The SRM hosted tour will have transportation available to the Ranch. Wyoming Department of Agriculture Lab: Tour the Wyoming Department of Agriculture Services Laboratory (ASL) to see how environmental samples are prepared and tested. ASL performs a variety of analysis on water, meat, milk, animal feed, fertilizer, fuel, pesticide and forage. ASL recently obtained new state-of-the-art equipment for some of our high volume tests. Meet ASL staff performing the analysis, learn how we prioritize samples, and get questions answered regarding testing that you may be performing or may impact your district. UW School of Energy, Energy Innovation Center: The tour will take guests throughout the building to learn more about the advanced laboratory spaces within the EIC and the current energy research being conducted by SER faculty and research scientists. The EIC s Shell 3-D Visualization Center (Viz Center) proudly houses the only

2 four-walled, 3-D CAVE (Cave Automatic Virtual Environment) in Wyoming. The Viz Center s mission is To create and maintain a community of empowered users who will drive the enhancement of teaching and research at UW, by utilizing visualization technology and embracing collaborative multidisciplinary opportunities. The Viz Center beautifully complements the primary function of the EIC-- to enable scientists and engineers to visualize and interact with highly complex and data sets. UW Geological Museum: The tour of the University of Wyoming Geological Museum will highlight some of Wyoming s most famous and important fossils. We will begin with Wyoming s earliest fossil, a 2 billion year old stromatolite collected from the Medicine Bow Mountains, followed by a discussion on the discovery of fossils in Wyoming under our fully mounted Apatosaurus ajax (Brontosaurus) skeleton found at the original site of dinosaur discovery. Lastly, we ll take a look at Big Al, our incredibly complete Allosaurus whose bones tell a tragic story of pain, survival, and death. The tour will take approximately 45 minutes, then guests will have time to look around the museum on their own. 1 5 p.m. X Bar Ranch Tour hosted by Wyoming SRM On December 27, 2007 the X Bar Ranch was acquired as State Trust Land as the result of an exchange of 41 separate parcels totaling 21,276 acres. The Ranch is made up 11,973 acres in Albany County west of Laramie, and is managed for the benefit of the common school (K-12) permanent land and income funds. The Ranch is comprised of gravelly uplands and very productive sub-irrigated lowlands. The Ranch also has five center pivots that are used to produce hay and highly productive grazing forage. The current lessee is managing the Ranch as a yearling operation and is used in concert with many other ranches in the Laramie Valley and southeast Wyoming. Currently, the Ranch supports 3,000 head of yearlings and 150 cow-calf pairs from the hay produced off of the pivots and from the sub-irrigated fields along with the upland native range. The Ranch is enrolled in a Wyoming Game & Fish Department (WGFD) sponsored Hunter Management Area (HMA) to ensure a safe and rewarding recreational experience.
