2 Cleveland Cavaliers Community Relations The Cavaliers are committed to positively impacting the lives of children and families in Northeast Ohio through a comprehensive program of education, recreation and outreach initiatives. Through our community programs and with financial support from Cavaliers Youth Fund, a fund of the McCormick Tribune Foundation, the Cavaliers are setting the standard for giving in the community. Education Programs READ TO ACHIEVE Presented by Time Warner Cable In association with Office Depot Read to Achieve is a year-round campaign designed to help young people develop a life-long love for reading and encourage adults to read regularly with children. The program reaches thousands of elementary, middle and high school students in Northeast Ohio through incentive-based reading challenges, reading time-outs, book drives and donations, writing contests and the construction of Reading & Learning Centers. READING & LEARNING CENTERS In association with Sherwin-Williams The development of Reading & Learning Centers throughout Northeast Ohio allows qualified non-profit organizations with the opportunity to improve the condition of its current facility as well as to improve the quality of its literacy and educational programming. Since 2004, the Cavaliers have created seven Reading & Learning Centers at communitybased organizations: St. Martin de Porres Family Center (Cleveland), Project: LEARN of Summit County (Akron), the Drew Gooden Reading & Learning Center at East End Neighborhood House (Cleveland), E. Prep Academy (Cleveland), the Eric Snow Reading & Learning Center at the Ed Peel Coleman Recreation Center (Canton), the Boys & Girls Club-West Side Club (Cleveland) and Douglas MacArthur Girls Leadership Academy (Cleveland). 284

FIT AS A PRO Presented by Medical Mutual Fit As A Pro is designed to encourage physical fitness and well-balanced nutrition among elementary school students in Northeast Ohio. The poster includes nutritional information such as the food guide pyramid and sample diets of Cavaliers players. NEWSPAPER IN EDUCATION In partnership with The Plain Dealer The Cavaliers and The Plain Dealer provide teachers in Northeast Ohio with a unique approach to teaching math. While learning about the Cavaliers, students review and reinforce basic math skills by analyzing numbers connected with the game of basketball. Over 400 elementary and middle school teachers are provided with a curriculum guide and delivery of The Plain Dealer at no charge for use in the classroom. CAVALIERS/FIRSTMERIT SCHOLARHIP PROGRAM Presented by FirstMerit Bank For the 17th year, the Cavaliers and FirstMerit Bank will award 10 high school seniors with $1,000 college scholarships. Graduating high school seniors must submit a 500-word essay, perform a high level of service in their communities and provide a high school transcript, ACT and SAT scores and one letter of recommendation from a high school faculty member. 4 286 Athletic Programs JR. NBA/WNBA The Jr. NBA/WNBA is a youth basketball development program which supports 1,000 recreational basketball leagues in North America and abroad. The Cavaliers and NBA provide programs and opportunities for Northeast Ohio youth basketball participants, ages 5-14, through instructional and recognition programs, player and coach appearances and tournaments. YOUTH HOOPS SUMMER CAMP PROGRAM Presented by Dick s Sporting Goods and Gatorade The Cavaliers, in partnership with the National Basketball Academy, touched the lives of more than 1,200 young athletes across Northeast Ohio and Western Pennsylvania at 13 different camps this summer. In addition to honing their basketball skills, participants also received Cavaliers gear and a ticket to see the Cavaliers in action this season! Cavaliers General Manger Danny Ferry, Assistant GM Lance Blanks, Head Coach Mike Brown and Cavaliers players Larry Hughes and Donyell Marshall all took time to speak with the kids about their positions, the direction of the team and to answer questions. For information on the 2008 Youth Hoops Summer Camp Program, please visit WHEELCHAIR CAVALIERS Presented by The Cleveland Clinic Each season the Wheelchair Cavaliers entertain fans across the country with their basketball skill and athleticism. The team competes at the Division III level both locally and regionally. In addition, the team visits hospitals, schools and youth centers in the Northeast Ohio region to promote wheelchair basketball and performs during halftime of two Cavaliers home games. Outreach Initiatives SEASON OF GIVING From Thanksgiving through the New Year, the NBA and its teams celebrate the Season of Giving, a series of charitable visits and events designed to help feed the hungry, lift the spirits of ailing children and spread the joy of the holiday season to the underserved. Cavaliers players host Thanksgiving meal giveaways, toy drives and hospital visits throughout the holidays. Players have also taken children shopping to buy gifts for their families and have given away free gas at area filling stations. CAVALIERS BETTER HALVES The Better Halves, wives and girlfriends of players, coaches, management and staff, are committed to supporting the Northeast Ohio community through in-game awareness campaigns, fundraising and volunteer efforts. The group focuses primarily on issues that deal with children, education, health, and women. The Better Halves will host their 2nd annual Take the Court event on February 29, 2008 to raise money for The Children s Tumor Foundation. The event features a pregame cocktail party on the Cavaliers Practice Court at Quicken Loans Arena along with one-of-a-kind silent and live auctions. Last year, the group raised over $100,000 to help improve the health and well-being of individuals and families affected by Neurofibromatosis (NF).

6 Moondog Moondog has a unique connection not just to the Cavaliers, but to all of Cleveland. Cleveland is known worldwide as the Rock & Roll city. Famed Cleveland radio disc-jockey, Alan Freed, coined the phrase Rock & Roll and sparked a music explosion in the 1950 s. Freed often referred to himself as the Moondog and his listeners as Moondoggers. The Cavaliers Moondog is dedicated to following in the spirit of the original. Alan Freed was innovative, fun-loving, passionate and controversial. Moondog promises to be the same. Unleash Moondog at your next event unleashthedog@cavs.com myspace.com/moondogmascot Cavalier Girls The Cavalier Girls, one of the hottest dance teams in the NBA, consist of 18 beautiful, enthusiastic and talented dancers.
