Guidelines for Campus Recreation Users USFSP Campus Recreation continues to provide positive recreational experiences with participant safety and wellbeing in mind. Interpretation of USFSP Campus Recreation Policies and Procedures will be the responsibility of USFSP Campus Recreation staff. Assumption of Risk To participate in Campus Recreation programs, facilities and offerings, members must have their USFSP Assumption of Risk document completed. Participants may be asked to update the USFSP Assumption of Risk at any time.
2 All individuals who participate in USFSP Campus Recreation activities will be doing so at their own risk. These risks could include, but not limited to, muscle cramps, nausea, fainting, abnormal blood pressure, chest discomfort, and even death. The University of South Florida Saint Petersburg and its Board of Trustees are not responsible for any injury that may occur to individuals participating in any Campus Recreation activity. Participation in any Campus Recreation activity is on a purely voluntary basis. Individuals are encouraged to have a physical examination and obtain adequate health and accident insurance PRIOR TO PARTICIPATION in all Campus Recreation activities. Membership Information Purpose Campus Recreation at the University of South Florida St. Petersburg exists to provide educational, recreational, and competitive programming, equipment and facilities to USFSP students. In addition, student privileges are extended to all currently enrolled A&S fee-paying USF System students regardless of their home campus. We invite USFSP as well as USF System Faculty, Staff, Alumni, Affiliates and the public to participate in select Campus Recreation programming, equipment and facilities with the purchase of a membership. Identification Card Requirements It is required that University of South Florida system students and all Campus Recreation members prove their membership by presenting a valid USF ID card to secure services at Campus Recreation Facilities. Campus recreation staff is fully authorized to deny entry to the facilities without possession of a valid USF ID card. Possession of a USF ID card does not guarantee valid membership with Campus Recreation. USF ID cards are the property of the University and must be returned on request. Misuse of USF ID cards to gain access to Campus Recreation facilities is considered fraud. Campus Recreation staff will confiscate misused, expired or invalid ID cards and may ask the person(s) to leave the facility. Misuse of ID cards may also result in loss of Campus Recreation membership privileges. Special note regarding USFSP Campus Recreation Membership Cards Persons eligible for Campus Recreation Memberships but not issued a USF ID card will be issued a USFSP Campus Recreation Membership card. USFSP Campus Recreation Membership cards are only valid at USFSP Campus Recreation Facilities. USFSP Campus Recreation Membership cards do not prove status with the University. Student Usage Current A&S fee-paying USF system students are automatically Student Campus Recreation members provided they are taking classes and are in good standing with the University. The Student Campus Recreation Membership provides the student member the opportunity to take advantage of the following privileges: 1. Access to all USFSP recreational sports facilities including: 1. The Fitness Center 1. Cardio and Strength Equipment 2. Group Fitness 3. Competitive Sports Office 4. Fitness Education 2. The Waterfront 1. Coquina Pool

Eligibility to participate in programs and lessons offered by USFSP Campus Recreation 3. Discounted rates for programs and lessons offered by USFSP Campus Recreation Alumni/Recent Graduate/Student Semester Off Upon graduation from the University of South Florida Saint Petersburg, the graduate may purchase a USFSP Alumni Campus Recreation Membership. In order to purchase a USFSP Alumni Campus Recreation Membership, the graduate must present either their diploma or transcripts showing graduation status as well as a photo ID. The USFSP Alumni Campus Recreation Membership provides the recent graduate the opportunity to take advantage of the following privileges: 1. To purchase a Faculty/Staff USFSP Campus Recreation Membership, the employee must present his/her valid USF ID Card at the time of purchase. The Faculty/Staff Campus Recreation Membership provides the Faculty/Staff the opportunity to take advantage of the following privileges: 1. Access to all USFSP recreational sports facilities including:

5 Affiliate Membership Persons employed by officially recognized Affiliate organizations of USFSP, may purchase a USFSP Affiliate Campus Recreation Membership. Affiliate organizations are determined by the University of South Florida Saint Petersburg administration. In order to purchase a USFSP Affiliate Campus Recreation Membership, the affiliate must present an Affiliate ID card or a letter of current employment with the affiliated group. The USFSP Affiliate Campus Recreation Membership provides the individual the opportunity to take advantage of the following privileges: 1. Access to all USFSP recreational sports facilities including: 1. The Fitness Center 1. Cardio and Strength Equipment 2. Group Fitness 3. Fitness Education 2. The Waterfront 1. Coquina Pool 2. Haney Landing Sailing Center 3. Outdoor Recreational Space 1. Recreation Field Complex 2. Outdoor Court Complex 2. Eligibility to participate in select programs and lessons offered by Campus Recreation 3. Discounted rates for select programs and lessons offered by Campus Recreation Guest Use Participants without a current USFSP Campus Recreation Membership are able to purchase a One Time Use Guest Pass to access the USFSP Fitness Center or Coquina Pool. One Time Use Guest Passes are not available at the Waterfront Boathouse. Waterfront Boathouse guests must be accompanied by current USF System students or USFSP Campus Recreation Members. University Visitors Department, institute or other University sponsored conferences may purchase guest passes on an individual basis, by either of the following methods: 1. Departments/University Clients may purchase a blanket membership for their attendees. Campus Recreation will require the department send a list of attendees (of meeting/course they are sponsoring). The list will be available for use by Campus Recreation Staff at each facility. Visitors whose name appears on the list may access the facilities upon showing a photo ID. 2. Departments who wish to pay for their attendees recreation privileges may send a list of attendees to Campus Recreation. One Time Use Guest passes will be issued for each guest for the
6 period specified by the department. The department then must forward payment for the total amount due for the passes at the time passes are picked up. Policies and Regulations Participants are responsible for reading, understanding and abiding by all policies and regulations of Campus Recreation and The University of South Florida Saint Petersburg. Campus Recreation policies are not posted in every area. Campus Recreation Staff are not always available to train/instruct users; do not operate equipment if you are not experienced or trained. If a staff member requests your cooperation regarding policy, honor the request. If you have questions or disagree with a specific policy, please request to complete a complaint notice with Campus Recreation Staff. Failure to comply with staff instructions and proper facility use may result in loss of facility and/or membership privileges without refund. Campus Recreation reserves the right to render judgment and decisions on policies not specifically covered. Campus Recreation reserves the right to contact the USFSP Police Department as necessary. Contact Campus Recreation staff should an accident, injury, or related incident occur. In addition, report immediately any piece of equipment that is not functioning properly so it can be evaluated and serviced promptly. Anyone utilizing Campus Recreation facilities shall have access to the changing, shower and toilet facilities that correspond with their gender expression. Late, lost, or damaged facilities or equipment will result in additional monetary charges. Abusive, profane, or inappropriate language or conversations will not be tolerated and may result in loss of membership. Sexual misconduct will not be tolerated and will result in loss of membership. Infliction or threat of bodily harm, whether done intentionally or with reckless disregard, including threat or action in retaliation for making allegations of misconduct, is prohibited. General Facility Policies Member ID To enter Campus Recreation Facilities and to participate in Campus Recreation Programs, participants must have their valid USF Issued ID or USFSP Recreation ID card. Participants may be denied entry without a valid card. A valid ID card is also required to check out any equipment. Locker Room Policy Anyone utilizing Campus Recreation locker room facilities shall have access to the changing, shower and toilet facilities that correspond with their gender expression. Technology/media use is not permitted in locker rooms. Day Use lockers are available at the Fitness Center and Coquina Hall at no charge on a first come first serve basis. Personal locks may not be left on Day Use lockers overnight. All Day Use locker content must be removed 15 minutes prior to the facility closing. Day Use lockers are impounded at closing each day. A $5.00 impounding fee may be charged to retrieve locker contents. Impounded items will be kept for fourteen (14) days, then all items will be donated to charity. (any toiletry items will be disposed without reimbursement to the patron. Students currently enrolled with an active Campus Recreation Membership are eligible to purchase a locker rental for the current semester only. Non-Students (i.e. Faculty/Staff, Alumni, Affiliates) may purchase an annual or semester locker in addition to their memberships.
7 At the end of the locker rental period, leave the lock on your locker. A $15.00 fee may be charged for missing or lost locks. Personal locks are not permitted on rented lockers. Lockers with personal locks are subject to having the lock removed by Campus Recreation staff. A $5.00 impounding fee may be charged to retrieve locker contents. Locks will be changed immediately following the expiration dates. All lockers not renewed or cleaned out by the end of the locker rental period will be impounded and may be charged a $5.00 impounding fee to retrieve locker contents. Campus Recreation is not responsible for contents left in lockers. As a courtesy, efforts will be made to make you aware of upcoming locker expirations but it is your responsibility to be aware as to when your locker expires. Private/Commercial Use Policy Campus Recreation facilities may not be used for private or commercial purposes unless such activity has been approved by Campus Recreation. Examples of prohibited activity include, but are not limited to: Organized athletic team/individual practices or workouts Personal training Instruction (private, semi private, group, or other) Sales Solicitation Filming/Photography Bicycles and Other Wheeled Vehicles Use of wheeled vehicles (i.e. bicycles, skates, skateboards and scooters) are prohibited in recreation facilities. Bicycles may be parked in the University provided racks at the owner s risk. Bicycles and scooters locked to fences, handrails, trees, or signs risk being removed. Skates, and scooters carried into the facility must be stored in a locker, skateboards must be placed in the provided skateboard rack or in lockers at the owner s risk. Weapons, Smoking, Tobacco, Drugs and Alcohol Weapons, smoking, tobacco, drugs and alcohol are not permitted anywhere in or around Campus Recreation Facilities. Anyone exhibiting signs of being under the influence of a controlled substance will be denied entry or asked to vacate the facility. Food and Drink Policy Food and beverages are restricted to specific areas. Glass containers are not permitted. Chewing gum is prohibited in all activity areas. Technology/Media Use Policy Personal headsets are welcome, but the use of radios/portable stereos or amplified sound in not permitted in any Campus Recreation facility without Prior approval. If disruptive behavior is noticed or reported, the participant will be asked to refrain from use of the device. The use of mobile technology at any time for photo or video purposes is strictly prohibited unless approved in advance. Violators of the policy may be asked to leave the premises and may face further disciplinary actions. Campus Recreation Professional Staff must approve any photography and videotaping access in Campus Recreation facilities prior to any photography and videotaping. This includes personal, academic, architectural and constructional access. Technology/media use is not permitted in locker rooms.
8 USFSP University Advancement Department and Campus Recreation Professional Staff must approve any Media or Commercial access. Emergency/Weather/Early Closings Policy If the University is closed for the entire day, Campus Recreation facilities will be closed for the entire day. If the University has a delayed opening, Campus Recreation facilities will have a delayed opening or will be closed for the entire day. If the University has an early closing, Campus Recreation facilities will close early. If the University remains open but the weather becomes inclement and/or problematic, Campus Recreation facilities may close early. When instructed by a Campus Recreation staff member, participants must stop participation within Campus Recreation facilities during a University Emergency (power outage, act of terror, etc) For extended power outages, Campus Recreation facilities may be temporarily closed. Determining when to reopen the facility is decided by Campus Recreation. Specific areas of Campus Recreation facilities may be closed and/or restricted due to a special event, scheduled cleaning, maintenance, or unforeseen circumstances. ADA Compliance Participants requiring accommodations may contact Campus Recreation Staff at least 24 hours in advance to request accommodations. Pet Policy Pets are prohibited in all Campus Recreation facilities. Posting Policy All non-campus Recreation postings must first be approved through the Student Life and Engagement office. Once approval is received from Student Life and Engagement, then postings must be approved by a Campus Recreation. Refund Policy Purchase of Campus Recreation memberships, programs and services are non-refundable. Fitness Center Policy Assumption of Risk (Update) Serious risks are inherent while participating in the Fitness Center; These may include but are not limited to: muscle cramps, nausea, fainting, abnormal blood pressure, chest discomfort, broken bones and even death.. General Policy Non-USF student participants must be 17 years of age or older to access the Fitness Center. Cardiovascular machine use is limited to 30 minutes. Please be respectful of others and abide by the time limit when the facility is busy. Equipment must be wiped down after each use with provided wipes/towels. All equipment must be used in the manner for which it is designed. Standing on weight benches, hanging upside down from equipment, using hand held weights with cardiovascular equipment, walking/running backwards or sideways on treadmills and having more than one person using a machine is prohibited. Individuals are responsible for checking equipment prior to each use. Broken or damaged equipment and/or equipment malfunctions should be reported to the Campus Recreation Staff immediately. All cardiovascular and strength equipment must remain where placed in the room and should not be moved or relocated. All free weight equipment must remain in the free weight area and not moved to other areas of the facility. Weights must be lifted in a controlled manner. Intentionally slamming or dropping weights is prohibited. Dumbbells, barbells, and weight plates must be re-racked after use. Collars must be used with all bars in the free weight area.
9 The use of chalk is prohibited. The use of altitude training masks or any device that restricts one s breathing is prohibited. Personal training other than that which is scheduled through Campus Recreation is prohibited. Personal belongings must be kept in a locker or cubby where available. Bags are not permitted in the workout areas. Report all injuries to the Campus Recreation Staff immediately. Water and other sports drinks must be in an enclosed, unbreakable container. Spitting is prohibited. Throwing or dropping items from one level to another is prohibited. Fitness Center Attire Policy For the comfort of our patrons and to create a welcoming, inclusive and safe environment, shirts, shorts and shoes are required throughout the facility. Shirts must cover, at a minimum, your sides/torso and midriff. Sports bras must be covered by a shirt at all times. Due to increased risk of injury, it is recommended that jewelry be removed prior to participating in any activities or before utilizing any equipment in the fitness areas. Jeans or other pants/shorts with rivets are not allowed on any fitness equipment. Specific examples of appropriate and inappropriate clothing choices include: Shirts Shirts must be worn in all activity areas with the exception of the locker rooms. Shirts must fully cover the sides/torso and midriff. Below are examples of appropriate and inappropriate shirts. Appropriate Inappropriate Short and long sleeved t-shirts, tank tops, and sleeveless shirts Shorts Shorts must be worn in all activity areas. Appropriate Sports bras, short tank tops and shirts cut with large arm holes Inappropriate Shorts that expose the legs while still fully covering the buttocks, genitals and pubic region Shorts that do not fully cover the buttocks, genitals, and pubic region Footwear Non-marking shoes are required on all wood/tile floors (i.e. group fitness studios). Sandals, clogs, and other open shoes are not permitted in the cardiovascular and strength areas. Minimalist shoes (i.e. Five Finger shoes and other similar shoes) are permitted to be worn throughout the Fitness Center. Patrons choosing to wear Minimalist shoes while using the Fitness Center do so at their own risk. Campus Recreation staff reserves the right to determine if footwear is appropriate for use. Athletic or sport specific shoes must be worn in all activity areas. An exception is allowed for users participating in specific facilitated Group Fitness classes and those in locker rooms. Appropriate Inappropriate Closed toed and closed heeled athletic or sport/activity specific shoes that have non-marking soles (minimalist shoes that meet this criteria are allowed) Sandals, high-heeled shoes, flip-flops, spikes, cleats, boots, clogs, crocs and footwear that is muddy or dirty.
10 Fitness Center Studio Policies Campus Recreation prioritizes scheduled activities in the Studios. For safety reasons, Group Fitness classes will be limited based on space and availability of equipment. Arrive at least 10 minutes prior to the start of class to check in and warm up. A valid USF issued ID or USFSP Campus Recreation membership card is required to check-in for the class. Please follow the instructor s routine and keep conversation to a minimum for your safety and the safety of others. For safety reasons, participants are not allowed to enter a class once the class has started. Please refrain from entering the classroom before the current class has finished. Athletic attire is required. Athletic shoes are required unless participating in specific Group Fitness classes. Equipment must remain in studios and be returned to proper location after use. Personal belongings must only be stored in designated storage areas or lockers. Beverages must be in an enclosed, and unbreakable containers. Cell phones must be turned off before entering the studio. The Group Fitness schedule is subject to change based on attendance. At a minimum two (2) participants are needed for a class to run. Haney Landing Sailing Center Policy Assumption of Risk Serious risks are inherent while canoeing, kayaking, paddle boarding, sailing, fishing, power boating and utilizing tow sport services; These may include but are not limited to: Drowning, Alligator or shark attacks, poisonous bite or stings, and death. Watercraft Policy A valid USF issued ID or USFSP Campus Recreation membership card is required to check out watercraft. A US Coast Guard approved life jacket (PFD) must be on and buckled. A watercraft may only dock at the dock it is launched. The USF issued ID or USFSP Campus Recreation membership card holder who is checking out the watercraft must remain with the watercraft. Watercraft must be returned to the dock when instructed to do so by Campus Recreation Staff. Boat use is restricted to 60 minutes when there is a wait. Boats must be returned 30 minutes prior to the Haney Landing Sailing Center s closing time. Two kayaks, two stand up paddleboards (SUP), or two canoes may be checked out with one USF issued ID or USFSP Campus Recreation membership card. USF issued ID or USFSP Campus Recreation membership card holders who have completed the requirements may check out/use sail boats, stand up paddle boards, and wake/ski services. Obey state and local boating regulations. Feeding, harassing, removing or creating undue stress to wildlife is prohibited. Fishing without a valid State of Florida license is prohibited. Flying Junior Sailboats must be sailed by two individuals at all times. J24 Sailboats must be sailed with a minimum of two individuals and a maximum of six individuals. Watercraft must be operated within known limits of experience, area, time and capacity. Rinse all equipment and return to proper storage area as instructed by Campus Recreation Staff. Dock Policy Private gas-powered watercraft are prohibited. Fishing from the dock is prohibited. Swimming from the dock is prohibited. Guests
11 A USF issued ID or USFSP Campus Recreation membership card holder may bring up to 3 guests. Weather Policy If wind speeds are a sustained 15 knots or greater, participants will not be able to check out watercraft. If wind speeds are a sustained 15 knots or greater, participants will be required to return to the Boathouse. Outdoor Adventure Program Policy Assumption of Risk Serious risks are inherent while canoeing, kayaking, paddle boarding, sailing, fishing, power boating, camping, and utilizing tow sport services. These may include but are not limited to: drowning, alligator or shark attacks, poisonous bite or stings, and death. Adventure Trip Leaders are not responsible for personal injury or damage/loss of personal property. Registration Policy If a trip is cancelled due to weather or equipment failure, registered participants will receive a credit to their Fusion account that may be used towards any service provided by Campus Recreation. If a participant cancels and at least 24 hour notice is given, participants registration fee will be credited into their Fusion account that may be used towards any service provided by Campus Recreation. If a participant cancels within 24 hours of a trip, they will not receive a credit to their Fusion account. If a registered participant is a no call, no show, their registration fee will not be credited to their Fusion account. If a participant cancels within 24 hours or is a no call, no show for Open Wakeboarding Trips or Sunset Sails, they will be charged a $20 cancellation fee. If the fee is not paid within 1 month of the participant being notified, the participant s Fusion account will be suspended until they are paid in full. If the fee is still not paid in full by the end of the semester, Campus Recreation holds the right to have a hold placed on the student s Oasis account. Aquatic Center Policy Assumption of Risk Serious risks are inherent while swimming and utilizing the aquatic facility; These may include but are not limited to: Drowning, sun exposure, poisonous bite or stings, and death. General Policy Running or horseplay on the pool deck is prohibited. Diving between the north end of the pool and the eight (8) foot marker is prohibited. Children requiring diapers or in the process of potty training must utilize rubberized pants over diapers or a swimming diaper is required. Non-Coast Guard approved personal flotation devices are prohibited. Hanging or holding onto lap lane dividers is prohibited. Paint, chalk, tape or other adhesive materials placed on the pool deck surface is prohibited. Spitting is prohibited. Glass containers are prohibited. Red liquids are prohibited. Breath Holding Policy Prolonged breath holding is prohibited. Prolonged underwater swimming is prohibited. Lap Swimming Policy Swimmers are required to follow the circle swim pattern. The customary traffic pattern is to swim in a counterclockwise circle in the lane. It is the responsibility of the swimmer entering the lane to be sure that all other swimmers in that lane are aware of their presence. Always swim complete laps of the pool. Stopping in the middle of the lane is prohibited.
12 Outdoor Court Policy Assumption of Risk Serious risks are inherent while utilizing the outdoor courts; These may include but are not limited to: Sprains, strains, breaks, dislocations, concussions, sun exposure, poisonous bites or stings, and death. General Policy The primary use of the USFSP Outdoor Basketball and Volleyball Courts is to provide USFSP students, faculty and staff a location for drop-in play. Use of court is on a first come first served basis. USFSP Campus Recreation scheduled programs have priority over open recreation. Any activity that may cause damage to the facility surface, goals or fences is prohibited. This may include but are not limited to: Roller Hockey, Street Hockey, Field Hockey, Skateboarding, Roller Skating, Roller Blading, Concerts, Remote control devices, Model rockets, Fire or any open flame. Hanging from rims, nets or goal supports is prohibited. Vehicles are not permitted on the court surface except for maintenance or emergency needs. Spitting is prohibited Paint, chalk, tape or other adhesive materials placed on the court surface is prohibited. Attaching items to fence, light poles, nets or goals is prohibited. Recreation Field Policy Assumption of Risk Serious risks are inherent while participating at the Recreation Field; These may include but are not limited to: sprains, strains, breaks, dislocations, concussions, sun exposure, poisonous bites or stings, and death. General Policy Climbing any perimeter fence constitutes breaking and entering. Any activity that may cause damage to the facility surface, goals or fences is prohibited This may include but are not limited to: field hockey, rugby, golf, archery, tug-o-war, concerts, remote control devices, model rockets, fire or any open flame. Tents/canopies secured with stakes are prohibited. Do not throw, hit, or kick balls against fences. Bicycles are not permitted to be ridden in the facility nor attached to fences/other objects. Field lights are to be operated by Campus Recreation staff only. Fields will be lined by Campus Recreation staff only. Hanging/climbing nets or goal supports is prohibited. Vehicles are not permitted on the field surface except for maintenance or emergency needs. Glass containers are prohibited on the field surface. Paint, chalk, tape or other adhesive materials placed on the field surface is prohibited. Attaching items to fence, light poles, nets or goals is prohibited. Portable goals are only to be moved by Campus Recreation Staff and must be returned to their designated location after each use. Reservation Policies Individuals/Groups reserving facility space for activities are responsible for the conduct and actions of
13 those associated with and participating in the event. This includes casual spectators as well as followers and team members/opponents. Any damage to the facility and/or equipment or violations of policies is the responsibility of the individual/groups reserving the space and must be reported immediately. The party is also responsible for the charges associated with these damages.
