2 ABOUT THE MEETING Regional development is key to unlocking Africa s potential for energy investment. The East Africa Festival of Energy is a two-day business conference designed to bring together the nations of East Africa- Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda and Burundi, as their governments seek energy and infrastructure projects requiring investment. The two-day event will be followed by a half-day Festival of Energy concert, showcasing offgrid technologies alongside a line-up of exciting headline musical artists from across East Africa. The concert is designed to help raise awareness of off-grid technologies and give them a platform within the region to provide individuals with access to electricity. 5 OFF THE GRID CLUB OFF THE GRID CLUB: The Off The Grid Club is EnergyNet s new membership programme developed to bring together credible off grid technology providers, financiers and regional leaders to invest in and develop reliable and scalable power solutions for Africa. The programme will provide a platform for members to form partnerships, giving them the opportunity to scale up their products and bring them to market more quickly. The Off the Grid Club initiative was born out of the recognition that there exists a real need for business acceleration and fund access for technology providers, leaders and entrepreneurs in African communities. WHAT IT WILL DO: The Off the Grid Club will act as a business accelerator specifically for commercial business and proven technologies, putting them immediately in front of our network of community leaders, entrepreneurs, international investors and proven consultants to enable projects to get to market faster. The Club will have a particular focus on social development through empowerment of female entrepreneurs, and projects that stimulate and enable further commerce in their communities. The most innovative members of the Club will be able to apply for an Investment award, presented by Founding Members on behalf of the Not Just Talking Fund for Energy Access, a fund set up by EnergyNet to finance in-market test cases to promote proof of concept. This is something EnergyNet has already proven with the PowerTurtle project in Johannesburg and we re excited to now expand this important work. WHO IT IS FOR? The Off the Grid Club is for Off Grid Technology Providers and Innovators, Financial Investors; Micro Finance Institutions (MFIs), Development Finance Institutions (DFIs), Foundations and Government Development Finance Initiatives and African Community Leaders, Business Leaders, Entrepreneurs and aspiring Entrepreneurs.
