1 NOMINATIONS PACKAGE Candidacy for Director 2017 BC Association of Farmers Markets Board of Directors Election Process 1. Appointment of Nominations Committee (November 2016) 2. Call for Nominations (December 5, 2016 January 13, 2017 deadline extended to January 20, 2017) 3. Candidate list confirmed and provided to members (January 30, 2017) 4. Election (AGM, March 5, 2017) General Information related to the election process: 1. Nominations Committee: The Board appointed a nominations committee in November 2016 and tasked them with developing a nominations package based on current non-profit governance best practices. The nominations package will be distributed to members by December 5th, The Nominations Committee is providing this information to the membership for a greater understanding of our nominations and election process and the requirements of a BC Association of Farmers Markets (BCAFM) director. 2. Call for Nominations: From December 5, 2016 to January 20, 2017 BCAFM will invite its members to apply to run in the annual Board of Directors election. The call for nominations will remain open during this seven-week period to ensure this information package and the search for new board directors reaches as many potential candidates as possible. In keeping with non-profit governance best practices and BCAFM Bylaws, please note that nominations from the floor will not be accepted. 3. Eligibility: 26 (1) To qualify for election as a director, a person must be a representative of a member farmers market; a representative may be a member, market manager, vendor or board member; and, before accepting nomination, provide to the president or the executive director of the BCAFM verification in writing, signed by the member market's president or secretary, that the membership of the market have supported the nomination by way of an ordinary resolution. 4. Candidate List: After January 20, 2017 every member will receive an Election Bulletin from BCAFM, which will list all prospective candidates both new candidates and directors applying for re-election - who are running in the March 5, 2017 election. The bulletin will contain a biography and statements from each candidate. If other information is supplied by the candidate this will be posted on the BCAFM website. The need to establish a base foundation of board skills, experience and attributes

2 emerged from the recognition that in order to achieve BCAFM goals, the Board itself should aim to reflect the markets we serve. To this end, Board members completed a self-assessment to identify not only their existing skills, experience and attributes, but additional skills and attributes we wish to add or build on, to strengthen the board overall. For 2017, the BCAFM Board is seeking board directors with the following skills, experience and attributes: A combination of the skills, experience and competencies outlined on the last page of this package; As part of our succession planning, we are also seeking an individual interested in the position of Treasurer with an interest and skills in bookkeeping, accounting and/or financial management of non-profit organizations; Demonstrated ability in diversity, inclusion and innovation; Skills in small business and business development 5. Election: The election will be held during the annual general meeting on Sunday, March 5, Results will be announced immediately. All successful directors will be required to attend a directors meeting in the afternoon of Sunday, March 5, A further orientation will be scheduled for new directors.
