The Pirates have split their last four while suffering a 3-2 loss against Wright State last season after leading the match 2-0. ECU is when beginning a new year. SOME FAMILIARITY THERE: The Pirates will face a familiar foe in its opening match of the tournament as East Carolina and Charlotte square off for the 25th time. In the most recent meeting, which occurred in 2005, the Pirates captured a 3-1 victory as part of a record - the last time the program won 20 matches in a campaign. A FIRST TIME FOR EVERYTHING: East Carolina will battle Cleveland State for the first time program history in match two of the East Carolina Classic. The Vikings hail from the Horizon League and have appeared in the conference tournament championship game the past three years. CSU won the event in 2007 to qualify for its first-ever NCAA Tournament. BRING THE FIRE EXTINGUISHER: The Pirates are looking to defeat Liberty for the first time after dropping all four previous meetings between the schools. Most recently, the Lady Flames dispatched ECU in four sets during the 2003 season at the Liberty Invitational. HAVE WE MET?: Having said goodbye to five seniors from last year s squad, the Pirates welcome the future of East Carolina Volleyball in 2010 as eight newcomers join the roster. Six freshman and a junior transfer will don the purple and gold while former Pirate softball standout Marina Gusman-Brown will finish her time at ECU as a spiker. A HISTORY LESSON: This season s East Carolina Classic will be the third since the event s inception in The Pirates hold a 5-1 record in tournament history with its lone loss at the hands of Conference USA foe Marshall. ECU won the Classic in 2008, sweeping East Tennessee State, Howard and High Point. The Pirates other two wins in 2006 were 3-0 decisions against Wisconsin-Green Bay and Grambling State SEASON STATISTICAL COMPARISON ECU CHARLOTTE CSU LIBERTY Record Hitting Percentage Kills 1,147 1,346 1,689 1,666 Kills/Set ,052 1,220 1,561 1,560 /Set Aces Aces/Set ,231 1,532 1,921 1,909 /Set Blocks/Set

Her 421 career victories make her one of only 45 active coaches at the NCAA Division I level with at least 400 total wins. Rolf compiled a overall record, including a mark in conference play, during her sevenyear stay at Marquette. From 2004 to 2006, she led the Golden Eagles to three-straight winning seasons for the first time in program history and guided MU to the Big East Tournament semi-finals in 2006 and the Conference USA Tournament finals in Her 2004 squad also finished with 22 wins, the highest total in the program s Division I history. Prior to her stint at MU, Rolf spent 14 years heading the University of Minnesota-Duluth program, where she compiled an overall record of (.647). Her 310 wins rank among the top 25 in Division II history. The four-time Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Coach-of-the-Year guided the Bulldogs to a (.892) NSIC record, a mark which also included 11 league titles. She led UMD to the NCAA Division II Regional Tournament three times (1991, 1994 and 1998) and averaged 22 wins a season during her 14 campaigns. Rolf has also gained coaching experience at the Junior Olympic level, serving as an assistant at both the 1992 and 1993 USA Volleyball Women s Junior Elite Camp in Colorado Springs and at the 1994 U.S. Olympic Festival in St. Louis. Her commitment to understanding all facets of the game enabled Rolf to receive her Federation Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB) International Officiating Certificate in 2003, making her just one of 15 female international officials in the world. The Professional Association of Volleyball Officials (PAVO) Hall of Fame member has been a registered national volleyball official since 1990 and worked as a line judge in both the men s and women s volleyball competitions (including the women s gold medal match) at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta. In the summer of 2004, Rolf also officiated matches in St. Petersburg, Russia and at the World Military Games. In the summer of 2005, she served as an official at the 2006 World Championships Qualifying Tournament in Guatemala. The summer of 2007 saw her officiate at the Pan American Games in Brazil before Rolf gained even more experience by working a FIVB World League matchup between China and the United States in This past summer, she traveled to San Carlo, Brazil to officiate a pair of matches at the 2010 FIVB Grand Prix. A native of Hopkins, Minn., Rolf was a four-year volleyball letterwinner at North Dakota State University ( ) where she graduated with a bachelor s degree in university studies. As a senior, she captained the Bison while gaining NCAA Division II All-Region and All-North Central Conference (NCC) honors. She distinguished herself in the classroom as well, earning NCC All-Academic honors twice. In October of 1999, she was inducted into the NDSU Athletic Hall of Fame. By the time her career had concluded, Rolf set a NCAA career record for matches played. She did not sit out a single set during those four seasons and is still known as the ironwoman of volleyball. On May 8, 2006, Rolf added yet another honor to her resume as she was part of Hopkins (Minn.) High School s first Hall of Fame class. Rolf was a multi-sport letterwinner in the early 1980s at Hopkins and earned the Athena Award as the schools top female athlete. Rolf served on the board of directors of the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) from 1995 through 1998 and has been a member of the National Ranking Committee since Additionally, she served on the Duluth Public Schools Board of Education from and has been on the North Dakota State Alumni Association Board of Directors since ROLF YEAR-BY-YEAR ROLF AT-A-GLANCE COACHING EXPERIENCE Head Coach at Minnesota-Duluth from Head Coach at Marquette from Head Coach at East Carolina from 2009-present PLAYING EXPERIENCE Four-Year Letterwinner - Hopkins High School (Minn.) from Four-Year Letterwinner - North Dakota State from PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE : Big Ten Conference Official : AVCA Board of Directors 1996: Line Judge: Olympic Games in Atlanta, Ga : Duluth Public Schools Board of Education member : United State Professional Volleyball Official 2007: Pan American Games Official : FIVB World League Official 2009: NDSU Alumni Association Board of Directors 2010: FIVB Grand Prix Official SEASON PROGRAM RECORD PCT.
