2 For regular papers submitted to Adis journals, the typical time lapse between submission and publication varies by title, but these are always timely. Of course, if particularly urgent publication is required, the Editor of the journal may be approached with a request to expedite publication. Introduction This guide explains the processes, requirements and value of the Adis Rapid Publishing Service, providing all the information you need to achieve publication of your original research article in as little as 3-4 weeks from submission. The Adis Rapid Publishing Service: 9 Is an option available for any Adis journal that accepts original research 9 Is an option available for any submitted original research article, but is subject to the payment of a small service fee upon acceptance 9 Does not increase the chances of acceptance, but does guarantee the speed of processes that are under Adis control 9 Provides an overall service package that is second to none It uniquely combines: 9 Speed: independent peer review of original research articles guaranteed within 7-10 working days of submission 9 Integrity: robust editorial standards ensure quality and credibility 9 Service: dedicated Managing Editors deliver unparalleled customer service 9 Choice: a range of Adis journals varying in subject and impact The publishing process A submitted article will be considered for publication, and assessed by the Editor of the intended journal, providing it falls within the journal s aims and scope. If the Editor considers the work to be novel and accurate, it will be sent out for further assessment by a group of external specialist peer reviewers. If the article passes peer review and is confirmed as acceptable for publication, it will be published in print and made available online within the next issue of that journal. If an article is rejected, Adis offers cascading peer review, whereby the peer reviewers comments can be used to submit the article to another Adis journal, without the need for any further peer review. However, for authors wishing to secure a guarantee that their article will be processed in the fastest possible time, for whatever reason, we offer another publishing option. The rapid publishing option A journal with paid subscribers not only offers the benefit of a receptive audience, but also does not require its authors to pay for publication of their work, as the costs of publication are covered by the journal s subscription charges. However, the Adis Rapid Publishing Service is an option for any author who wishes to pay an administration fee in order to expedite publication of their original research article to the following guaranteed service standards: 9 The return of peer-review comments and a provisional acceptance or rejection decision within 7-10 working days of submission (provided that the article was submitted in the correct way see page 6) 9 The typesetting and publishing of the final manuscript within 7 working days of re-submission, following acceptable revisions made by the author to address peer-review comments (please note that this timeline also depends upon the author reviewing the typeset page proofs and returning comments within 1 working day) This means that if author revisions can be made quickly, then an article can be published in as little as 3-4 weeks from submission. 3 Rapid publishing timeline Authors are advised to discuss the content of their original research manuscript with the appropriate journal Editor prior to submission. Our Editors are always willing to give advice about the appropriate target journals within the Adis portfolio, and to assist authors with preparing their manuscripts in the correct way. Following submission, a dedicated Managing Editor will work closely with the author to create a schedule based on this timeline, and will then liaise with the author throughout the process to ensure that the project remains on track and meets the deadlines originally agreed.

4 Other considerations Preparation prior to submission There is some important groundwork to complete before an article can be submitted: 9 It is vital to select a journal that represents a suitable submission target for the article in question. 9 In order to ensure that the paper falls within the aims and scope of the journal, it is recommended that the author discusses the article with the appropriate journal Editor prior to reaching a decision to submit. Adis Editors will be happy to enter into discussion at this stage and make recommendations. 9 We are only able to offer this service if the Editors are provided with the title, abstract, author names, affiliations AND also the exact date when the author intends to submit, at least 10 working days prior to the intended submission date. This advance notice allows the Editors sufficient time to recruit a unique panel of suitably qualified peer reviewers who are available to review the paper within the days immediately following submission. 9 It is important that the paper is submitted according to the submission instructions for the relevant journal, i.e. that the paper is styled correctly, and is accompanied by the appropriate author declaration and copyright assignment forms (this information is available at AdisOnline.com or from the journal s Editor). Definition of publication There are three stages of publication: 1. Provision of a PDF of the final typeset article to the author. Unless the article is being published under an open access license, this PDF is provided for personal and teaching use only, but carries the full journal citation. If required, commercial reprints and eprints can also be produced rapidly at this time. 2. Posting of the final article on AdisOnline.com within the next available issue and, in the interim, within the Published Ahead-of-Print section of that journal online. 3. The print issue is then distributed shortly after the issue appears online. The service fee The service fee is designed only to cover the costs of employing dedicated Managing Editors to handle this intensive process. The fee is only charged if the Adis Rapid Publication Service option is requested prior to submission, and is payable after peerreview comments have been returned along with either an outright or a provisional acceptance decision. There is no charge if a paper is rejected outright. The service fee does not increase the chances of a paper being accepted, nor does any proportion of the fee go to peer reviewers, who are not engaged in this process for any financial or personal gain.
