2 What are Competitive Scholarships? Money for your creativity and hard work! 300+ individual awards via one online application Based only on the Behance project or Google Doc (for Art History/HMST Majors) you submit Applied directly to your semester bill. No checks or credits to process.

3 Who receives Competitive Scholarships? Eligible students Are undergraduates Are enrolled full-time Are returning full-time next academic year Have a 3.0 or higher cumulative GPA Do not receive tuition remission benefits

4 How to apply: Between Dec. 1, 2018 and Feb. 6, 2019: 1. Create a Behance project or Google Document 2. Apply at

5 What to include in your project You may choose to provide any one of the following types of applications for review by the jury: 1. Up to 10 digital images. 300 dpi No larger than 7 on the longest side.jpeg or.gif formatted (.gif loop length must be 18 seconds or shorter) 2. Up to 3 minutes of media. Video, animation, audio, or documentation of time-based work.mp3,.mp4, or.mov format Files may contain one media work or several cut together into one file You may include a caption with the title and date of your work For video documentation of time-based art, performance, or installation, any sound must be part of the original work, not added for the purpose of the scholarship review. However, voice-over to assist in clarification or to set the stage is acceptable. It may not be used to describe meaning, technique, your process, interpretation, or intention. 3. Up to 5 digital images and up to 1 minute 30 seconds of media. 4. Interactive work. Provide a link to a webpage with interactive work instead of a Behance project Juries will spend 3 minutes viewing/interacting with the work 5. Written work. Available to Art History or HMST majors only Provide a link to a Google Document of up to 2500 words in length instead of a Behance project Document s Sharing Settings must be set to Anyone with the link can view May be one paper or several smaller works combined into one document Acceptable art historical writing may be (but not limited to): exhibitions reviews, research papers, essays, or formal analyses. Acceptable Humanistic Studies writing may be: book reviews, research papers, essays, formal analysis or original creative writing.

6 Creating a project in Behance 1. Go to portfolios.mica.edu 2. Click About

7 3. Click Join MICA Portfolios

8 4. Enter your MICA and follow the prompts to complete your account creation (if you already have an Adobe ID, click sign in )

9 4. Log into portfolios.mica.edu. On the Dashboard tab, click Add Work on Behance

10 5. Build your project by uploading images, media, and/or embedding files

11 6. When you re done adding images/media, click Continue

12 7. A Project Settings box will open. Make sure that on the Display tab, under Networks, both Behance and MICA Portfolios are shown. (You may enter as much info on the Basic Info and Discoverability tabs as you choose. This info will not be used for Competitive Scholarships.) 8. Click Publish

13 8. View your new project. When you are ready to apply for Competitive Scholarships, copy the URL of your project.

14 Applying for Competitive Scholarships Now that your have a Behance project, you re ready to apply for Competitive Scholarships! 1. Go to 2. Log in with your MICA username and password

15 3. Agree to the terms of application, and click Get Started (If you get a message that says It looks like you re not eligible for Competitive Scholarships instead of this screen, the system has determined that you do not meet the application eligibility requirements.)

16 4. Read and agree or disagree* with the Student Acknowledgement and click Save and Continue *This does not affect your eligibility for Competitive Scholarships.

17 6. Paste the URL of your Behance Project into the Submission URL field, and click Save and Continue (If you are submitting your interactive work or a Google Doc instead of a Behance project, put that link here instead.)

18 7. Review your responses and if everything looks good, click Submit Application A confirmation will be sent to your mica.edu address. Don t delete, this will have your confirmation number.

19 You re done! What happens next Your application will be reviewed by two juries: 1. A jury made up of faculty from your major NOTE: All first-year students are FYE Majors 2. A jury of faculty from a variety of majors The jury of faculty from your major, your Departmental Jury, selects the recipients of awards restricted to students in that department. The jury of mixed faculty, your Scholarship Jury, will give each applicant a score. These scores are used to rank every applicant and match applicants with awards that are not restricted by major.

20 What happens next Once all the awards have been matched with eligible applicants, an award notification will be sent to your mica.edu address All applicants will receive a notification by mid-march Students who received awards funded by donors may be asked to write a thank-you letter
