Based on our needs, the State of Maine, Department of Education has ranked this project #2 on their Major Capital Improvement Program s Final Priority list. For more information on the State s Major Capital School Construction Program and funding, visit What has been accomplished to date? Spring 2008: Sanford Submitted 4 applications to the State for prioritization in for SRTC/SHS, and 3 elementary schools 2010: Two projects selected by State School Board for funding- SRTC/SHS and Emerson State DOE outlines a 21 step process required of all projects Spring 2012: City Council formed a Core Building Committee with purpose to select an architect for SHS/ SRTC project. Fall 2012: School Committee begins to formulate Educational Specifications document to describe overall program needs, relationship between two schools and a key design features. Fall 2012: School Committee hires Consultant David Stephen to help facilitate staff and community meetings around defining the Ed Specs. October 2012-January 2013: Core Building Committee advertised for architect, interviewed 5 and did site visits on 2. Selected Lavallee Brensinger Architects of Manchester, NH January 2013: State requires a study of the existing SHS/SRTC site to see if it can accommodate an expanded facility. February 2013-Current An RFQ is posted for a civil engineering firm to identify potential alternative sites for SHS/SRTC, as required by the State. Qualifications to be reviewed March 7th. February 2013-Current: Architects conduct a program review to identify program needs, as required by the State. February 2013: City Budget Committee recommends and City Council approves interim financing for initial expenses with site studies and program reviews. Citizens will vote on bond this June 2013 for interim financing. The interim financing will be reimbursed by the state once Concept Approval occurs (March 2013) February 2013: Architects begin meeting with key school staff on program needs. Architects also outline scope and time line of work. March 2013: City Council re-appoints Core Building Committee to make decisions through Conceptual Design March 2013: Core Building Committee seeks community involvement via Community Advisory Committee and Community Awareness Committee Who is Lavallee Brensinger Architects? Lavallee Brensinger Architects were chosen based on their qualifications, work experience, and outstanding reputation. See attached information on Lavallee Brensinger Architects. What are the next steps? When will the project be complete? See attached overall project schedule. We are anticipating opening doors to the new/improved facility in the Fall of Note that this is anticipated schedule is subject to community and Committee approvals. How can I get involved? The Core Building Committee is currently seeking volunteers to join the Community Advisory Committee and the Community Awareness Committee. Please see attached description and application. These forms can also be found on the School Department Website or hard copy at Sanford Schools, Library, and School or City Offices.

2 Sanford High School and Regional Technical Center Project Community Volunteer Community Involvement Opportunities Community Advisory Committee: The Sanford Building Committee is seeking volunteers who wish to help shape the Sanford High School and Regional Technical Center by joining the Community Advisory Committee. This group will assist the Building Committee in reviewing and making decisions on the project throughout planning and design. The Community Advisory Committee will advise the Design Team and the Building Committee on many aspects of the project. They will solicit and provide feedback from the Greater Sanford Community. They will review issues and preliminary designs in an effort to create a facility that best reflects the core character of Sanford, and that will create a lasting and significant impact to both the School System and the Community. The Community Advisory Committee may also form Focus Groups to review specific aspects of the proposed facility (See below). All participants should be open-minded, positive, and team oriented. The Building Committee hopes to assemble a group that represents a wide cross section of the Sanford Community. This group should include all age levels, current public interest groups, active community members, and any person which represents a Sanford demographic or existing community group. Committee Meetings are anticipated to be held at the Sanford High School. Public Awareness Committee and Chair: The Sanford Building Committee is seeking volunteers to serve on the Public Awareness Committee and an energetic person to chair this Committee. This group will be responsible to communicate progress of the Sanford High School and Regional Technical Center Project. They will ensure that the Sanford Community stays informed on this important project. The Building Committee feels that it is imperative that the community be engaged throughout the process. The Public Awareness Committee will identify opportunities to post information and endeavor to maintain that information accurately throughout the planning, design, and construction of the project. Information may include decisions and opportunities to weigh in on programming, design, sites selection, progress updates, and upcoming meetings. Avenues to get this information out might include Newspapers, Websites (run by the school, the city, or private groups), local television, flyers, local postings, community meetings, etc. Sanford Team Diagram:
