1 Nye County Economic Development Director's Activity Report October 2005 The following is a iisting of activities undertaken from the period beginning August 2005 Pahrump Economic Development Summit The first session was held on August I, 2005 and was attended by 15 individuals representing organizations with an interest in Pahrump Economic Development. Laurayne Murray, Pahrump Town Board member acted as facilitator. The day's theme was "Chains, Links and Keys and the group spent the day identifying strengths and weaknesses and defining roles and relationships of the various economic development partners with the overall goal of bringing new business to the community and supporting growth and development of existing businesses. The group determined that the County Economic Development Director served as the coordinating foundation for economic development in Pahrump. The meeting summary notes are attached. A follow-up meeting was held on August 22, 2005 to review and refine the previous days work and summary, particularly defining the roles of generalists and specialists. Eight of the attendees from the first meeting were present. The refined list of economic development generalists and specialists and their roles is attached. Continuing steps are working with the identified specialists either one-on-one or in "trade groups" to develop and strengthen relationsk the purpose of economic development for the community. An example is wor ith real estate professionals and others who may be a first point of contact for a ial economic development client to explain how their contact with a member of neralist team is mutually beneficial. As the result of these meetings, we have had a client identified who has been in phone and e-mais contact for 6 weeks and made a 2-day site visit last week. He is working on his business plan now for Pahrump industrial and or commercial development. etc.

2 Researched (continuing activity) the amusement park industry. Local citizens had suggested that this industry might be a good fit for Pahrump based on the tourism industry in Clark County. Contacted members sf the National Association of industriai and Office Parks (Southern Nevada Chapter) to provide information regarding the advantages of a Nye County location. We have been notified that the grant submitted from the Beatty Economic Development Corporation (BEDC) in support of the Bullfrog Mine land use was not funded. i will arrange a debrief with the USDA to get informafiion to support the next submittal. The BEDC has not sponsored other activities and will benefit from participating in the recent renewable energy workshop and other activities before the next round of grant applications. Worked with the Mine Scarred Lands Initiative group and Nye County Brownsfield Team on the Renewable Energy Workshop on September 24th, and have had follow-up meetings with some of the participants including absentee Amargosa Valley landowner interested in development of his property Prepared housing information for a Beatty business owner who has expressed interest in better housing options for current and future employees. Met with USDA Rural Development to obtain information and to discuss housing needs and opportunities throughout the County. Met with Amargosa Town Board representatives and School District officials regarding future facility needs. Toured Amargosa Vallely facilities and began research of potential Provided business start up information, referrals to resident, and financing information to business property owner and developer ir! Amargosa Valley. Ongoing support to owner of a historic building in need of restoration and preservation Creation incentive

3 Toured facilities at the Nevada Test Site that could be potentially located "outside the gate" to consider future options. Obtained and forwarded procurement list to Nye County businesses. Continual review of Test Site procurements to identify businesses that may locate in the County. On a daily basis, respond to inquiries regarding economic development; provide information, research through meetings and personai contact opportunities.

Although several of the groups have responsibilities in a broader geographical area, the focus of the meeting was limited to Pahrump. Numerous exercises were condrlcted with small gro~tps discrrssing ad fomrilzting ideas and strategies regarding economic development that are specific to Pahrump. CLK, Chains Links and Keys, was the chosen theme. Chains are the process, Links are the steps and the Keys are the specialists throughout.
