Theta Crescent Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity Spring Noble Ruler Report University of Missouri Throughout the past year Theta Chapter has continued a legacy of excellence. Perhaps the best way to summarize our year would be to point out the IFC Spotlight Chapter banner hanging on our house. This is an honor given monthly to the chapter on campus that has upheld the values of Greek Life more than any other. We have received this honor twice this spring semester alone. We are extremely proud of the accomplishments of both our individual members and our Chapter as a whole this year. As we move into the next school year, we all look forward to continuing this legacy. We not only strive to maintain our position as a premier fraternity, but we also work to continually improve our Chapter by maintaining the highest standards of recruitment, commitment, education and recognition by brothers sharing a common bond in the broad field of agriculture. 2 Founders Day On March 3, 2012, Theta Chapter celebrated the 96th year of our founding. Brothers traveled from far and wide to celebrate our brotherhood, reminisce about good times, and renew the spirit that is Mizzou and AGR. Activities included a continental breakfast, the annual business meeting, a luncheon, silent auction, awards and recognitions. The photos on these two pages reflect the great day that it was. The following Chapter Awards were given out during the Founders Day celebration: Top Scholar: Kelsey Flynn (22 hours-4.0) Big/Little Brother Scholarship:Tyler Schwader and Cody Jones Most improved Grades: Ryan Shoffner Jerry Litton Outstanding New Member: Rob Gorrell Outstanding New Members: Ricky Schwendemann and Andrew Fisher Cecil Keasler Outstanding Sophomore: Christopher Hudson Cecil Keasler Outstanding Junior: Jacob Buelher On Campus Leader: Brandon Thiel Most Active Member: Dalton Brown Most Athletic Member: Joe Maurer Newsom-Frazier Scholarship: Chris Hudson Thorne Scholarship: Chris Hudson Max Glover Scholarship: Jared Main Crescent Publishing Service This issue of the Theta Chapter Crescent was published through the Crescent Publishing Service (CPS). This is a special project of the Alpha Gamma Rho Home Office to assist chapters in improving communications with alumni. Chapters pay a small fee for the service below the actual production cost to encourage regular contact. This project is made possible by donations from alumni like you. Please consider contributing.

Here s what some of our alumni had to say: Founders Day (Cont.) First of all, I would like to express my appreciation to the undergraduate chapter for all their work and effort in making this Founders Day very special to me. It was such a pleasure to see the brothers whom I had not seen for too many years. The time we spent reminiscing brought back some wonderful memories. As we 50-year members advance in years, I sincerely hope we can get together again soon at a future Founders Day and continue the celebration of being Alpha Gamma Rho members. Thank you again. -Bob Clinkscales It was great getting back for Founders Day and visiting with some friends it s been too long since I last saw. Minta and I had a great time. My only disappointment was missing the opportunity to see some additional fellows from in and around my class who couldn t make it to the event. What was the opposite of disappointment is the pure joy I feel in seeing where the Chapter is today. Through the efforts of some very dedicated alumni and the everyday work and commitment of our collegiate brothers, Theta Chapter is a leader, both on the Mizzou campus and within the ranks of Alpha Gamma Rho. It was also nice to have the opportunity to see my sister Marty. Her dedication to making the event successful, as well as her work every day with all the brothers, is why she s considered one of the top AGR housemothers in the nation. -Charlie Napier Wonderful to be back home at AGR. With brothers of 50 years reconnecting-what a wonderful experience. -Ed Wellever Photo captions: #1: Brothers Cory Gregg (left) and Bob Clinkscales (right) get a moment to enjoy each other s company. #2: Brothers Lowell Newsom (left) and Ken Morrison (right) share a few laughs after the awards and recognitions. #3: Attending members of the 50 year anniversary 1962 initiate class (from left): Bob Clinkscales, Leroy Burkemper, Jerry Woodham, Ed Wellever and Charlie Napier. #4: Attending members of the 10 year anniversary 2002 initiate class (from left): Aaron Pughbauer, Matt Stuever, Phillip Snodgrass, Cory Robinson, Cory Gregg, Kyle Fischer and Luke Thurman

Barr, McCartney and Ellis Recognized Brothers Steve Barr 69, Jack McCartney 69 and Steve Ellis 71 were inducted into the MU Ag. Alumni Association s Agricultural Alumni Leadership Society on April 12, 2012, in conjunction with the CAFNR Celebration of Excellence. Barr is founder and past CEO of Osborn & Barr, an agricultural communications, marketing and public relations firm headquartered in St. Louis. Steve is also a past executive in residence at CAFNR. His firm also employs Brothers Tyler Kelly 93 and Jason Gerke 92 in its Kansas City office. Jack is a seed adviser for Garst Seed Co. and a farm owner/operator with his brothers north of Kirksville. (Note: His four brothers are also Theta AGRs). Ellis currently advises the AGR Building Association Board of Directors and serves as a senior consultant for the National Fraternity. Obviously each of them has also rendered service to CAFNR, in many ways and for many years. Their plaques read (in part): In appreciation for your exceptional service and tireless efforts to provide leadership to the MU Ag. Alumni Association and the College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources. Our three newest inductees were joined that day and From left: Jack McCartney, Steve Barr and Steve Ellis evening by Brothers Doug Thomas 79, Bud Hertzog 49, Thomas Payne 01, Jim Spain 03, Lloyd Wilson 84, Jon Hagler 11, Lowell Mohler 57 and James Hundle 10; as well as with collegiate Brothers Matt Eisenbath, Avery Fisher, Brandon Thiel and Britt Kagay. These recognitions remind us that no fraternity can be any stronger than the college to which it owes it s existence.

Theta Brothers and Others Travel Together From left: Jay Graeser 68, Clark Atteberry 66, Gordon Lyons 63, Dennis Mueller 65, Jim Moellering 67, Dick Burkemper 66, Phil Witte 64 and Steve Ellis 71. Absent for the photo were Price Brattin 67 and Bill Lyons 66. Way back in the mid-1970s, a group of (then) young AGR alumni, with a little bit of time, very little treasure, but a lot of talent began to get together socially to renew acquaintance and enjoy the competition of golf. Over the succeeding (almost) 40 years the group size and composition has varied. The locations have been diverse, but the intent has continued: to get away from the daily grind, have some fun and strengthen our bonds with one another. For the past 8 years, the group has been meeting in Las Vegas and then driving to Laughlin, Nev. to play golf and wager on the NCAA basketball games. Other Mizzou alumni, work associates, high school friends, neighbors from back home and relatives have also joined the group. The hardest challenges the group faces are standing still for a group photo, recruiting some new blood to join them, and keep the event going into the future. We invite any AGR, regardless of era or skill to contact us by phone or via . Let us hear from you! Finally, just in case you wondered, we play from the white tees, usually a scramble or shamble, and we celebrate the connection to our broader and better agriculture with a bit of vino or grain-based beverage at the awards banquet held at the conclusion of each day s competition. As a side note, one of the neighbors who has attended for several years told Brother Brattin, As I hear these stories, your fraternity certainly had a lot of fun building these lifelong relationships with one another. Brattin s reply, Well, yeah. Price Brattin pricebrattin@buenosoftware.com John Atteberry johnatteberry@sbcglobal.net Alumni Photo and AGR Classic A group of Theta AGRs celebrated a birthday in Carrollton, Mo. recently. From left: Dan Prosser, Kyle Malter, Steve Ellis, Mike McCartney, Mike Miller and Tom Albertson. Dr. Malter is Miller s son-in-law. The others are classmates. Theta Chapter held the 2012 AGR Classic at Boone County Fairgrounds Feb. 4 and 5. The show had a great turnout as nearly 300 exhibitors from the states of Indiana, Illinois, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Iowa, Kentucky, California and Wisconsin attended. Tri-directors for the show included Chase Heath, Michael Gillum and Michael Schieffer.

Alumni Spotlight On April 9 and 10, Brother Richard Maltsbarger (Theta 93) visited Mizzou as an executive-in-residence for the College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources. While on campus, CAFNR hosted a lunch in his honor at the Chapter House. Richard was joined by his brothers, Robert (Theta 95) and Ryland Richard Maltsbarger (Theta 97) as well as AGR Brothers Chris Fender (Theta 92), Ryan Milhollin (Theta 98) and Dr. Michael Monson (Theta 04). The collegiate members enjoyed meeting all of these AGR brothers and sharing a great lunch with them. While Richard was here to share his vast knowledge and business experiences with students enrolled in both Ag and Business classes, we are glad he took time to share his AGR experiences with us. Richard has served as senior vice president of strategy for Lowe s since January He joined the company in 2004 and previously served as vice president of strategic planning, vice president of research and director of customer analytics. In his role, he is responsible for guiding corporate strategy planning and alignment processes, managing the strategic portfolio management office for key corporate initiatives, and leading the business process management and improvement organization. Through these teams, he is accountable for helping to guide the connection between corporate strategy, business planning, initiative delivery and ongoing business process design and improvement to realize Lowe s future. Mr. Maltsbarger has more than 17 years of strategic planning, retail strategy development, consumer and market research, quantitative analytics, enterprise information management, business process management, social and collaborative technology, marketing and advertising, government affairs and economic analysis experience.
