2 The Exchange 10 places for 2 nd year undergraduate (or 3 rd year PPE) students; You will spend an academic year at one of the Sciences Po campuses: Paris Dijon Le Havre Menton Nancy Poitiers Reims The exchange is in addition to the full length of your programme you will be expected to return to the LSE to complete your final year in

3 Funding You pay: Fees for Home / UK students: approximately 1350 (to be confirmed) Fees for international students: Amount to be confirmed ( 4500 in 2017) You receive: All students: Erasmus Mobility Grant 330 per month in 2017/2018 but likely to be less in 2018/2019 You may receive an LSE Exchange Bursary: This is means assessed so dependant on household income Home UK/EU students: LSE Bursary/LSE EU Bursary (if you receive this in UK, you will also receive for your year in France) Additional Erasmus funding is available for those with recognised Widening Participation needs or Special Needs.

4 The LSE Selection Process Complete the application form, which is available at Submit an electronic copy by to with the subject title Undergraduate Exchange Application. Application deadline Friday 24 November at 11:59 pm Completing the form: You need to complete the Personal Details and Exchange Details sections of the form; Ensure you read the guidance given on the form about completing each section; You can choose to apply for Sciences Po, UC Berkeley or both institutions; Choose your exchange option carefully as selection for both institutions will run at the same time. If you only apply for Sciences Po now there will not be the opportunity to apply for UC Berkeley at a later date; There are five questions (1000 characters maximum), each worth five marks. The panel will assess your answer to each question, so ensure you place equal strength on each one. Candidates who were successful in the past addressed each question in full; The final page is for the panel s use only. TIPS Your referee cannot be a GTA, check if your referee is happy to write a reference for you before giving their details; Be yourself in your application over clichéd applications that look like applications for The Apprentice are generally not the ones that are selected. We want to find out more about you and what you will get from this experience. You should not intend to choose modules that will give you a strong advantage in your final year at LSE

5 The LSE Selection Process Shortlisting After the deadline of the 24 th November, a panel of selectors will consider the applications and create a shortlist. We aim to let you know by LSE s Christmas Closure (not the end of term) if you have been shortlisted. LSE closes on the 21 st December 2017 and re-opens on the 2 January 2018, so there would be no benefit in contacting us during this time for an update if we have not contacted you with an update. After shortlisting has been completed, we will contact the referees of the shortlisted candidates. If you have applied for both institutions, we will inform you which exchange you have been shortlisted for. All applications will be considered by a selection panel headed by senior staff at the School We aim get the decision to you before mid-january There is no right of appeal if you are not shortlisted or selected for the exchange.

6 Help with your application LSE LIFE offers prospective exchange students the opportunity to prepare their application form with the support of a Student Adviser. The tailor-made support consists of two to three meetings: in the first meeting, students develop their general strategy and outline their ideas for the application; in the second meeting, students further refine their application statements regarding coherence, cohesion, and concision; and in a third meeting, students will do a final fine-tuning of their applications. Students can book 1-on-1 meetings with a Student Adviser at LSE LIFE responsible for the application support either through LSE LIFE s booking link or at the reception of LSE LIFE.

7 After you apply We will select 15 candidates from the shortlist. There will be 10 successful candidates and five reserves. Successful candidates will be assess by the Financial Support Office to assess whether they are eligible for additional funding on the basis of widening participation needs. We have reserves as people s plans can change over the year due to unforeseen circumstances. We will all applicants with the outcome we are unable to provide individual feedback on applications. Even though you have been selected by LSE, you will still need to complete the Sciences Po application. We will nominate you to Sciences Po and you will be required to complete their application process. You will be required to complete paperwork to receive your Erasmus Grant and Exchange bursary from LSE. More detailed advice will be given to successful applicants.
