Through their membership in STRING, the Capital Region of Denmark and the City of Copenhagen participates in a range of events during Fehmarnbelt Days, most noticeably the political conference Green Growth Regions in Motion. This local event for the Capital region of Denmark and the City of Copenhagen focuses on creating connections not only through the STRING region, but through the rest of Europe. Key areas to be address are green growth and infrastructure, energy efficiency and sustainable cities. The Fehmarnbelt Days will also host a variety of social and cultural events in the heart of Copenhagen. 3

Andersen, Aarhus University, Department of Economics and Business, (tbc) Mr. Lars Nørby Johansen, Chairman of the Danish Growth Council (tbc) Professor Ove K. Pedersen, Copenhagen Business School, Department of Business and Politics Description: Central Denmark Region will use Growth and Development in Central Denmark Region and Europe to initiate the debate on how to form a future development strategy for the region by involving relevant partners. One of the Region s tasks is to prepare a regional growth- and development strategy, describing societal challenges, and setting targets and regional solutions to meet them. The new strategy must ensure context and gain increased impact and visibility regarding future intervention. The aim is to ensure links between business development, employment and educational efforts, infrastructure, climate and environment as well as balance between cities and rural areas. Throughout autumn a series of workshops and seminars will be held as part of the process to develop the regional growth and development strategy. These events aim to explore the challenges: COMPETITIVENESS CLIMATE AND RESOURCES WELFARE DEMOGRAPHICS, SETTLETMENT PATTERNS AND MOBILITY Growth and Development in Central Denmark Region and Europe will highlight the effort to develop the strategy and clarify the challenges by bringing together researchers, business representatives and politicians who will present their views on the challenges and their influence on the regional development from a European and global perspective as well as a domestic and local one. 5

Our aim is to bring EU closer to our SME s and give them valuable insight and understanding of their opportunities within Horizon By providing knowledge about Horizon 2020, we hope to contribute to increased growth and innovation within our local community. At the event we will present selected areas which aim to show the SME s how the program can benefit their product and technology development and hence increase their overall performance. Further the universities will contribute with information on how their knowledge and competencies can be utilised in the process. The event will take place in week 47 which is the official week of growth and entrepreneurship in Denmark. This week focuses on entrepreneurship, innovation and growth Target groups of participants: Inhabitants of Esbjerg Municipality, entrepreneurs, representatives from the community sector, local authorities, local government, non-governmental organizations, local producers and other economic actors and the media. The event will include several presentations about sustainability based on Aalborg Sustainability Strategy and will discuss the way forward. Lastly Aalborg Sustainability Award will be given. The sustainability Strategy is focusing on the following areas: Sustainable City and Housing; Sustainable Mobility; Sustainable Supply; Sustainability and the citizens; Sustainable conversion of businesses and Green Growth; The Nature and Environment and Aalborg Commitments. Challenges in respect to the demographic change in our society will have to include sustainability i all policies. The aim of the event is to create a public debate about the sustainable initiatives in the community and to engage politicians, administrators and citizens in the development of Aalborg as a smart and sustainable city. 10

Middelfart 17 November2014 Connecting regional strategies Type: Conference Organisers: Centre for Innovative Medical Technology, Odense University Hospital and University of Southern Denmark Chair: Lea Bohn, Innovation Consultant and Event coordinator and Claus Duedal Pedersen, Chief Innovation Officer. Speakers: Description: Centre for Innovative Medical Technology at Odense University Hospital will hold a conference focused on implementation of new services and systems to benefit the patients and reinforce patient empowerment. The conference will showcase successful examples from all Danish regions. As the conference is hosted by OUH and the Region of Southern Denmark, special emphasis will be on the many successes and projects in our region and Odense University Hospital. Target groups of participants: The event will be aimed at decision makers, project managers, IT consultants and clinical staff from hospitals, regions and municipalities in Denmark. Additionally the conference will be held in conjunction with the project organisations in charge of building the new hospitals in Denmark to ensure that lessons from existing hospitals and organizations are successfully transferred to the new hospitals. Bioenergi Sjælland focuses on how the bioenergy resources in the region can be utilized in the most optimal way. The result will be 18 specific cases, ready in the autumn of These 18 cases will consist of different types of facilities that fit the local resources and circumstances. The goal with these case-examples is to make the process of preparing new bioenergy facilities easier and less time consuming. As a result the project focuses on: Resources and agricultural requirements Economical and practical opportunities and barriers Best available business models The foundation for realizing new projects There are various reasons for this initiative, especially the need for prefeasibility studies which can help ensuring the most suitable placing and construction of all the facilities. Another important issue is contributing to achieving new incomes to the agriculture sector of the region by accelerating the demand for agricultural co-products. The closing conference will give an overview of all the detailed material, and explain how it can be downloaded and used by all relevant target groups. 13
