics: 1. Small-scale (SGPG, RAGS); 2. Produces a limited number of publications; 3. Mostly funded by public sector grants, industry and international research income; 4. Includes pilot and non-core research; 5. Can have significant impact as individual pieces of research; 6. Often only last for a short period; and 7. may lead to tier-2 projects. 18

19 2. Consultancy and Training Unit GERIC aim to run consultancy and training services for entrepreneur under the underpinnings of government and industries. A significant amount (about 30%) of our activities will be focusing of servicing the entrepreneur and become the think-thank for the government and the industries. 19

32 Foundation Programs GERIC is managed by executive group chaired by the Director. The executive has permanent members with defined responsibilities and also includes the champions of GERIC icon Projects. The executive represent and champion GERIC both internally and externally. It s provide an integrated educational experience where the student will be supervised by two experts and to have access to two research environments for the benefit of the research from two institutions. Identify development needs to promote split-site PhD, postdoctoral and attachment program at GERIC; Build on our international relationships to enhance joint-postgraduate student opportunities (e.g. with Babson, etc.) Allocate internal funding for post-doctorate position to entice international participation and enhance research and publication. Extend the opportunities for undergraduates to work with academic staff on research projects with high-quality outcomes; Enhance the support, development and opportunities for early career researchers and those in training, including expansion of activities such as the Research development program and research forum 41
