While it is nearly impossible to document every resource needed for business start-up or expansion, the following pages include a basic listing that may be of help to you as you embark on your new adventure. Many of the resources in this guide will assist you in developing a realistic plan prior to entering into business. Take the time to contact these sources of assistance and draw from their skills and knowledge to complement and strengthen your chances of business success. The guide includes a representative cross-section of what is available. If the particular resource you contact cannot assist you personally with your need, they usually can refer you to someone who can. This county has a vast and diversified group of professionals who can provide invaluable information regarding the initial stages of your business. Early contact with the following could save you a lot of time, money and wasted effort. The Ohio Small Business Development at Marietta serves Monroe County by offering one-on-one counseling, on site assessments, referrals, a resource center for research and development, workshops and seminars, and loan resources. 7 COUNTY GOVERNMENT & REGULATIONS County Government, in many instances, administers licenses and taxes for Ohio. Be sure to fulfill your county responsibilities. Failure to do so may result in the loss or delay in receiving a necessary state license to operate your business Depending on your particular business and situation, additional requirements may exist Be sure to check with each area after you have outlined your particular situation for any additional applicable licenses, permits, or taxes Monroe County Auditor s Office 101 North Main St., Room Phone: Fax: dstonemcauditor@yahoo.com Website: Vendor s License Required of each person with a fixed place of business in Ohio from which taxable sales are made. Required of most retail businesses and service businesses that provide automatic data processing, computer services and electronic information services; telecommunications service; lawn care and landscaping services; private investigation, security services, building maintenance and janitorial services, employment placing services, employment services, exterminating services, satellite broadcasting services and snow removal services This is a state license, issued by the county that pertains to the Ohio Sales Tax (see State Sales Tax). The charge for this is $25 Be prepared to supply standard information (name and address, phone) and social security number or federal tax ID number. Corporations will need their charter number Other Licenses The Monroe County Auditor's Office is also responsible for selling cigarette, junk yard, show and dog licenses. Inspections of junk yards are conducted by the Monroe County Sheriff's Department. 9 VILLAGE OF WOODSFIELD Municipal Government requirements are as important as the requirements imposed by any other level of government. If you are locating a business within city or village limits contact the appropriate office to ask about zoning, permits, taxes or other requirements. Be sure to ask each agency you contact if they know of any additional requirements for which you are responsible. Local regulations vary a great deal from community to community. Village of Woodsfield 221 S.
