2 Who are we?, the umbrella organisation for the South African plastics industry is registered as a Section 21 company, an association not for gain and is funded by grants based on sales of locally manufactured plastics raw material and contributions from other associations and importers. Together with our associations we play an active role in the growth and development of the South African plastics industry. We strive to address plastics related issues, influence role players and to make plastics the material of choice. represents all sectors of the South African Plastics Industry including polymer producers and importers, converters, machine suppliers and recyclers. 2

3 Our Focus Areas Advocacy: accessing and influencing key decision-makers, policies and strategies that affect our industry. Member Services: are provided to companies who belong to their respective industry associations and pay the membership fees. Sustainability: in conjunction with the polymer groups, providing strategic leadership to the plastics industry on environmental issues. Research: acquiring and compiling industry statistics, as well as research of strategic interest to the industry. Training: developing career paths to meet the needs of the plastics industry, as reflected in the strategic development strategy. Courses are accredited NQF aligned. Communication: relevant industry issues are shared with industry role players, the media and the general public.

7 PlasticsǀSA Bioplastics Seminar The first Bio-Plastics Seminar was held on 2 June 2015 with Prof. Christian Bonten IKT (Institut für Kunststofftechnik), Prof. Linda Godfrey (CSIR) and Anton Hanekom (PlasticsǀSA). 125 Delegates attended the seminar. 10 Germany Trip Institute of Plastics Technology (IKT) - Stuttgart and Bioplastics Conference - Berlin

11 IKT Stuttgart (Germany) Prof. Christian Bonten from IKT (Institute of Plastics Technology), invited PlasticsǀSA to visit the Institute and learn more about Bioplastics. 13 Bioplastics Conference 5-6 November 2015 International Trends: Danone replacing all Polystyrene with PLA in Europe. Coca Cola 100% Bio-based PET bottle by (Current research - Replacing PET bottles with PEF Polyethylene Furanoate) By 2025, all carrier bags must be 60% bio-based (France). PLA capsules replacing traditional pods, made from Polypropylene + Aluminium. European Bioplastics are opposed to using oxo-degradable additives. Bio Technology The Future Generating Hydrogen and CO 2 from Solar, to produce Hydrocarbons/Plastics (Unlimited quantities)

14 2016 Objectives South African Bioplastics Forum Outcome of Bioplastics Seminar: Establish a South African Bioplastics Forum. Identify current role partners in the bioplastics sector. Work with plastic raw material suppliers, converters and recyclers. Work together other stakeholders, DST (Bio-economy), CSIR (Research) and Waste Management Industry.
