2 We would like to extend our warmest invitation to you to participate in the Business Club s Spring Student Academic Symposium. The objective of the event is to educate our students by giving them an opportunity to present to an audience of their peers on current business practices. The theme of the symposium is Educating & Inspiring Tomorrow s Leaders. A student from any major can submit their business related topic to be presented at the symposium. Five different topics will be chosen for the Symposium. This event is open to all students at Daytona State College. Scholars are likely to share their research on diverse and contemporary themes drawn from Business Writing, Management Theory & Practice, Legal Ethical and Social Aspects of Business, Organizational Behavior, Customer Relations, Introduction to Management Information Systems, Accounting, Leadership Challenges in Supervision, Operation Decision Making, Strategic Planning, Human Resource Management, Capstone, Selected Topics, Marketing, and any other business related course offered at Daytona State College. We look forward to welcoming you. Sample Topics: Balancing Work and Play (Time-Management), Effective Communication, Increase your Hiring Potential, Stress Management, Financial Management, or any pertinent business related topic CALL FOR PROPOSALS PRESENTER GUIDELINES: SUBMISSION OF AN ABSTRACT, TOPIC OF INTEREST OR PROPOSAL WILL BE ACCEPTED FOR THE PURPOSE OF REGISTRATION. 4 1 st Student Leadership Academic Symposium: Presenter Guidelines PHOTO (Disclaimer: For consideration, please follow these guidelines) 1. A photo must be provided for the program, proceedings and/or the academic symposium website. Photo must be in color, high resolution (at least 1500 px). A photo taken with a camera that is at least 7 megapixels should work fine. 2. Photo should be a head and shoulder shot BIO 1. Please send us a bio which may be included in the program, proceedings and/or the website. 2. Please follow the format as stated in the example below. A resume or CV may be sent for our reference (only). Example of Bio Mulan Hyu Mulan is a junior in the Bachelor of Applied Science in Supervision and Management Program (BAS). Prior to his enrollment into the BAS program, he earned his Associate of Arts Degree in Communication and his Associate of Science degree in Paralegal Studies. He completed both degrees with honors. While matriculating through the BAS Program, Mulan finds himself interested in learning about Women s Studies, Project Management, Human Resources, Accounting and Law. He knows that his interests are broad, but he has a fascination with learning and the application of that knowledge. Outside of the school, he attends local Chamber of Commerce meetings for Volusia and Flagler counties. He also volunteers at two local animal shelters. When Mulan is not in school and when is not preoccupied by other local activities. He enjoys spending time reading books on strategies for success. He also loves to spend a great deal of time with his family. Right now, Mulan is near completion with his second semester of his junior year. Upon completion of his junior year of studies, Mulan would like to earn his Project Management certificate, minor in Human Resource Management, eventually study to earn his certified public accountant s license and pass the bar for the State of Florida. 4
5 PROPOSAL 1. Final papers must be provided 2-3 weeks prior to the symposium. It is encouraged that all papers be sent to the DSC/UCF Writing Center prior to submission. 2. All proposals must be written in English. Proposals should be submitted electronically in double-spaced APA format, using a 12-point font size (preferably Times New Roman). In addition, all graphics and tables should be inserted within the file in the appropriate location in the paper. Papers sent with separate graphic files will not be approved. 2. All proposals must be submitted electronically. No hard copy or disk-provided articles will be accepted. Please do not send compressed files. Files must be sent using Microsoft Word or RTF format. 3. The suggested maximum length for a proposal is two double-spaced pages. 4. Again, authors are responsible for providing adequate editing prior to submitting their proposals. Any proposal with excessive spelling, punctuation, sentence structure, or other mechanical problems will be returned to the author. PROPOSAL FORMAT 1. Reference to Guidelines (Refer to page three) 2. Proposal should include: a. Title b. Abstract (50 words) c. Topic of Interest (Example of topic: Time Management, Learning to Appreciate Women s Studies etc.,) 3. Page length two pages 4. Proposal and Presentation Deadline is February 12, Acceptance Letter will be sent to you by February 29, 2016 PRESENTATION 1. Your PowerPoint presentation must be provided 1-2 weeks prior to the academic symposium (no later than March 28, 2016). We load these files prior to the academic symposium for smoother transition. 2. You are allotted 20 to 25 minutes per session. 3. We provide the projector, projector screen, wireless clicker, and laser pointer. 4. If you have updates to your PowerPoint, presentation after submission, please feel free to bring the revised version on a CD/DVD or thumb drive. 5. Please see the attached PPT for additional guidelines on creating a PowerPoint presentation. 6. Include the Daytona State College logo in all the slides. 7. Business Attire Preferred 5

This will apply towards both an invitation for attendance as well as issuance of the letter of acceptance for submitted and approved abstracts for presentation.
