3 Publicity Committee Chartered as a joint standing committee under the chairs of and to generate a common theme and joint publicity documents, press announcements, recommendations to the WG, IEEE etc. of the technical accomplishments, and issues resulting from the interim and plenary sessions as well as address external issues which are directly related to the development of and standards. This information is posted on the /.15 websites Used by the WG chairs and vice-chairs for communication to media, press and media analysts, IEEE staff and affiliated industry bodies Everyone can vote and participate in straw polls, motions, debates and discussions Approximately 15 people in attendance at the Ft. Patents IEEE standards may include the known use of patent(s), including patent applications, provided the IEEE receives assurance from the patent holder or applicant with respect to patents essential for compliance with both mandatory and optional portions of the standard. This assurance shall be provided without coercion and prior to approval of the standard (or reaffirmation when a patent becomes known after initial approval of the standard). This assurance shall be a letter that is in the form of either a) A general disclaimer to the effect that the patentee will not enforce any of its present or future patent(s) whose use would be required to implement the proposed IEEE standard against any person or entity using the patent(s) to comply with the standard or b) A statement that a license will be made available without compensation or under reasonable rates, with reasonable terms and conditions that are demonstrably free of any unfair discrimination This assurance shall apply, at a minimum, from the date of the standard's approval to the date of the standard's withdrawal and is irrevocable during that period. 8 Recent Press Coverage No notable erroneous articles except some timeline dates Attention seems to be shifting from security to.11g Recent articles found on-line: balanced discussion of pre-std.11g products at Comdex g article, refers to 11g as a draft standard avail in March Some feel that there are many articles implying that 11g is ready now and that should issue a press release or white paper to clarify the current situation. 15 The January 2003 Summary of Activities January 2003 IEEE /.15 Publicity Standing Committee January 13-17, Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, USA Summary of Activities and Future Plans Publicity Committee (PC) held one meeting for the week of January 13, 2003 chaired by Brian Mathews PC Chair and Glyn Roberts PC Chair for Bill Carney provided an update on new developments at the WiFi Alliance. John Barr presented a WiMEDIA update. The group reviewed the information on the 802News website. Preparations for the May meeting in Singapore was discussed. Brian Mathews and Glyn Roberts will coordinate with IEEE marketing staff to obtain needed materials (brochures, posters, etc.). At the IEEE 802 Plenary session in March the PC will receive reports from WiFi Alliance and WiMEDIA, review input for the 802News website, and review plans for the May 2003 Singapore meeting.
