1 (Copy) Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Announcement Subject: Research Grants The Research Fund of the Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Prince of Songkla University, a Fiscal Year of To ensure that research grants of the Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Research Fund, Prince of Songkla University, Phuket Campus, have been allocated and organized adequately and effectively as to bring about development towards a research-based faculty and comply with university regulations regarding the University Research Fund in the year 2001 dated 28 May 2001, the following details are defined. 1. In this announcement The research fund refers to the research fund of the Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism. Lecturers refers to the lecturers of the Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism. Faculty members refers to government officials and government employees (that are responsible for the government subsidy and the university s income) working for the Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism. Specialists refers to outside specialists who have expertise in related fields of study. Researchers refers to the lecturers and faculty members of the Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism. An institute research fund refers to a research fund granted to a research project aimed at policy making, planning, management improvement, and the administration of the Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism, Prince of Songkla University. A general research fund refers to a research fund granted to a research project aimed at investigating hospitality and tourism disciplines. 1
2 A project research fund refers to a research fund granted to a research project aimed at investigating hospitality and tourism disciplines with an emphasis on particular areas and communities in which the research results can be implemented. Teachers assistants / research assistants refers to graduate students of the Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism or other people who are capable of working as teachers assistants and/or research assistants. 2. Objectives 2.1 To support and facilitate research projects of lecturers and faculty members. 2.2 To continuously develop researchers. 2.3 To assist faculty members in experiencing overseas research. 2.4 To reward successful research projects. 2.5 To promote filing patents. 2.6 Other objectives with regard to research. 3. Duration Not longer than 12 months with the allocation of two time extensions not longer than 6 months each 4. Category and Grant Value 4.1 The institute research fund is worth not more than 100,000 Baht (including payment of 20% of a project budget for one researcher and payment of 30% of a project budget for two researchers), but not lower than 10,000 Baht. 4.2 The general research fund is worth not more than 250,000 Baht (including payment of 20% of a project budget for one researcher and payment of 30% of a project budget for two or more researchers), but not lower than 10,000 Baht. 4.3 The project research fund is worth not more than 500,000 Baht. Each project unit is to be granted not more than 300,000 Baht, but not lower than 10,000 Baht. There should be no more than 3 project units (including payment of 20% of a project budget for one researcher and payment of 30% of a project budget for two or more researchers). 2

Researchers additional grants 5.1 Not more than 5% of the project value for research advisors (that are faculty members of the Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism or are invited from other institutions) 5.2 An extra grant of not more than 10% of the project value will be awarded in the case a research project has been completed within the timeframe Baht/hour for mentor researchers working in the Faculty Research Consultation Unit 6. Rewards for successful research 6.1 A researcher/ researchers contribute(s) no less than 50% to a research article/ research study ,000 Baht/article for full research articles or full academic articles published in national research conference proceedings ,500 Baht/article for full research articles or full academic articles published in international research conference proceedings or in national research journals which are not listed in the database shown in the Kor. Por. Or Announcement or The Higher Education Commission Regulations: 2010 Criteria for Examining Academic Journals Qualified for Publishing Academic Papers, but the institution has received approval from the Institution Council and has publicly announced as well as informed Kor.Por.Or/ Kor.Kor.Or within 30 days from the date of the announcement ,000 Baht/article for full research articles published in national research journals shown in the second category of the TCI Database ,000 Baht/article for full research articles published in international research journals which are not listed in the database shown in the Kor.Por.Or Announcement or The Higher Education Commission Regulations: 2010 Criteria for Examining Academic Journals Qualified for Publishing Academic Papers, but the institution has received approval from the Institution Council and has publicly announced as well as informed Kor.Por.Or/ Kor.Kor.Or within 30 days from the date of the announcement (must not be shown in the Beall s list) or for research articles published in academic journals shown in the first category of the TCI Database 3

Research grants for other expenses related to researching 7.1 Allocate 100% for expense used for publishing research articles in research journals if necessary and without repeated withdrawal. 7.2 A grant for expense used in participating in research conferences and presenting research studies both nationally and internationally 5
6 7.2.1 For a national research conference, participants will be allocated 15,000 Baht/person/year and presenters will be allocated 25,000 Baht/person/year For an international research conference, a presenter will be allocated up to 50,000 baht/person/year by the Faculty. Additional financial assistance may be requested from the University. 7.3 A grant for the head of a research unit that receives a research fund from other organizations Allocate 3,000 Baht to a research project that receives not more than 300,000 Baht after submission of the granted research contract and within the research timeframe Allocate 5,000 Baht to a research project that receives not more than 500,000 Baht after submission of the granted research contract and within the research timeframe Allocate 8,000 Baht to a research project that receives 500,000 Baht or higher after submission of the granted research contract and within the research timeframe. 7.4 A grant for filing a patent 7.5 An additional grant for business negotiation related to a research product and the graduate study 7.6 A lecturer/researcher development grant Training/ Seminars/ Study trips (participants or organizers) Expense for guest speakers or research advisors (both Thais and non Thais) Remuneration for specialists who are to evaluate research stated in item Others 7.7 A grant of up to 10,000 Baht for textbooks and teaching materials 7.8 A fee of up to 10,000 Baht for editing and proofreading for a research publication (documentation is needed) 7.9 A teacher s assistant grant/a research assistant grant for graduate students of the Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism, Prince of Songkla University 7.10 A grant for research implementation 7.11 A grant for research/projects nurturing the research potential of the Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism 6
7 8. Conditions 8.1 A research project applying for a grant must not be a project that has already obtained another grant, except for a project receiving a grant from a national research unit with a condition that the Faculty must subsidize a partial grant. This research project will be eligible for applying for an additional grant if necessary. 8.2 Should grant holders take their research project for which they have already received a grant to apply for and then receive another grant, they must refund the full amount of the grant awarded to them by the Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism. 8.3 The research fund is subject to consider only applicants who are not failed to complete another project within the specified timeframe, and/or are project leaders conducting up to two research projects, and/or have a hire contract not fewer than 8 months left. 8.4 Any changes in details of a project which received a grant must be approved by the research fund committee prior to proceeding. 8.5 Should the grant holders be unable to complete the research project and wish to terminate the project, they must lodge an appeal to the research fund committee who will consider each case separately. 8.6 The research fund committee is subject to suspend or terminate grants in cases that the grant holders fail to comply with all conditions stated in this announcement or in the research project. 9. Applications 9.1 Applicants (item 4) must submit a Prince of Songkla University research proposal form (research form 1) either in Thai or English to the manager of the Research Fund Committee by the specified date and time. 9.2 Applicants (item 6) must apply by enclosing evidence of a research publication within 90 days after the research was published. 9.3 Applicants (item 6) must submit a form requesting an award and enclose evidence of a research publication. 9.4 Applicants (item 7) must submit a written request for research funding with required documentation enclosed. 7
8 9.5 For the other grants apart from items 4 and 6, applicants or responsible persons must submit the proposal of an application within 30 days prior to proceeding with the research project. 10. Payment process 10.1 For research grants (item 4), the Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism will pay 3 times as follows: The first installment 50% of the total amount of the grant after the grant holders sign the contract The second installment 40% of the total amount of the after the grant holders submit a report on the project s progress, and the research fund committee approves The third installment 10% of the total amount of the grant after the grant holders submit a complete report of the findings found in the research project and an original of a research article to the research fund within 3 months after the project completion date, and the Research Fund Committee approves Extra funding stated in item 5.2 will be paid after the grant holders submit a complete report of the findings found in the research project and an original of a research article to the research fund or within the time specified in the contract, and the Research Fund Committee approves Expense evidence The grant holders must collect all financial bills so that the responsible units will be able to examine the records for up to 10 years after completion For the research grant in item 6, the Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism will pay when the grant holders present confirmation of research publication and complete a form requesting a research award For the other grants, the Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism will pay after the grant holders receive approval from the Research Fund Committee. 8

The Research Fund of the Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism has ownership and possessory rights of any patents stemming from research projects awarded grants specified in this announcement, unless otherwise published for public interest. 12. For any procedures not stated in this announcement or not stated comprehensively, the Research Fund Committee of the Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism is able to interpret, judge, and operate according to its discretion. 13. The resolution of the Research Fund Committee of the Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism is beyond argument. Any other announcements against this announcement are not considered.
