Awards: Leveraging H.E.A.R.T. A Surprising Gift Secretariat s Wall of Excellence Office of Graduate Studies & Research, Act of Kindnes Stay Connected Thank You Sir John Golding Rehabilitation Centre Campus Registrar s Awards 2016 Long Service Awardees IMPORTANT DATES TO OBSERVE Semester II began January 15, 2017 It is indeed a pleasure to present to you another edition of The Register. The Register is aimed at both sharing happenings of The Office of the Campus Registrar, and also providing information that we believe will be beneficial to our students and staff. Since our last edition we have continued our drive to create more efficient processes as we strive to make UWI the University of choice for all. Our team has also been quite busy creating and launching staff engagement initiatives, some of which we are pleased to showcase in this edition. Let me use this opportunity to congratulate those Sections of the Office of the Campus Registrar, who in the face of the financial constraints, have been innovative and resourceful in their efforts to create an environment where our staff can feel a part of a team. As Henry Ford said, Coming together is a beginning. Keeping together is progress. Working together is success. Do enjoy this edition! Teaching began January 16, 2017 We welcome your feedback. 2 MRS. RODINA REID S BOOK LAUNCH It is with pride that we acknowledge the accomplishment of our very own Mrs. Rodina Reid, former Senior Assistant Registrar, Secretariat, who on February 2, 2017 launched her book entitled, The UWI Chapel A Voice from the Past a Vision for the Future. The book provides a history of the various gifts that were contributed to The UWI Chapel in a beautiful picturesque fashion, reflecting extensive research and Mrs. Reid s creative and vibrant writing style. Mrs. Reid had developed a love and interest in the history of The Chapel in 1998 when she was given responsibilities to manage it as the Assistant Registrar, Secretariat. She initially did a booklet in 2001 which focused on the history and current use of the Chapel with photographs to identify what had been documented. However, this booklet did not include the many gifts that were donated or funded by individuals or religious denominations. This shortfall caused Mrs. Reid to do further research into our humongous archive, successfully unearthing and unraveling her findings for our indulgence. We are grateful to the Principal, Prof Archibald McDonald, who unhesitantly agreed to support the publication of this book because of the obvious tremendous value that it brings to The University of the West Indies and for also agreeing to have the proceeds donated to the OCR s Needy Students Fund. Mrs. Reid s work will undoubtedly be a lasting gift to The UWI.
Canada-CARICOM and CARPIMS Staff Mobility Scholarship Winners Left Right: Ms. Althea Gordon, Miss Shantal Cover, Ms. Marilyn Sheriff and Mrs. Primrose Brown The Office of the Campus Registrar is pleased to announce that four of its members are recipients of international staff mobility scholarships for the 2016/2017 academic year. The awardees are: Mrs. Primrose Brown - Marketing, Recruitment and Communication Office Ms. Marilyn Sheriff - Human Resource Management Division Miss Shantal Cover - International Students Office Ms. Althea Gordon - International Students Office Mrs. Brown, Ms. Sheriff and Ms Cover visited universities in Canada for 2 weeks to observe best practices in their chosen fields while Ms. Gordon visited the National University of Samoa in the South Pacific for one month.
Employee Engagement Leveraging H.E.A.R.T. One way to become a world class university is to own and practice values that will foster good working relationships and provide service that will wow our customers. The Office of the Campus Registrar hopes to achieve this through its alignment to the UWI Strategic Plan in engendering a culture of Employee Engagement and Development. Various initiatives have been launched in several sections in The Registry to aid in creating an environment where staff feel valued and where we hope would be attractive for potential employees. Left-Right: Ms. Audrey Forbes, Ms. Sandra Pusey, Dr. Camille Bell-Hutchinson and Ms. Carmen Smith Surprising Gift In December 2016, The Campus Registrar, Dr. Camille Bell-Hutchinson, was The Registry s Gift Bearer, or as some would say, Santa Clause under the guise of the Campus Registrar. She walked into each section bearing gifts to each member of staff in appreciation of their hard work and support to the Registry.
THE SECRETARIAT S WALL OF EXCELLENCE The Secretariat launched its Staff Incentive Award Schemes on April 11, 2016, and also unveiled its H.E.A.R.T. Wall of Excellence. The unveiling was done by specially invited guests Mrs. Georgia Anderson from the Examinations Section and Mr. Jonathan Archie from the Open Campus. Members of staff in the Secretariat expressed that this is an initiative that is very important because HEART Matters. The unveiling of the Wall of Excellence was followed by the launch of the following awards, and presentations were made for the first three: The Above and Beyond the Call of Duty (ABCD) Awards, the AR s Choice Awards, Special Recognition, Beat the Deadline Award and Productivity Award. The awardees for Semester 1 were Shenae Samuels ABCD Award, Sean Stephens ABCD Award and Nathanee Martin ARs Choice Award. The Auxiliary Staff received the Special Recognition Award.
OFFICE OF GRADUATE STUDIES & RESEARCH Act of Kindness The Office of Graduate Studies & Research conducted a workshop in March 2016, and thereafter embarked on a number of Employee Engagement Initiatives with the aim of building camaraderie among staff. One such engagement initiative was dubbed Act of Kindness. This is where members of staff randomly selects a colleague s name and the person chosen is treated to something special. This initiative was well-received and has stimulated greater care and concern among staff. Below are a few pictures of staff in the act of showing kindness. Welton Junor surprised Angela Walters with a beautiful gift Lacey Gordon sharing a slice of cake with Kemorine Myers Dorcia Watson sprang a nice surprise on Nardalee Powis while she was busy scanning documents
Stay Connected Students! We want to encourage you to stay connected to the University s information platforms, so that you will always remain in the know concerning events and activities on Campus and, importantly, receive vital notices of importance to you. The Office of the Campus Registrar posts information from time to time on these platforms as it relates to, registration, security, graduation etc. Your private address is not the official medium to which such notices will be sent. So get your UWI address active today! We also encourage you to remain in the know by visiting OURVLE or my.uwi.edu. or our social media pages. We are on Facebook (UWI Mona Student Space), Twitter, Instagram, Flickr, and Google+. THANK YOU - Sir John Golding Rehabilitation Each year the Office of the Campus Registrar joins hands and hearts in spreading Christmas cheer to children at the Sir John Golding Rehabilitation Centre. The Campus Registrar wishes to extend her appreciation to those members of staff for their cheerful support in having made our last visit another happy occasion for the children.
