1 March 23, Spring Testing Schedule All Clay students enrolled in the classes listed below will be taking the Ohio State Tests this spring (dates indicated). Our students will be completing all tests online for the spring testing schedule. Language Arts 9 & 10 (regular, honors, & retakes) = April 9 & 10 Biology (regular & honors) = April 23 & 24 American History (regular, honors, & retakes) = April 30 Government (regular, honors, AP, & retakes) = May 1 Algebra I and Geometry (regular, honors, & retakes) = May 7 & 8 TEST RETAKES = Any sophomore, junior or senior who will retake. Algebra I and Geometry (retakes only) = April 23 & 24 Biology (retakes only) = May 7 & 8 On all the dates listed above, Clay High School will operate on a 2-hour delay schedule. Only those students scheduled to take the test (either the initial test or the retake) on the assigned day will be required to start school at 7:50 a.m. All other students not taking the test will begin school at 9:50 a.m. Dismissal on all testing days will still remain at 2:35 p.m. Morning bus transportation will be provided for both the 7:50 and 9:50 start times. Oregon City Schools Emergency Contact Information The Oregon City Schools have established two new, very important points of contact for our school community and for the public community to contact our schools. The new phone number and address will be monitored daily. Neither the phone number nor address are intended to replace 911 or to replace calling the police in an emergency or threatening situation, but rather, a common and consistent way to report school district safety-related concerns. To report an emergency concern/tip please call: To report an emergency concern/tip please emergency@oregoncs.org CHS Prom This year, prom will be held at the Toledo Zoo on April 21, from 7:00 pm 11:00 pm. The theme is a Simple Romantic Evening and the colors are brown, ivory, and blush. Appetizers will be provided and the carousel will be open for a portion of the evening. Parking for the event will be free of charge at the Anthony Wayne Trail Parking Lot & Entrance. The price of a ticket is $30 for a single and $60 for a

2 couple. The first 450 to purchase tickets will get a free t-shirt. Tickets will be on sale until April 13. NO tickets will be sold after April 13. In order to purchase a ticket, parents and students need to sign the Prom Dress Code & Guideline Form. Visitor Forms for guests from other schools must also be signed and submitted before a ticket may be purchased. These forms are located in the paper trays outside of Mrs. Henneman-Dallape s office. Please note that random breathalyzer tests will be conducted in the same manner that was implemented at the Homecoming Dance. CHS Athletic Booster Reverse Raffle The 17 th Annual Reverse Raffle will be held on Saturday, April 14. The theme this year is Hawaiian Luau. This fundraiser will take place at the Millbury Fire Hall with dinner being served at 6:30 p.m. Each ticket is $100 and includes two dinners, beverages, prizes, auctions and more! For tickets, please call Dave at , Jaci Bleau at jbleau@oregoncs.org, or some head coaches many still have tickets available. Only 200 tickets were printed, so get yours soon. This is an adult gathering. Clay FFA Members Earn Awards This winter FFA members Christa George and Max Venia submitted Proficiency Award applications for their individual, supervised, agricultural experience projects. Christa, a sophomore in the Agricultural and Environmental Technologies program, applied in the area of Agriscience Research: Plant Systems. Christa's project tested different fertilizer effectiveness on the growth of giant pumpkins. Christa reported on her findings, recorded her work in a journal, and documented her financial obligations involved with the project. Christa received a gold rating, and will travel to Columbus this May to compete as one of four state finalists. Max Venia, a senior, applied in the area of Veterinary Science-Placement for his work at the Maumee Bay Vet Clinic. Max reported on his journal of recorded work, earnings, and learning outcomes. Max received a first-place rating at the district level and a bronze state rating. Summer Volunteer Opportunity North Point Educational Service Center is hosting a summer sports camp for students with disabilities. The camp will be held at Sports Force Park in Sandusky. North Point is in need of volunteers to make this program a success. Any high school students, college students, or adults may volunteer for this great program. If you have any questions about Sports Force Camp or the positions available for volunteers, please contact Karen Ruf at kruf@npesc.org. Attached is an informational sheet as well as a volunteer application. Summer Job Opportunity The Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge is accepting applications for summer workers. The Wildlife Refuge is looking to find high school students who are interested in wildlife conservation and natural resources, and who are interested in a summer job in the great outdoors. Attached is a flyer and an application with information about the Youth Conservation Corps program. All applications must be received or postmarked by April 16, Oregon City Schools Public Survey In an effort to gather input for continuous improvement and feedback, we are requesting each of you take a few minutes and complete the first annual OCS PUBLIC OPINION SURVEY This survey will be available through March 30, Please fill out this survey only one time per person. Simply click to complete the survey, which is designed to

FFA Students Attended the District Agriscience Fair On March 1, seventeen students in the Agricultural and Environmental Technologies program traveled to Anthony Wayne High School to participate in the district Agriscience Fair contest. Student projects ranged in topics from food science to animals, and from plants to natural resources. Each project consisted of some sort of experiment, display and written report, and oral judging. Members who participated in this event included Emma Hansen and Audrey Dalton (Maze Runner; Rat Recollection Over Time), Alanna Kyer and Hannah Wolfe (Of Mice, Music and Mazes), Megan Mawhorter (Temperature Effects on Water Uptake in Fresh Cut Flowers), Brianna Myrice and Andrew Mawhorter (Can Freshwater Fish be Acclimated to a Saltwater Environment?), Christa George (It s the Great Pumpkin), Brian Spencer (A Tasty Meal; Eliminating Solid Waste with Mealworms), Lizzie Spitler (Buffering Bad Water; The Effectivity of Riparian Buffers), Brady Horman and Lucas Collins (How Small Animals React to An Ultra Sonic Pest Repeller), Max Venia (Oil Spill Cleanup), Elizabeth Vincent (Cellular Respiration), and Rylee Chancey and Paige McNutt (How Active are Your Angels?). Congratulations to Christa George for finishing first in the district, to Max Venia for finishing third in the district, and to the team of Brianna Myrice and Andrew Mawhorter for finishing fourth! All students with Agriscience Fair projects will be applying to the state contest and will be traveling to the state competition in May. Ohio Department Of Transportation (ODOT) Summer Employment Summer jobs are available for graduating seniors at the Ohio Department of Transportation District 2. The job title is Transportation Seasonal Help. Below are the locations of ODOT District 2 Garages and Departments with openings. Students will work outdoors doing highway maintenance jobs, such as flagging, picking up litter, and assisting the road crews. They will work Monday through Friday, from 7:00AM to 3:30PM. Interested applicants may apply on-line at The University of Dayton Summer Engineering Camps The University of Dayton is hosting three separate engineering camps this summer. Dayton will host the Minority Engineering and Technology Camp for Young Men from June 17-23, the Women in

4 Engineering Camp from June 24 29, and the Honors Engineering Camp on July For additional information, registration, and cost of each camp, please open the attached document. Oregon Recreation Summer Soccer Camp The Oregon Recreation Department, in conjunction with Challenger Sports, will be hosting a summer soccer camp from June 4 8, at the Oregon Soccer Fields. The camp is being held for players age 3 18 years old. Please open the attachment for the different skill camps that are available and the different times the specific camps will be held. Clay FFA Member to Receive State Degree Max Venia, a senior in the Agricultural and Environmental Technologies program, will receive the Ohio FFA State Degree this May at the State FFA Convention in Columbus. In order to receive his degree, Max recorded and reported his work in his supervised agricultural experience. Max s agricultural experience included volunteering as a Toledo Zoo Teen, working at the Maumee Bay Vet Hospital, participating in at least two state career development events, demonstrating parliamentary procedure basics, gaving an agriculturally related speech, serving as a chapter officer, completing 25 hours of community service, having a GPA over 2.0, and participating in a number of FFA events. Only a relatively small number of FFA members throughout the state of Ohio actually receive this honor. Max completed his application for the degree this winter, and was evaluated through a rigorous process at the sub-district, district, and state level to be accepted. Max will walk the stage at State FFA Convention this May held at the Ohio Expo Center. Congratulations, Max! CHS is proud of you! Model UN Competition The CHS Model UN team traveled to Lansing on March 8, 9 & 10, to participate in the Mid-American Model United Nations (MAMUN) Competition. Senior, Alayna Wiedman was 1 of 15 delegates chosen for the Secretary General s Special Crisis Simulation. This simulation is reserved for the top 15 from over 500 students, and is awarded to students for exemplary position paper writing, speech, debate, and diplomacy skills. Alayna later went on to win 2 nd place honors overall for her work on the Legal Committee. Congratulations, Alayna, and good luck next year at Eastern Michigan majoring in law. Furthermore, Emily Kellison, a freshman, set a new record as the first freshman in CHSMUN history to win 2 nd place honors at MAMUN, for work on the Social Humanitarian committee. Congratulation, Emily! It looks like a bright future lies ahead for Emily in Model UN. Great job to the entire Model UN team for representing CHS in an outstanding manner. Keep up the hard work! FFA Officer Book Award Megan Mawhorter, junior FFA member and chapter reporter, was tasked with the job of creating a Chapter Reporter s Book. Megan wrote articles about chapter events, took pictures, and created a book for the chapter. Also, Megan collected all the social media posts and newsletter articles to submit for competition. The book was evaluated at the district level and received a gold rating. Megan will receive her award this May at State FFA Convention, held in Columbus at the Ohio Expo Center. Wheels Only 5K Students and community members are invited to participate in Oregon City Schools first Wheels Only 5K. All proceeds will support creating universal playgrounds at the three OCS elementary buildings. Participants must be on wheels. Acceptable wheels for the race include wheelchair, walker, skateboard,

Maumee Bay State Park Job Fair Maumee Bay State Park will be holding a job fair on Saturday, March 24, from 10:00 a.m. 1:00 p.m., for seasonal work. Most positions will work from May through September. In order to be hired, all applicants must be 16 by the beginning of employment. Applications may be picked up at the Lodge or you may print one online at Open the attached flyer for additional information. Oregon-Northwood Rotary 5K The Oregon-Northwood Rotary will be sponsoring a 5K run/walk on Saturday, April 7. The run starts at Starr Elementary with the finish line at Fassett Junior High. All proceeds go to support all Fassett 7 th grade students' mission at the Challenger Learning Center and the Early Reading Initiatives at Starr, Coy, and Jerusalem. Please open the attachment for all registration information. Scholarship Opportunity The Lucas County Farm Bureau offers numerous scholarships to qualifying students. Four $1000 active member scholarships are available. These four scholarships were established in honor of these gentlemen who shared their enthusiastic and dedicated leadership in the Farm Bureau. The deadline to apply for these scholarships in April 2, The attached document lists the scholarship criteria and the website to apply for the scholarship. Memorial Fishing Tournament The 4 th annual James R. McAllister Memorial Fishing Tournament will be held on Saturday, April 14, The proceeds will benefit scholarships for Clay High School seniors. Please open the attached document for more information. TRADITION FAMILY COMMUNITY The annual Volunteer Focus Easter Egg Hunt will be held on Saturday, March 24, for children in the 4 th grade and younger. Check-in will be held at noon at door #38. The Easter Egg Hunt will begin at 12:30. Please have all children report to the CHS cafeteria (door #38) before going out to the stadium.
