The 62 nd Annual Kleberg-Kenedy County Junior Livestock Show is scheduled for January 25 th - February 2 nd, Attached is a complete schedule of events. Livestock exhibitors, continue working with your projects. First and second year exhibitors are strongly urged to attend clinics or seek guidance from experienced exhibitors/families. Members competing or simply participating in a 4-H event (food show, fashion, show, livestock show, etc.) must be certified as eligible to participate by their respective schools. School officials will be provided with a list of students entered in competitive and/or noncompetitive 4-H events. Should a student be ineligible due to their respective School District s Policy (grades, absenteeism, discipline, etc.), school officials will notify the Kleberg-Kenedy Extension Office in writing. The students and their parents will be notified in writing of their ineligibility status by our office. TEXAS 4-H SCHOLARSHIP: Texas 4-H Scholarship Guidelines/Instructions and Applications have been ed to Club Managers/Leaders. Copies are available at the Extension Office. Graduating seniors are encouraged to take advantage of any and all scholarships. Deadline: January 22, CAITLYNN MARIE PRUKOP MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP: Copies of the Caitlynn Marie Prukop Scholarship are available at the Extension Office. Applications are due on or before January 24, KLEBERG EXTENSION EDUCATION ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP: Attached are the guidelines and requirements to apply for the Extension Education Association Scholarship. DISTRICT 12 4-H COUNCIL/ADULT LEADER MEETING: District 12 4-H Council and Adult Leaders Association will be hosting a meeting on Saturday, January 12, 2013 in Cotulla at the Cotulla ISD Learning Center (706 Carrizo St.). Any 4-H member and adult leader interested in attending, please let us know ASAP. 4-H agenda items include: county reports, district events and committees. Adult leader agenda items: see attached flyer. Volunteer leaders interested in this great opportunity are asked to register on 4-H Connect. Registration Deadline is January 8 th by noon.
5 4-H COUNTY COUNCIL: County Council will meet on Monday, January 7 th ; 6:30 p.m. at the Extension Office. Delegates please attend. CLOTHING & TEXTILES (FASHION SHOW) COMMITTEE: To help plan the upcoming County Fashion Show, a planning meeting is scheduled for Thursday, January 10 th, 5:30 p.m. at the Extension Office. All clubs (those listed above) responsible for this event are asked to send at least one representative to this committee meeting. Items that will be discussed: theme, decorations, speaking parts, time of event, set up/tear down, etc. 4-H CLUB PHOTOS: Managers-please start taking your 4-H club pictures within the next couple of weeks. Pictures can be submitted to the Kingsville Record, preferably ed to Tina Salinas (tsalinas@king-ranch.com). Photos will appear in the January edition of the Kingsville Record. Label Photo with club name and members, list left to right, front to back row. 4-H PHOTOGRAPHY CONTEST: Information on the 4-H Photography Contest is available at the Extension Office. Start the creative process now and begin taking photos. There will be different categories in this contest. *Remember this contest is different from the photography contest at the livestock show. 6 POULTRY PROJECTS: Delivery and Handout of Market Broilers at Ricardo Ranch & Feed is December 19, 2012 from 1:00-4:30 p.m. RABBIT BREEDING DATE: The start breeding date for Rabbits is October 22 nd. There have been several rule changes within the rabbit division. Please ensure that you read and understand the rules. RULEBOOKS: Rulebooks are available to our 4-H Families. Club Managers should have provided a copy for each family during 4-H Club meetings. Rulebooks can also be retrieved on-line: LIVESTOCK PROJECT WORKSHOP/WEIGH DAY CLINIC: As always livestock project clinics for beef, goat, lamb, and swine exhibitors began in November. These clinics are intended to be informal (one-on-one). Discussion will focus on where exhibitors should be with their project, feed program, parasite control, sanitation, weighing of the project, questions, etc. (Note: Swine exhibitors are not recommended to bring their project). Take advantage of these opportunities to learn more about your respective project. The following dates have been set aside for these clinics: Date: Jan. 6 th 3-5 p.m. JK Northway (pen area) PEE WEE GOAT CLINIC: Pee Wee Goat Clinic is scheduled for Sunday, January 6 th ; 1:30 p.m. at the J.K. Northway outside pen area. Topics: feeding, working with your goat, and showmanship. Please RSVP ( ) to confirm your attendance. CLIPPING AND SHEARING: Clippers are available for families to use on a first come, first serve basis. Please take good care of the clippers when borrowing them. Before returning clippers, please clean them by removing all hair and wool. Practice showmanship, introduce projects to new environments and ask questions you may have. The next workout is scheduled from 3-5 p.m. on January 6th (Goats / Lambs/Beef). 7 4-H CONCESSION STAND (Ticket Booth): Attached is the 2013 Ticket Booth work schedule for the annual 4-H fundraiser. This is the biggest fundraiser the 4-H program has as a whole. The money raised (approximately $3,000) is used to purchase awards for 4-H events, provide scholarships to members attending leadership events, purchase items to conduct community service projects, repair equipment (scales, sharpen blades, clippers, etc.) Club managers- please have at least one or two adults and a few members during your assigned time. HORSE CLUB: Wild Horse Desert Club meeting & clinic will be on Sunday, January 6 th at 3 PM at JK Northway. The meeting will cover the upcoming county horse show. The clinic will be a quick run through of the horse show and an opportunity to work the horses inside JK Northway. All horse show & stock horse futurity exhibitors are highly encouraged to attend. Birds need fresh air. * Proper temperature is critical. Thermometer should be placed at the level of your birds. * Keep constant supply of clean feed and water--day and night. Birds should have easy access to feed and water. Avoid competition between birds. * Never bath your birds. Wipe down with a dry, soft cloth (optional). 1 Electrolytes may be administered for 4-5 days (optional). Never use for more than 10 days. 2 3 Antibiotics/medication should only be administered, if broilers are sick (sneezing/wheezing). Don=t Abuse. Cull: small birds, birds with broken wings, twisted/crooked feet, sick birds. Culled birds should be placed in a separate feeding area.

The club that collects the most pull tabs will receive a SURPRISE PARTY hosted by Council! This ongoing community service will benefit the Ronald McDonald House Charity. 4 H clubs can turn in pull tabs to the Extension Office at anytime throughout the contest and we will keep them until the contest ends.
