2 Grant Process Overview Step 1: Organizations complete an online application within one of three Impact Areas. 3 Grant Process Overview Step 2: Applications are read and evaluated by impact volunteers. Step 4: Funding recommendations are presented to the Board. Step 5: Award notifications & contracts are sent to the organizations.

4 Grant Process Overview To be eligible for a grant from United Way of Clark, Champaign & Madison Counties, organizations must meet all of the following criteria: Have nonprofit status under state law Have paid or volunteer staff and a governing board that holds regular meetings Provide services in Clark, Champaign or Madison Counties Provide services without discrimination on the basis of race, sex, creed, age or national origin Online Application: Links to the online application, budget template and a copy of the scoring rubric can be found on the United Way website, under the Our Agencies tab. If applying within Clark and Champaign County, you must use the application that corresponds to the appropriate impact area. You may apply within multiple impact areas, but separate applications must be submitted. In Madison County, one application is used for all three impact areas. 5 Past Evaluation Criteria 1. The purpose of this program reflects a high priority community need. 2. The benefit that program participants receive from this program is clear. 3. The success measure for the program is stated in specific and measurable terms. 4. There is sufficient information to understand the outcome of this program. 5. The financial data is clear and appropriate. Rating Scale: Strongly Agree to Strongly Disagree

6 New Evaluation Criteria The scoring rubric will be used as a baseline score for all submitted programs. Each program can earn up to 100 points Each program submitted will be scored individually by impact committee members. Based on the submitted scores, the average score will be calculated for each program. To eliminate outliers, only scores within 30 points of each other will be included for the average Programs that receive an average of 50 points or less will not be considered for funding. Each program s average score will be given to the committee to help facilitate funding recommendation discussions.

8 New Evaluation Criteria Section 1: Organizational Background Total Points Possible: 10 Areas of Importance: Provided the organization s mission statement and a summary of the organizations main programs, projects or activities. Provided sufficient staff, board member and volunteer information. Provided organization s top three funding sources and endowment information.

9 New Evaluation Criteria Section 2: Program Background Total Points Possible: 10 Areas of Importance: Proposed program clearly aligns with one of United Way s Impact Areas (health, education or financial stability). The program has been in operation for more than 3 years. Provided list of other funders that support or have been approached for support of the proposed program.

10 Section 3: Program Narrative Total Points Possible: 25 New Evaluation Criteria Areas of Importance: Proposed program addresses a current need in the community and provides local evidence that indicates the need of the program. Provided target population information and has a clear way of tracking the percentage of low to moderate income individuals served by the program. Proposed program is the most effective to address the stated need and is based on research and proven practices.

11 Section 4: Program Plan/Evaluation Total Points Possible: 35 New Evaluation Criteria Areas of Importance: The resources and activities/timeline of the proposed program are realistic and obtainable. Proposed program effectively partners/collaborates with other community organizations to increase the impact of the program. Provided clear OUTPUTS of the program. Provided clear OUTCOMES of the proposed program that are Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Time Bound. There is a clear and effective measurement/evaluation tool used to evaluate the proposed program. Provided a successful case study of the proposed program.

12 New Evaluation Criteria Section 5: Program Budget Information Total Points Possible: 20 Areas of Importance: Provided a clear, logical and balanced budget for the proposed program. There is an organizational need for United Way funding. Provided adequate explanation for any significant budget variances. Provided a clear explanation of how United Way funds will be used and the impact funding will have on the success of the proposed program. Provided a realistic plan to sustain the program if requested funding is not received.
