1 10 Business and Management Nonprofit Management Certificate Program and Workshops Our Nonprofit Certificate Program reflects the importance of this market sector within the current economic climate. The program is packed with the practical techniques necessary for survival in this challenging economy. Workshops are oriented to the needs of staff, program administrators, executive directors, board members, philanthropists, volunteers, and those interested in employment within nonprofits. To successfully fulfill the requirements of the certificate program, students must complete all four of the core classes and any three electives. Courses can also be taken individually on a non-certificate basis. Emphasis will be placed on the development of an effective Board, the roles and responsibilities of the Board of Directors, the importance of a mission statement and vision, and the effective management of volunteers. 2 Business and Management 11 Creating Your Mission Statement Most successful businesses and not-for-profit organizations have developed statements which define their main mission. This Mission Statement defines the key purpose of the entity and its reason for existing. It helps guide strategies and employees, staff or volunteers toward reaching the organization s goals. The same tool, when thoughtfully developed, assists individuals in gaining clarity into his or her life s purpose while guiding the actions taken toward personal satisfaction and success. In this introspective workshop, you will identify key roles you play, values that are critical to you, and contributions you hope to make in your life.
