1 News For Neighbours Summer 2014 A socially responsible neighbour Our community investment principles are to be known as a socially responsible neighbour bringing value to NOVA Chemicals and the communities where we have a presence. We invest in the well-being of our communities by lending a hand to organizations dedicated to making a difference and improving the overall quality of life. Manufacturing East Operations 785 Petrolia Line, Corunna, ON N0N 1G0 Tel.: Inn of the Good Shepherd Donation Regional Director, Tom Thompson was very pleased to announce a donation to the Inn of the Good Shepherd after the Inn s recent call to the community for help due to provincial government funding cuts. NOVA Chemicals commitment of $50,000 per year over the next five years ($250,000 in total) represents over 25% of the annual government funding shortfall. In addition to the $250,000 donation, NOVA Chemicals and employees continue to support the Inn of the Good Shepherd through various events and programming including canned food drives, Christmas Adopt-a-Family and the annual CANstruction event. 4 NOVA 2020 Growth Projects Celebrating NOVA Chemicals Commitment to the Sarnia Region During a ceremony at the Corunna Site on January 16, 2014, NOVA Chemicals officially commemorated being the first company in the industry to begin consuming the first barrels of ethane sourced from the Marcellus Shale Basin. Along with representatives from local government, Range Resources and Sunoco Logistics, NOVA Chemicals leadership celebrated this achievement with members of the project team. We are excited to be the first petrochemical company to use this emerging feedstock source as we move toward completion of our cracker revamp and increase the volumes of ethane consumed through the quarter. Our cracker revamp coupled with the availability of new, cost-competitive feedstock sources creates a great foundation for our recently announced growth plans in the Sarnia, Ontario region. Tom Thompson, NOVA Chemicals Regional Manufacturing Director, Sarnia Commemorating the first barrels of Marcellus Shale based ethane at NOVA Chemicals Corunna facility Pictured: MPP Bob Bailey, MPP for Sarnia-Lambton and Tom Thompson, Regional Manufacturing Director, Sarnia. NOVA 2020 Growth Strategy In December 2013 NOVA Chemicals began consuming ethane from the Marcellus Shale basin in western Pennsylvannia and West Virginia. In order to process the new feedstock, our Corunna facility is currently going through upgrades and modifications which are scheduled to be completed by the end of the summer. This next phase of the NOVA 2020 growth strategy, anticipated to take place over the next five years, will concentrate on several cost-effective expansions and upgrades to NOVA Chemicals existing facilities in the Sarnia area including: Corunna Site cracker ethylene capacity expansion; Debottleneck at the Moore Site low-density polyethylene (PE) line; Retrofit of the Moore Site high-density PE line; and Moore Site emissions reduction project. These projects are intended to build on the impact of the Corunna cracker conversion to utilize up to 100% natural gas liquids (NGLs) to enhance NOVA Chemicals capabilities to meet growing and more sophisticated customer demands. During this period, NOVA Chemicals will continue to investigate options for a second AST facility, which could be located in Ontario, the U.S. Gulf Coast or elsewhere in the world, and which would be implemented in the final phase of the NOVA 2020 growth strategy. If you have any questions regarding the NOVA 2020 projects: Please call our toll-free number: Or visit the project website: sarnia-news.aspx 4

6 About NOVA Chemicals NOVA Chemicals manufactures plastics and chemicals for customers worldwide who produce consumer, industrial and packaging products. NOVA Chemicals owns and operates three petrochemical facilities in the Township of St. Clair, in Lambton County, Ontario. As one of the area s largest employers, NOVA Chemicals significantly contributes toward the quality of life in Sarnia-Lambton. We believe community involvement is a strategic imperative in doing business. The Corunna Site is the largest and is located on Petrolia Line, just east of Corunna. The main product, ethylene, is used to produce polyethylene at NOVA Chemicals other facilities and is sold to third parties in the surrounding area. Additionally, the site produces large volumes of associated co-products which are sold to third parties locally and throughout North America. NOVA Chemicals Corunna Site The Moore Site located on Moore Line, near Mooretown, produces polyethylene using ethylene feedstock from the Corunna Site. The St. Clair River Site located on Albert Street in Corunna, produces polyethylene using ethylene feedstock from the Corunna Site. Letter from Regional Manufacturing Director As we head into the Summer of 2014, I appreciate the opportunity to share with you the good efforts taking place at our facilities. Keeping the communities in which we operate informed is part of being a good neighbour and is important to us at NOVA Chemicals. A very significant milestone was reached on May 28, 2014 as we celebrated 200 days zero recordable injuries across all of our sites. We have seen mass improvements since our implementation of a new Safety Improvement Strategy launched last year. We continue to strive to keep our employees, facilities, and community safe and healthy. Significant progress has been made over the last year on our growth projects with the revamp of our Corunna facility almost to completion and our ethane consumption anticipated to be at full capacity by the Fall of this year. I am excited about the second phase of our growth projects and continuing investments in the local region. We are dedicated to the communities in which we live and operate. More illustrations of this commitment can be found in this issue of our newsletter. In closing, I would like to wish you and your families a safe and healthy summer.
