4 WHY NIGERIA NOW? SOUTH AFRICA VS NIGERIA South Africa consumes nine times as much energy as Nigeria despite having onethird of its population. HINDSIGHT 4,000 MW DISPATCHED Nigeria has 13,400 MW of installed power generation capacity of which 8,000 MW is mechanically available. However, less than 4,000 MW has been dispatched on average over the past two years. 155 kwh AVERAGE COMSUMPTION PER CAPITA In Nigeria, the average annual per capita power consumption, only 155 kwh, is among the lowest in the world. THE POWER SECTOR RECOVERY PROGRAMME Updated plan The Federal Government recently launched the Nigerian Power Sector Recovery Programme: , which lays out plans to improve the financial capacity of NBET and improve the viability of the distribution companies in the country. $7.6 BILLION FORESIGHT Analysis has shown that the power sector will require funding of approximately $7.6 billion over five years, going forward.
