Daniels, Ph.D. Steven E. Daniels, Ph.D., is a Specialist for Community Development in University Extension at Utah State University and a Professor in the Department of Sociology, Social Work, and Anthropology and in the Department of Environment and Society. Previously, he was Director of the Western Rural Development Center at Utah State University ( ), on the faculty at Oregon State University as a professor of forest policy and economics ( ) and on the faculty of Utah State University ( ). Much of Dr. Daniels professional interests focus on community linkages to natural resources and in collaborative processes in natural resource management. He has been involved in a number of community-level collaborations, primarily in the Pacific Northwest. With Dr. Gregg Walker of OSU, he is a co-author of Working Through Environmental Conflict: The Collaborative Learning Approach. Except for a few years living in North Carolina while Steve earned his graduate degrees at Duke University, he has lived in the northern Rocky Mountains and the Pacific Northwest. David Remson David Remson has been teaching and learning about the multigenerational workplace for over 10 years. He has been an invited speaker in numerous public, private and non-profit sector organizations across the country. David focuses on understanding and leveraging the assets each generation brings to the workplace. Through humor, history and research, his programs offer the opportunity to develop strategies to engage people across the generational spectrum. He holds a Master s degree in Management and Organizational Leadership from Regis University and brings a simple philosophy to all of his work; It s not about them, it s about you.

Dan McDonald, Ph.D. Dan McDonald, Ph.D. is the County Extension Director for Pima County and an associate area agent with Arizona Cooperative Extension at the University of Arizona. His current research and community outreach involves the development, implementation, and evaluation of community programming and curricula, including nutrition and physical activity programs, youth development programming, and capacity building workshops. He has published on developing school wellness policies, evaluating community programs, and fatherhood. He serves on the City of Tucson Commission on Food Security, Heritage and Economy, and the Arizona Area Health Education Centers advisory board. Judy Barth, Ph.D. Judy Barth, Ph.D., is currently Director of Operations/Human Resources for Colorado State University Extension. Previously she served as Human Resources/Personnel Coordinator, Assistant to the Director, and Staff Development Coordinator. She spent 14 years as a county Extension Agent responsible for 4-H Youth Development before moving into human resource management. Judy received her Ph.D. from Colorado State University in Human Resource Studies; has an MBA in Accounting and Finance from the University of Arizona; and a B.S. in Education from Cornell University.

6 5 The Relationship between WELD and WEDA: The Western Extension Directors Association (WEDA) is open to the 1862 Extension Directors and 1994 Representatives of the Land-Grant Cooperative Extension organizations in the following states and territories: Alaska, American Samoa, Arizona, California, Colorado, Guam, Hawaii, Idaho, Micronesia, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Northern Mariana Islands, Oregon, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming. WEDA works on mutually beneficial programs and organizational issues in partnership with USDA-NIFA (National Institute for Food and Agriculture) and the APLU (Association of Public and Land-Grant Universities), as well as other regional and national organizations. The WEDA mission is to advance the Land Grant College/University Extension programs in member states and territories in the Western Region to assist in meeting the challenges and opportunities of the 21st century by: Facilitating stakeholder input on critical issues Creating a voice on national issues for the West, including insular areas Fostering the next generation of Extension programs Mentoring and developing Extension leadership and professionals Developing collaborative structures for efficiency and effectiveness. In 1999, the Western Extension Directors Association created the Western Extension Leadership Development (WELD) committee, representing the 13 western states and territories, to investigate and develop a regional leadership training program for Extension faculty. WELD Program Objectives: Developing awareness and appreciation of leadership styles and applying appropriate techniques in working with diverse individuals. Fostering skills that enable individuals to develop and articulate organizational/group direction. Developing skills that enable Extension Professionals to work together and with others effectively. Developing skills to enable an organization/group to effectively implement planned change.
