She had 15 points, seven rebounds, five assists and three steals at Kent State before chipping in 23 points against Charleston. Breanna Stewart, Connecticut, Fr., F Stewart averaged 19.0 ppg, 6.7 rpg and blocked seven shots in a 3-0 week for Connecticut. The Huskies won the Paradise Jam with a victory over No. 12/14 Purdue, led by Stewart s 17 points. Stewart was named the tournament MVP. Sugar Rodgers, Georgetown, Sr., G Rodgers averaged 19.7 ppg and 7.3 rpg, dishing out nine assists and grabbing seven steals in a 2-1 week for the Hoyas. Andrea Smith, USF, Sr., G Smith averaged 21.5 ppg and 6.0 rpg in a 2-0 week for USF. She shot 48.5 percent from the field and 57 percent from 3-point range. Kayla Alexander, Syracuse, Sr., C Alexander helped the Orange in a 3-0 week against opponents all receiving votes in the AP Poll. She averaged 17.3 ppg, 6.0 rpg, blocked 16 shots and shot 56 percent. B I G E A S T P l a y e r o f t h e W e e k Shenneika Smith, St. John s Sr., G (Brooklyn, N.Y.) Smith averaged 21.0 ppg and 9.5 rpg in a 2-0 week for St. John s. In two games, she totaled seven assists, eight blocks and eight steals. She had 21 points, eight rebounds, four steals, three blocks and five assists in a win against Iona on Nov. 21. At Hartford on Nov. 25, she had 21 points, shooting 56 percent from the field. Smith also added 11 rebounds, four steals and a career-high five blocks in the win. Smith leads the league in rebounding (11.5 rpg) and is second in scoring (20.8 ppg). B I G E A S T F r e s h m a n o f t h e W e e k Jewell Loyd, Notre Dame Fr., G (Lincolnwood, Ill.) Loyd averaged a team-high 19.0 ppg for Notre Dame. She averaged 6.5 rpg, 5.0 apg, and 2.0 spg, while shooting 73 percent in a 2-0 week that saw Notre Dame win at No. 19/22 UCLA. She also shot 60 percent from 3-point range. Her performance against the Bruins was highlighted by three baskets in a 47-second span that punctuated a 15-2 ND run, giving the Irish the lead for good against a top-25 opponent. Against UCLA, she led the Irish with 19 points, connecting on 8-of-12, pulling down seven rebounds and grabbing five assists. Those offerings will now include new on-demand programming in the form of webisodes and vignettes produced in XOS Digital s production facility. BIGEAST.tv also will feature highlights of every nationally televised BIG EAST contest posted following the conclusion of every game and other on-demand interviews and features. In addition, fans can access BIGEAST.tv for live streaming of certain conference championships, which will be offered free to consumers. The BIG EAST Web site will continue to be the exclusive home for women s basketball Championship Central, which is a one-stop shop for conference tournament live stats, blogs, results, box scores, recaps, photo galleries, video highlights and more. Weekly Awards The BIG EAST names a Player and Freshman of the Week, as well as five Honor Roll selections, each Monday during the regular season. Winners are chosen from nominations provided by the BIG EAST sports information directors. The information will be released from the BIG EAST office and will be listed in the conference release and on the league web site. Annual Awards The All-BIG EAST First, Second, Honorable Mention and Freshman Teams, Player of the Year, Freshman of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year and Coach of the Year are chosen from a vote of the league s 16 head coaches at the conclusion of the regular season. A Most Improved Player, a Sixth-Man Award, a Women s Basketball Scholar-Athlete and a Sportsmanship Award winner are also selected. Coaches are not allowed to vote for themselves or their own players. The awards will be announced prior to the BIG EAST Championship start on March 2 through an release from the Conference office. 3 Cincinnati Bearcats 3-1 Overall (2-0 Home; 1-1 Away; 0-0 Neutral) Next game: The Bearcats continue a five-game homestand on Nov. 28 at 7 p.m. ET against Morehead State at Fifth Third Arena. Last game: Cincinnati used a late run to hold off the College of Charleston for a win on Nov. 25 at Fifth Third Arena. Cincinnati led by as many as 13 and was up at the half, but Charleston pulled within one on the strength of a run over the first 9:30 of the second half. The Bearcats closed the door with an run over the final nine minutes to earn the nine-point win, giving UC three wins in its first four games. Senior Lesha Dunn added eight of her career best 17 points during the final seven minutes of play. She also set career bests with nine rebounds and two blocks. Redshirt-junior Dayeesha Hollins poured in a season and game high 23 points, her eighth career 20-point game. In each of UC s three wins, the Bearcats have held its opponent to under 36 percent from the field. College of Charleston was 24-of-46 (.353) from the field on the day. Connecticut Huskies 5-0 Overall (1-0 Home; 1-0 Away; 3-0 Neutral) Next game: The Huskies will return home to host Colgate on Nov. 28 at 7 p.m. ET on Nov. 28. Last game: Freshman Breanna Stewart scored 17 points to lead No. 2/2 Connecticut to a rout of No. 14/12 Purdue on Nov. 24 and the championship of the Paradise Jam tournament. The win improves Connecticut s record against ranked teams to Stewart, the tournament MVP, matched her season average Saturday after a 20-point, 10-rebound performance in the Huskies win over Marist on Nov. 23. The Huskies had four players in double figures. sophomore Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis added 15 points for UConn, before leaving with just over 2 minutes left after taking what appeared to be an inadvertent elbow to the head. Connecticut beat Wake Forest by 61 points and Marist by 42 in the tournament The Boilermakers were previously undefeated, but the Huskies jumped out to an 11-0 lead and never trailed. DePaul Blue Demons 5-2 Overall (3-1 Home; 0-0 Away; 2-1 Neutral) Next game: DePaul returns to the court at 5 p.m. ET on Dec. 2 when it welcomes Northwestern for a cross-town clash. Last game: The Blue Demons lost to South Carolina in the championship game of the Paradise Jam Reef Division on Nov. 24 at the University of Virgin Island Fitness Center. Doug Bruno will coach his 800th career game against Northwestern. Redshirt-freshman Megan Rogowski scored 13 points, eight points and three steals. Rogowski was in the starting lineup to replace senior Anna Martin, who did not start due to a knee injury. Sophomore Brittany Hrynko was named to the All-Tournament Team as the Blue Demons took second place at the Paradise Jam. DePaul struggled from the field, shooting 29.7 percent and hit just four 3-pointers. DePaul s four-game winning streak came to a close. The 46 points are the fewest scored since it recorded 44 against Connecticut on Jan. 21, Georgetown Hoyas 4-2 Overall (2-0 Home; 1-2 Away; 1-0 Neutral) Next game: The Hoyas will be back in action on Nov. 28 as the squad hosts the La Salle University Explorers at 8 p.m. ET at McDonough Arena. Last game: Georgetown fell to No. 11/11 California in the championship game of the Cal Classic presented by Doubletree on Saturday at Haas Pavilion in Berkeley, Calif. Senior Sugar Rodgers led the way for Georgetown with 20 points and six rebounds, while junior Andrea White added 15 points and three rebounds as well as three steals. Junior Samisha Powell had seven assists in the contest. Georgetown shot 42.9 percent from the field, but was outrebounded, Cal shot 50 percent from the field and had 23 turnovers in the game. Rodgers and White were both named to the All- Tournament team. Rodgers had 42 points and 14 boards over two contests, while White contributed 25 points and six rebounds. Louisville Cardinals 7-0 Overall (2-0 Home; 2-0 Away; 3-0 Neutral) Next game: The Cardinals will host Eastern Kentucky on Nov. 28 at 7:30 p.m. ET. Last game: No. 7/6 Louisville scored 22 of the first 28 points in a victory at UT Martin on Nov. 26. Sophomore Bria Smith and junior Shoni Schimmel each scored 16 points for Louisville. Schimmel made four 3-pointers, grabbed three steals and dished out five assists (with just one turnover). Smith also had five assists. Freshman Megan Deines had 15 points and sophomore Sara Hammond scored 14. Hammond shot 5-for-7 from the floor, connecting on all four free throws and adding six rebounds and two blocks. Louisville shot 60 percent before the break and 55 percent overall. The Cardinals outrebounded UTM Marquette Golden Eagles 2-2 Overall (1-0 Home; 0-2 Away; 1-0 Neutral) Next game: The Golden Eagles will conclude their four-game road trip on Nov. 28 as they travel to South Dakota State for a 7 p.m. ET game. Last game: Marquette closed out the Texas A&M Thanksgiving Classic with an loss to RV/24 Texas A&M on Nov. 25 at Reed Arena. Junior Katherine Plouffe recorded her first doubledouble of the season in the Golden Eagles victory over Marshall with 16 points and 10 rebounds. She tallied a season-high and game-high 18 points at RV/24 Texas A&M Sophomore Arlesia Morse tallied 13 points against the Aggies, shooting 3-for-6 from the 3-point line, all of which came in the second half. Morse and Plouffe were named to the alltournament squad following the conclusion of the game. 4 Notre Dame Fighting Irish 4-0 Overall (2-0 Home; 1-0 Away; 1-0 Neutral) Next game: The Fighting Irish will play at Central Michigan at 7 p.m. ET on Nov. 29. Last game: No. 5/5 Notre Dame is coming off a win at No. 19/22 UCLA on Nov. 23. Notre Dame is off to a 4-0 start for the first time since the season two of those four victories have come against ranked opponents, with the Fighting Irish also defeating No. 19/21 Ohio State on Nov. 9 at the Carrier Classic aboard the USS Yorktown in Mount Pleasant, S.C. Notre Dame s win at No. 19/22 UCLA was the first true road victory at a top-25 opponent since Feb. 27, 2012, when the Fighting Irish defeated No. 4 Connecticut, at the XL Center in Hartford, Conn. With 12 points at No. 19/22 UCLA, senior All- America guard Skylar Diggins moved into fifth place on Notre Dame s career scoring list with 1,771 points, passing Alicia Ratay (1,763 from ). Pittsburgh Panthers 5-1 Overall (5-1 Home; 0-0 Away; 0-0 Neutral) Next game: The Panthers will play Dec. 1 at Lafayette for a 2 p.m. ET tilt. Last game: Pittsburgh picked up its fifth-straight win with an victory over visiting Longwood on Nov. 26. Sophomore Brianna Kiesel had a careerhigh 27 points. It marked her first 20-plus point performance this season and the eighth of her career. Kiesel also notched a season-high in field goals made (9). Junior Asia Logan registered her second career double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds, while sophomore Chyna Golden had her first (12 points, 10 rebounds). The 86 points were the most this season for the Panthers and the most since scoring 94 points at Central Michigan on Dec. 31, 2011 (94-78 win). Pitt had 20 fast-break points, the most by a Panthers team since Dec. 5, 2009 (23 fast break points vs. Western Michigan in an win). The Panthers stretched their winning streak to five games, the longest since the season (eight games). Providence Friars 1-4 Overall (1-2 Home; 0-2 Away; 0-0 Neutral) Next game: The Friars return to action on Nov. 28 against Iona. The game will be played at Noon and will serve as the backdrop for the annual Project Providence initiative. Cox Sports also will be televising the game via tape delay. Last game: Providence lost at home to Akron on Nov. 24, Five Friars finished the game in double figures, including senior guard Symone Roberts who led the way with 22 points, six assists and six steals. The Friars went on a 6-0 run in the first minute of the game before Akron could tally its first points. The Friars led by as many as 14 points (31-17) with 9:19 left in the first half. The Zips closed the half with a 20-6 scoring advantage to tie the game at halftime. Joining Roberts in double figures for the Friars was senior forward Brianna Edwards, sophomore Tori Rule, Harris and freshman forward Evi Iiskola. Edwards notched her second double-double of the season with 11 points and 16 rebounds (13 offensive). Rule finished with 15 points, followed by Harris 10 and Iiskola s 14. Rutgers Scarlet Knights 3-1 Overall (2-0 Home; 1-1 Away; 0-0 Neutral) Next game: The Scarlet Knights return to action on Nov. 29 at Princeton at 7:00 p.m. ET. Last game: Rutgers overcame a 15-point firsthalf deficit to walk away with a victory over Davidson on Nov. 25 at the RAC. The game against Davidson was senior Monique Oliver s 99th career game and was also her 64th career start. She returned to line-up after missing the Temple contest with a strained Achilles. Prior to her sitting out against the Owls, Oliver had made 76 consecutive appearances on the court for the Knights, including 21 consecutive starts. Oliver returned to the floor for a team-high 15 points and nine rebounds, narrowly missing out on her second double-double of the year and 10th of her career. The first half saw the fewest made field goals (5) since last year s match-up with Connecticut in the BIG EAST Championship, when Rutgers put up five in the second half of play. Rutgers finished the UConn game with 11 field goals. Although the Scarlet Knights shot just 5-of-29 from the field in the first half, Rutgers went 14-of-28 over the final 20 minutes. Senior Erica Wheeler s three 3-pointers brought her career total to 112, putting her at a tie for eighth on the made 3-pointers list. CINCINNATI CONNECTICUT GEORGETOWN DEPAUL LOUISVILLE MARQUETTE NOTRE DAME PITTSBURGH St. John s Red Storm 4-1 Overall (2-0 Home; 1-0 Away; 1-1 Neutral) Next game: No. 17/15 St. John s will remain on the road, playing its second-straight opponent from the America East in Boston University. The Red Storm and Terriers will tip off at 1 p.m. ET on Dec. 1. Last game: The Red Storm won at Hartford on Nov. 25. St. John s got its first true road victory against Hartford, and ending Hartford s five-game winning streak. Senior Shenneika Smith led St. John s in nearly all categories, as she scored a game-best 21 points off 9-of-16 shooting to go along with 11 rebounds, two assists, a career-high five blocks and four steals. Senior Nadirah McKenith had 13 points, including four-straight free throws with under a minute to play, icing the game. McKenith has 976 career points, 24 points shy of reaching the 1,000-point milestone, becoming the 19th St. John s women s basketball player on the list. Juniors Mary Nwachukwu and Keylantra Langley each had eight points in the win. Langley (Bridgeport, Conn.) was playing in front of her home state crowd. Seton Hall Pirates 2-4 Overall (2-0 Home; 0-2 Away; 0-2 Neutral) Next game: Seton Hall begins a two-game home stand on Nov. 28, when it hosts Siena at Walsh Gymnasium in South Orange, N.J. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET. Last game: Seton Hall had four players score in double figures but the Pirates fell to South Dakota at the Pepperdine Thanksgiving Tournament on Nov. 24 in Malibu, Calif. Redshirt sophomore point guard Ka-Deidre Simmons paced Seton Hall with a season-high 14 points, the ninth double-figure scoring game of her career and her second of the season. Sophomore guard Alexis Brown recorded a career-high 13 points on 6-of-8 shooting. Senior Brittany Morris scored 12 points and was a perfect 8-for-8 at the free throw line, also dishing out a team-high five assists. Senior forward Alexandra Maseko notched her first-career double-double, finishing with 11 points and a career-high 10 rebounds. Simmons was named to the Pepperdine Thanksgiving Classic All-Tournament team. Simmons averaged 13 points, three rebounds and 2.5 assists per game in the tournament. PROVIDENCE RUTGERS ST. 5 USF Bulls 4-0 Overall (3-0 Home; 1-0 Away; 0-0 Neutral) Next game: The Bulls go back on the road this week, facing UNC Asheville Nov. 28 at 7 p.m. ET before returning home to take on North Florida on Dec. 1. Last game: The Bulls recovered from a slow start on Nov. 23, using a strong last 24 minutes to run past North Dakota at the Sun Dome. USF outscored UND in the second half, shooting 49 percent from the floor to win by its largest margin of the season. Junior guard Inga Orekhova scored a careerhigh 23 points, knocking down five of the Bulls 11 three-pointers as the Bulls sank 12 more field goals than North Dakota. Orekhova added seven rebounds, two assists and two steals. Twelve different players scored for the Bulls, including three in double digits, and 11 grabbed at least one rebound, helping the Bulls to a rebounding advantage in the game, including 20 offensive boards. Senior Andrea Smith scored 19 points off the bench for the Bulls and senior Andrell Smith added 17 points, seven assists and five rebounds. Villanova Wildcats 4-1 Overall (0-0 Home; 1-1 Away; 3-0 Neutral) Next game: After playing the first five games away, the Wildcats open the home portion of its schedule on Nov. 29 against Lehigh at 7 p.m. ET. Last game: Villanova defeated Montana on Nov. 25 to win the UNLV Lady Rebel Round-Up tournament. Senior Rachel Roberts was named to the All- Tournament Team at the UNLV Lady Rebel Round- Up. She had 24 points in the tourney and shot 10- of-20 from the field and 4-of-9 from 3-point range. In the championship game against Montana, sophomore Lauren Burford scored a career-high 19 points and made a career-best six 3-point field goals. While the BIG EAST Championship includes all 15 teams, the regular season remains a crucial part of the conference schedule. The Panthers stretched their winning streak to five games, the longest since the season (eight games). BIG EAST News & Four On Senior CLASS Award List A quartet of BIG EAST stars who excel both on and off the court were selected as candidates for the Senior CLASS Award in collegiate basketball. Stewart, the tournament MVP, matched her season average Saturday after a 20-point, 10-rebound performance in the Huskies win over Marist on Nov. 23. The win improves Connecticut s record against ranked teams to The Blue Demons lost to South Carolina in the championship game of the Paradise Jam Reef Division on Nov. 24 in the Virgin Islands. Tough D In each of UC s three wins, the Bearcats have held their opponent to under 36 percent from the field. Louisville put together back-to-back strong defensive efforts, shutting down both Gonzaga and Oregon State in the final two games of the Hardwood of Hope tournament after giving up 73 points in the opener to Central Florida. Louisville beat Gonzaga on Nov. 21 and topped Oregon State on Nov. 22. Still Undefeated The BIG EAST still has five teams undefeated heading into the third week of play. Seven BIG EAST WBB Stars Named to Wade Watch List Seven BIG EAST women s basketball players have been named to the Wade Watch list for the State Farm Wade Trophy, as announced by the Women s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA). The prestigious award is presented annually to the NCAA Division I Player of the Year by the National Association of Girls and Women in Sport (NAGWS) and the WBCA. The BIG EAST placed seven players on the preseason list, followed by the Big Ten and Big 12 with five each, the ACC with three, the SEC with two, and the CAA, Ohio Valley and Pac-12 conferences with one each. The BIG EAST has captured three of the last four Wade Trophies, with UConn s Maya Moore winning in 2009, 2010 and Historically, the conference has won eight Wade Trophies with Villanova s Shelly Pennefather winning in 1987, and Connecticut winning in 1995 with Rebecca Lobo, 1996 with Jennifer Rizzotti, 2002 with Sue Bird, 2003 with Diana Taurasi, and with Moore.
