1 Nottingham Law School Dean s Bar Professional Training Course (BPTC) Scholarship for Academic Excellence Nottingham Law School is delighted to offer a number of competitive Dean s Bar Professional Training Course Scholarships for Academic Excellence for eligible courses starting in September These prestigious scholarships are available to UK, EU and International students who have received an offer to study on a eligible course, and are worth up to the value of half the tuition fee. The scholarships will be available in the form of a tuition fee reduction. Nature of the scholarship These scholarships will be awarded to the candidates who most closely meet the criteria for the award, which are provided on the next page. The scholarship decision will be made by the awarding committee and all decisions are final. The scholarship will be available in the form of a tuition fee reduction, and if you are awarded a scholarship your fee will be adjusted before enrolment. Application process Applications must be received at the address on the application form by 4 pm GMT on 18 June 2018, and applications received after this deadline will not be considered. Applications must consist of a fully completed scholarship application form, which includes a personal statement of a maximum of 300 words for each criterion, and which directly addresses the personal statement criteria on the next page. Each criterion must be addressed separately; the awarding committee reserves the right to exclude from consideration any applications that do not address each criterion separately and / or include written statements which exceed the stated word limit. You should note that due to the number of high-quality applications, the awarding committee would expect applicants to have or be predicted a first class degree (alternatively a Distinction from the GDL). Criterion two (maximum 300 words) Motivation to succeed in practice and potential as an advocate. For example: This can include knowledge of the legal profession, the steps taken to acquire the personal skills required of a practitioner, experience of mooting, public speaking or debating.

5 Nottingham Law School Dean s Bar Professional Training Course (BPTC) Scholarship for Academic Excellence Terms and conditions 1. This scheme is only open to applicants who are classed as UK, EU or International for fee purposes. Please note NTIC progression students are not eligible for a scholarship. Please check our website for details of funding for NTIC students at: 2. Applicants are only eligible for consideration of a scholarship award if they have been offered a place on the Bar Professional Training Course. 3. Students who are sponsored by their employers, government, or funding body (in full or in part) are not eligible to receive this scholarship award. Likewise students who are awarded an Inns Scholarship, the sum of which exceeds 7,200, are not eligible to receive this scholarship. 4. The scholarship deadline is 4 pm GMT on 18 June Applications received after the deadline will not be considered. 5. Scholarships of up to a maximum of half the tuition fee are available. The awarding committee may choose to award a part scholarship. 6. The scholarship will be available in the form of a tuition fee reduction. If you are awarded a scholarship, your fee will be adjusted before enrolment. 7. If you are awarded any other scholarship, bursary and / or fee reduction from the University the maximum amount awarded will not exceed more than half the tuition fee. 8. The scholarship is not transferable and will not be awarded if you choose to defer your entry to a different start date, or if you choose to transfer to a different course at the University. 9. Applicants will be informed of whether they have (or have not) been awarded a scholarship (and of the value of the scholarship award if they have been awarded) within three weeks of the application deadline date. 10. The scholarship will only be awarded once an applicant accepts their scholarship, accepts and meets the conditions of their offer, and are eligible to enrol on the BPTC. 11. Scholarships are competitive and selection is based on the information provided on the scholarship application form. It is, therefore, of great importance that you give your personal statement careful thought and preparation, and that you refer to the criteria provided. 12. The University s decision in all matters relating to the scholarship is final. 13. If your scholarship application is successful, you may be asked to appear in online and / or printed University marketing materials. This may involve providing a student profile and a photograph which may be used to promote the University s scholarship schemes and Bar Professional Training Course.
